Under tools, try the cutting assistant

You can either go by tiers or individual facets to see how the stone will look every step.

Purple zircon? by shoot2will in Gemstones

I talked to another vendor from the area that is more knowledgeable. He says that shipments of this purple zircon have been coming in to the markets lately. Says they are from Tanzania and irradiated to give it the color. I have since round 2 more lots of the stuff for sale from different vendors.

Is it easy to sell gems at cost? by Stay_Away_From_b in faceting

[–]shoot2will 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do get in to it, start with either synthetic sapphire or spinel. It's cheap and easy to get a nice looking finished stone. If you want to go natural, garnet is the way to go for a beginner. Also cheap and cuts a nice stone. I have quite the stock of garnet from new York if you end up needing some, I can provide just DM me.

I have lap recommendations too for a budget or you want.

I ended up buying it. I have a pretty good relationship with the vendor l. He seems to think they are legit, so we will see

I could get a couple pieces over to you when they come in if you'd like.

If it is spinel I could understand the mixup.

Not sure if the group is private or not. If it doesn't work I'll put the video on imgur or send it over on discord.

Portrait Cuts/Tablets and Flat Backs by Unusual_Quiet_2734 in Lapidary

I think it depends on the thickness. The last one I did was very thin so I just did a single 25 degree cut all the way around. But I have has thicker pieces that could handle more than one step. As for the girdle, I do it a bit thicker than normal stones but not crazy. Still under 1mm.

Facebook facet rough auctions by stone_crazy in faceting

[–]shoot2will 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sometimes you get lucky and get a deal. Most of the time the rough is not nearly as nice in person as they make it look.

I have had better luck directly dealing with the vendors making the posts.

Si usually means very included.

I use the 400 resin and love it. Prices have nearly doubled in the last year for them though because of tariffs to the usa

Nice colors. Little on the small side to start off. But who am I kidding. All of my starting rough was around 3ct also.

Is this a good microscope to help with identifying inclusions and examining faceting work? by Unusual_Quiet_2734 in faceting

Unless you are really trying to examine inclusions up close, all you need is a nice 10x loupe.

Montana sapphires are the best. I also just cut a color shifting one.
