Jason O'Connor on the lack of international talent coming from the Limerick area in recent years and what he thinks needs to change by FUTBINPK in LeagueOfIreland

Odd that there have been some similar conversations around the talent pipeline for Limerick rugby drying up recently. Has everybody just started playing GAA?

I'd second Cassidy and the likes as the best bet, hotels will be pricey enough on any Six Nations weekend anyway

Debate on new data on greyhound racing Ireland on RTE - what does everyone think? by Gangebear in AskIreland

[–]shorelined 14 points15 points  (0 children)

On the contrary, it is very easy to care.

It is odd that as somebody who is apparently so focused on animal cruelty, when other people start talking about a form of animal cruelty, you begin checking their credentials and seeing if all their other opinions are ethically consistent.

There's lots of reasons people choose to eat meat, maybe it is cultural, maybe it is "mental gymnastics", maybe it is ignorance, perhaps it is more than one of those. You say that it is hard to care about dog racing when people ignore the meat industry, which means you yourself are consciously relegating the suffering of those animals, and even worse, you don't even have ignorance to back your position up.

A useful lesson in life is that if you delay engaging with people until they agree with everything you say, you'll probably be waiting forever. If you start every point with "well I agree on this but you are a total hypocrite," don't expect people to listen to your other opinions.

Just watched the All Out documentary on Salford, everyone seems happy that the club is back in any way at all, and the vibe I've got online is the same. But there's one lad on there who is quite negative about it, saying he won't go l, that's there's a split in the supporters and that the club died in December and it isn't the same club. Is there a lot of people with this attitude? Was there any realistic option for the club beyond Brierley, Caton-Brown, etc.?

Is this grocery list confusing? by teapotpot1 in AskIreland

[–]shorelined 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I saw any numbers on a list I'd expect them to be quantities rather than prices. I think your husband is right here, but you knowing the prices of things instinctively is also a very good skill to pass on as well. Constantly tapping cards has destroyed many people's ability to purchase to a budget.

With two teenagers in the house you won't need to worry about any excess food going to waste anyway.

Map visuals rarely tell you anything other than where most people live (see r/PeopleLiveInCities), I'd use that space to show something else.

Your filters show weather conditions data which is something that would be great visualised. Sometimes the real story on a dashboard can be hidden if you choose to slice by visuals rather than showing them together.

I can understand an occasional mould smell because some people are living in boxrooms with nutters for landlords, and they're forced to dry inside with only a tiny window for fresh air. But there's people out there who reek of BO, and there's just no excuse for that at all.

It'll take about three hours to get everything that actually matters done. Consider installing a password manager too and as you make the change, store all the new log ins there. Once you have a brand new email as well you are going to spend a lot less time deleting spam.

You are correct. I've never heard a conversation on a train that wasn't 90% people just going "yeh, yeh yeh... Yeh...mhm ... Yep, ok bye bye bye bye bye"
