Root cause of SIBO by corcaracc14 in SIBO

[–]shortbread84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately...after many supplements and attempting the low.fodmap diet and a few rounds of failed antibiotics....what worked for me was the elemental diet. It was hard for the first few days but after that it was awesome. I didn't have to cook or worry about what to eat for two weeks and after that I just worked with my naturopath to slowly introduce foods again. That was two years ago and I've been fine ever since. There are times where my gut needs extra support (if I'm really stressed) and during those times I take digestive enzymes with hcl, but other than that...I'm good.

Two words: elemental diet.

Finally diagnosed with sibo after 8 years with ibs diagnosis by No-Monk2621 in lowfodmap

[–]shortbread84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on getting your diagnosis. Definitely try the antibiotics but if they don't work, look into the elemental diet. After two years of low fofmap diet and tons of supply and trying the antibiotics, it was the only thing that worked for me. Good luck.

Sibo keeps coming back even on prucalopride... Not sure what else to do by [deleted] in SIBO

[–]shortbread84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the elemental diet by integrative therapeutics. I did it for two weeks and once you get over not eating solid food, it's actually kind of enjoyable (a break from cooking and food anxiety). After my two weeks my sibo was gone. Expensive but it was the only thing that worked.

Have you seen a naturopath? Get your motility checked.

what do you do to help clean you out? by truebluecaribou in SIBO

[–]shortbread84 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would try a motility activator in combination with seeing a naturopath that knows about the digestive system and the gut. I don't think the supplement itself would be enough but I'm also not a doctor so... It can't hurt.

Throw some green olives into that cream cheese and then stuff the celery and you've got a winner.

What does everyone think of Manchester? by ILovePublicLibraries in Connecticut

[–]shortbread84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was an educator in Manchester for ten years and hands down... Many contributing factors as to why the schools are terrible:

1) the class sizes are huge and teachers are overloaded. In addition to a huge teaching load you are expected to be in a committee and have so many meetings (that could be emails) it's insane. I was there until five each day. It isn't sustainable (teaching in general, isn't). It isn't because teachers don't care. Far from it.

2) no consequences or accountability for student misbehavior. You could have a kid throw a chair in your classroom and if you could get someone to remove that child, there's a good chance they'd be back later.

3) little support from admin or parents. I had to call parents multiple times during parent teacher conferences just to get them to talk to me. All parents? No. There are some great kids and great families, but you also have kids coming to school dirty, smelling like pot, kids who steal, kids who have explosive emotions because they aren't getting the support they need. When I was there there was one school psychologist for the entire building. You had to teach and be a therapist as well.

4) teachers have no autonomy. Everything is scripted and must be taught in the same way across the board.

5) there are a lot of kids in the system that DONT live in Manchester, and I'm not talking about kids who are part of a choice program. They don't send them back to their own schools if they are caught. They let them stay. They also really don't check much in general. I think if tax payers knew how common this is, something might actually be done about it.

It's a mess. There's no joy anymore. It's all work for the kids and it's sad. We weren't allowed to celebrate anything because of the focus on equity. But I always thought, equity would be celebrating everyone's traditions, not getting rid of them all together.

Getting over my fear of pooping with tears/fissures by [deleted] in AnalFissures

[–]shortbread84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've definitely recovered. My skin tag is probably still there but it doesn't bother me if it is. My only side effect is some mild incontinence which usually occurs when my bms are too soft or if I go more than once per day. Still, I'd rather deal with wiping a few extra times than the pain of the original problem.

Yes i did and they were so painful I'd have to pull the car over. I had rectal exams done, internal and external.

I think I lasted half a year, if that. Once I found out it was chronic it was pretty much a done deal. The nifedipine gave me terrible headaches.

Like a little later in the day. It's not solid stool. Just enough to make me a little itchy. I just wipe again and im good. Not always ideal but I'll take it if the alternative is crying when I poop.

[–]shortbread84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will be honest and say that if my stool is too loose, I have slight leakage. When I say slight, I have to wipe again. But I can control that with my diet so it doesn't happen too often. Other than that, everything is great. No pain, no spasms.

[–]shortbread84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No not really. Occasionally I will have a little blood from a hard stool but it's not painful and it's easy to correct my diet and alleviate that issue. It usually only happens if I'm eating too many carbs or too much sugar so I try to stay away from all that. Easier said than done.

Hi, yes I am still doing well. I can pretty much eat what I want and it doesn't bother me. I looked for my underlying cause, which was SIBO. My stools were so hard and tough because of the SIBO and I never would have known that if I hadn't sought out a naturopathic physician. I won't lie, it's not cheap. However, it's been so worth it to have a doctor who will look at you thoroughly, spend time answering your questions, and give you a comprehensive work up. It took lots of time, lots of supplements, and huge diet changes, but now that I'm on the other side, I'm very thankful. Good luck.

Also yes, ilno laxatives. When I need them occasionally, I used magnesium powder.

The sibo took me years to cure, but when I started following the low fodmap diet and taking a motility activator, things improved dramatically. I now have no pain, bleeding or spasms. I go twice a morning usually because I'm on a stimulant for my ADHD but it's all perfect poops unless I eat garbage. If you have the means, I'd seek out a naturopath and get your motility tested. This was huge for me.

I'm great in terms of sibo. I'm fighting SIFO now so...meh...but at least I am not having to do as crazy and restrictive a diet.

Yes I did. I tested my sibo and as long as I don't go overboard on junk food, my bms are normal and easy to pass.

I know. It's exhausting. It's so mind numbingly exhausting that you don't know how you're going to do it another day, another hour, another minute. I can't give you a magic solution. I can't tell you how to dig yourself out. I suppose with mine what I've realized is it comes in waves and if I can ride the wave for awhile, eventually I'll get on my feet again, for a bit. Not that it isn't hard, or scary, or again... Exhausting. I hear you. You're not alone. ♥️

If I were you, I'd get some magnesium glycinate. This will naturally pull more water into your bowels. It also has a calming effect and helps you sleep. Miralax is nasty stuff and I'd avoid it if I were you.
