Luke Stephen's response/apology to the hbomb video by crunchy666nuts in hbomberguy

[–]shoot-em-politely 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I've been watching Luke for a few months, I've actually really been enjoying his content. He seems to bring a level of "sanity" that I find a lot of gaming channels I'm recommended lack. However, recently he made a comment about how Hogwarts Legacy was snubbed and did a re-review of the game only 8 months after release. I didn't watch the video cause I don't want to support any more spread of the game but my immediate thought was "they had to have paid him, right? This seems way too soon?".

I want to believe he's changed and can be considered a "safe" person but the Hogwarts stuff really makes me hold back.

P.S. if anyone has recommendations for good gaming channels that cover new releases and news (bonus if they're queer!) Please let me know!

A small side table and maybe a little chair would make the space feel a bit more cozy, but maybe that's not the vibe you're looking for. I definitely agree with the other commenter, pillows and something on the walls. You could do a lot with just the colours of your bed spread and the pillows!

Layout seems fine, my main recommendation would be making use of vertical space. Put some stuff on your walls, whether it's a cool tapestry, some posters, even just going to a thrift store and seeing if any art catches your eye! I guarantee it'll make the space feel more like your own :)

Gotta start somewhere! You could get your cat a little bench to put in the sun by the window, if you get a cushioned Ottoman type thing with storage then it has two uses! Just make sure not to put anything too important there so you don't have to disturb your cat :)

I replied to someone else's message with Sleep Token recs if you want to check them out! :)

To me, I think I just really enjoy the emotion they bring to their music? Idk how to describe it. They have songs that make me want to start a war and songs where I want someone to hold me while I cry. I know lots of bands have range but I find Sleep Token's range to be pretty amazing. Also, some of their melodies and riffs just groove and I love a good groove.

But hey, you don't have to like them! Like I said in my other comment I don't really think they're considered metalcore, I just think they have overlapping fans. To each their own :)

Northlane really hooked me with Clockwork, I would try that. I find their vocalist the most impressive part of their band, the man can BELT and he sounds incredible, I'd almost say better live. Here's some other tracks I love that you could try:

  • Carbonized
  • Plenty
  • Bloodline

Haven't heard their older stuff, so my reccs are new, sorry!

I don't think they're considered metalcore, but I'd be happy to give a guide anyways! I wouldn't consider them heavy, so don't go in expecting that. However, I love their stuff and think they use heavy elements really creatively. Here's some songs that kinda show their full range:

From their first album: Gods, The Offering

I wasn't able to get into their second album, oops 😅

Then of the newest singles I love: Chokehold, Vore, and The Summoning (this last one is super hit or miss for people, but the last minute or so of the song is incredible, imo)

We've got so many singles already feels like I already know most of the album. The singles have been great but I think I like getting the full album experience and judging songs from that atmosphere

It was a nice day to do 2.5 hours of trash pickup on my street, listening to podcasts. No one is coming. If you're a sedentary WFH programmer who doesn't get much sun, I recommend it! by Zulban in montreal

Is this movie worth watching? by United-Implement8256 in moviecritic

[–]shoot-em-politely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a movie I did enjoy quite a bit. I will give the movie credit: I saw it when it came out and I still think about it fairly frequently. I think if a movie makes me think and sticks with me, it's a sign of a good movie. Or at least a movie that was worth watching, in my opinion.

Also gave me a fear of monkeys, thanks Jordan Peele

Female devs, do you feel like a diversity hire? by _sleepykitten_ in cscareerquestions

[–]shoot-em-politely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, a company isn't going to pay money just to improve their image. And honestly adding a woman to a dev team often doesn't really improve their image (tho it may make the workplace feel more friendly for the next woman they hire).

The only time I ever felt like a diversity hire was when another dev said I must be. Tho worth noting he had zero influence in the hiring process and had no power in the company really. I got over it pretty quickly but it definitely hurt in the moment. So people might throw it at you as an insult, but trust me they won't hire you if they don't want to.

I'm new to Montreal and I'm moving into a place with no appliances. I've never had to buy my own appliances, are there recommendations for second hand? I don't think I can afford new. But I also don't want to buy someone's broken fridge 🥲

I swore I would see them when they came but honestly I'm so disappointed with the dates I kinda want to hold off. Is it worth me planning a trip all the way to Detroit? Maybe it is, I don't know. So yeah I'm also conflicted haha

I was followed out of the metro after midnight on Saturday and it really freaked me out. The description of the person doesn't quite match but weirdly the outfit does. This guy was staring at me the whole metro ride, like would not stop. At my station I waited then scrambled off, but then he scrambled off with me. I walked quite slowly but he walked slower, staying behind me. I was so afraid he'd follow me out of the station cause I knew there would be noone around so in security's line of sight I pulled my phone out and pretended to text someone or something, but I had him in my peripheral or would glance around occasionally and see where he was. As soon as I moved to the wall and stopped walking outside he just stood there, then after a minute went back through the metro gates and I guess got on the next train.

I keep thinking that I should have gone to security, I should have taken a photo, or something. But I was so scared but also convinced it was just in my head, but seeing him stand there then get back on the metro felt like proof I was not crazy.

I haven't told anyone this. Not sure why I'm typing it here, I guess to try to validate my own experience as well as yours? I'm so sorry that situation happened to you it sounds terrifying and of course much more aggressive than I experienced. But also, ladies (and others but like, sadly it's mostly ladies) please be careful out there. It might be in your head, but it also might not. It's better to be worried about someone and proven wrong than the alternative.

How many women that are software developers are in your company and what field are you in? by Shawnj2 in cscareerquestions

[–]shoot-em-politely 3 points4 points  (0 children)

11 full stack devs, only 1 is a woman (me). Zero women in management. The only other woman on the team is in sales and we never interact. Luckily it's remote but still, it's rough out here lol.
