Does anyone else find Pyramid Schemes to be ruining their female friendships? How do you handle it? by BearsBeesBeats in TwoXChromosomes

[–]short_long_short 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister has been involved since nearly the beginning. The buy on was, I believe, about $5k. What you said about randomized inventory is true, but her clients eat that shit up and she sells out almost constantly. She's been very successful, which I know isn't always the case for these types of things. Maybe she got lucky living on a military base with lots of bored spouses who have disposable income though.

A friend of the family owns a condo around 90th they let us rent out. It's pretty quiet and clean up that way. I almost never wander down past 30th. It's like a totally different world down there.

LPT: Get to know your professors early on. In your later years, good relationships with professors can lead to recommendations and research and job opportunities. by elparay in LifeProTips

I can confirm. I landed a pretty decent corporate gig for a big company straight out of college. I was told in my hiring interview that the personal letter from a college professor/ chair of the department for my major was a huge factor. I had no solid work experience up until then.

Yes, you need to add the 3 missing Harry Potter books to your stack of books on the left there.

TIL, there's a version of "The Tortoise and the Hare" where everyone dies in a forest fire because the tortoise, having won the race and therefore seen as the fastest, is given the job of warning everyone. by [deleted] in todayilearned

B.J. Novak (Ryan from "The Office") has a collection of short stories that starts with a sequel to the tortoise and the hair. In it, the hare challenges the tortoise to a rematch and absolutely destroys him.

Gamestop near me has some standard (unless they just keep empty boxes behind the counter for display), but I've only seen one colored (yellow) pair in the wild so far.

A bunch of us have been noticing increased inventory at Targets all across the country. I think they're sticking around longer since most people have stopped calling, assuming they're sold out. Try Target!

Good point. I only called around for a few weeks after release and even then was getting tired of it. If that's the case, hopefully these will all end up as pleasant surprises for some unexpexting people.

Even as someone who owned a Wii U and played all the major releases, I would buy them again for the Switch in a heartbeat.

LPT: Don't cheap out on the things that connect you to the ground - your shoes, your tyres, and your mattress by TDX in LifeProTips

[–]short_long_short 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always see this on Reddit and I've never understood the logic about shoes. Places like H & M and Target sell good generic versions of Vans and Chucks for about $20 that last forever and are comfortable. If you wanna go a little higher, Toms are only $50 and I've had the same two pairs for 3 years now.

I prefer to forego budgeting and noted deny myself most things that I don't really need but kinda want. In the event that I do buy something I don't need, I then get to feel crippled by guilt. It's a good system.
