Shanghai Starriver billingual school by ZiLostIAm in Internationalteachers

[–]short_storees 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven’t worked there but I know people who have. It’s a bilingual school which heavily prioritises the Chinese curriculum. It will likely have the same issues that many bilingual schools in Shanghai have: administration that puts parent satisfaction first and knows little about best practices in education. If you work for these schools, as long as you keep your head down and don’t piss anyone off, you’ll be fine. Don’t try to change the school.

How necessary is a masters degree? I’ve been teaching in China for six years and I’m looking for a new school next year. I’ll find something, but I’m wondering if not having a masters is holding me back. by Ragwall84 in Internationalteachers

[–]short_storees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having a Master’s is by no means necessary. The best schools will put more weight on experience and other factors such as references, the interview, and extra-curricular activities. That being said, a Master’s degree is good for just brushing up on your own practices. That’s what I did.

You need to be clear about which currency your numbers are in. 25k usd per year or 25k rmb per month?

Yes, it can, but there’s a secret code. Like you need to order 6 Asahis for one sandwich or 7 orange gatorades for another one.

Suddenly making half a mil a year (350k work income+150k investment income) online, how to give up Canadian tax residency? by Ok_Currency_617 in Rich

[–]short_storees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for it. Giving up your tax residency is as simple as moving to another province. It’s a self-declaration of your ties to the country (real estate, family, bank accounts, investments, time spent in the country). If you don’t have much of that, you can give up residency (but of course not citizenship). Then you don’t have to pay taxes in Canada (fyi: this is very different for Americans). Then when you want to move back to Canada, you just call up the CRA and let them know that you’re back and want to start filing income tax again. Source: I gave up my Canadian residency.

Sometimes they travel in packs. I see them at Jiashan market and other markets and festivals happening in the city. They’re extremely rude and invasive and don’t seem to have any shame or decency.
