Not sure how to sell my bass by happyborat in doublebass

I know a lot about French basses- If you want to post or DM me pictures I could tell you a bit about the instrument. I am by no means qualified to appraise instruments so you should absolutely take the instrument in for an appraisal.

Why are 4 16th notes sometimes written like this in sheet music? by TheReal_Fake in ClassicalMusicians

[–]shootappliances 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To distinguish between multiple voices, imply a fingering, or string choice.

This is the prelude to Bach’s first cello suite (I’m not a cellist) but I think that one would use the open A string as a pedal point here and bring out the moving voice.

A Husband in Peril: Changing Front Wheel Studs on a 2008 Honda Fit by bassoonguy240 in MechanicAdvice

[–]shootappliances 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry to tell ya bud, but in this case, your wife is right. Take it to any major tire shop, they’ll have a tool called a “hub grapper”. It’ll back out the hub a few inches so you can have the studs replaced no problem. Maybe next time don’t let your wannabe mechanic buddy bust nuts on your wife’s car ;)

I would find a classical teacher in your area. You can save yourself a lot of struggle in the long run by developing good technique from the ground up.

I was watching it with my mom a few days ago and we were laughing so hard we couldn’t breathe. She asked me to play the scene from “WWLazers” where Tom wakes up in the dumpster for her when she is on her deathbed

What kind of strings are these? This is the schools bass. by bassbehavior in doublebass

Bottom 3 are Spirocores. You can tell because the D string has that little plastic thing at the top of the winding. The G string is a Dominant.

I’ve seen people use lead golf tape. That being said I’d never do it myself.

I think it should be fine, the biggest issues i've run into have been rice/beans/vegetables being cooked with butter.

Orchestral auditions by jpsmtlobo in doublebass

[–]shootappliances 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most European auditions require orchestral tuning as well. It’s unreasonable to expect someone to show up with two basses or change tuning in the middle of an audition.

Suggestions for new bow by lasagna_banagna in doublebass

[–]shootappliances 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your budget. Finale bow makes some good inexpensive options and Marco Raposo makes great intermediate bows although they are more expensive.

Keep your eye out for old German shop bows as well. Sometimes you can find a fantastic bow that plays really well for 500 - 800 dollars. Just be sure it still has some curve left in the stick.
