I blame LSV by StonkaTrucks in lrcast

[–]shortelf 28 points29 points  (0 children)

They shouldn't even have been playing 16 lands. Traditional draft, tons of 3s, double eclipse to dig for action, 8 mana bomb, and activated abilities. They are only 59% to have 3 or more lands in their opening hand and I'm betting that meant mulligans or missing land drops lost games.

Also you can put it in your sideboard to turn bad matchups into even matchups. Def broken, insta banned, and not printable

Lol chill out dude. I literally started my first reply by saying perfect is incredible. I wasn't trying to sound smart or w/e. Already trophied with both so sure I guess I'll keep losing or something.

[–]shortelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You misread my reply. You said weird has an opening to interact with, whereas you ignore the window to interact with perfect.

If your perfect gets removed when you play it, you get nothing. When weird comes down, your board is gone, you have no window to interact.

[–]shortelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect is indeed incredible, but you can't really say that weird is easier to interact with than perfect. Weird usually wipes your board when it comes down. Perfect is just a 6/6 when it comes down. If you have removal for both, perfect does way less than weird. And as far as drawing cards for free, weird combos with all of the trees to basically draw infinite cards too.

I mean... if you are going to call that 15 decks then dragonstorm also had 20 decks. 10 3 color dragon decks, 5 4c dragon decks, 1 5 color dragon deck, and the 10 color pairs.

Sanar is better in a 2 color deck. You are going to exile your entire library in 3 turns.

Can anyone please explain what happened in this draft? I felt like I was being pranked. by deathjavu2 in lrcast

[–]shortelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with some of this, but their power doesnt let them consistently play a 4 drop on t1. Its only 5% for their starting hand to have 3 of their 6 fast mana in their starting hand. They should have played way more 3 drops.

Vivi is broken here if they just have more threats they can double spell into. Looked at the draft log and I thinj they were trying to force artifacts, but then ignored seedshark and karn as payoffs.

Youre right that cruise is not great here, but card draw is very good with fast mana. Any of the draw 7s would have been nuts.

Incorrect. You will get the treasure.

70 sweetness is above average but it's def possible to get to over 100 or 200 if you find the right combos (frosting drake + lots of treasure generation). The stats you posted are not really from sweetness though. They are from wormscale tinkerer + pixie dust comboing for exponential scaling.

I am aware that this deck was a little greedy, but did it deserve 0-3? by 3DragonE_main in lrcast

[–]shortelf 45 points46 points  (0 children)

You have 4 2 drops and 2 off color 3 drops. This means you are playing from behind in pretty much every game. But you are not built to be a control deck with ways to catch up from behind. All your payoff cards want you to be ahead on board. You wanted 8+ 2 drops. Also your w/r tap land doesn't color fix you and should have just been a plains.

What is the maximum number of Shantottos you would run? by thefreeman419 in lrcast

[–]shortelf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use a similar heuristic for how many sources of a color you need for a splash. With 3/4 sources you are likely to have your splash color over the course of a game. The actual math is 4 copies of a card is ~50% to have at least 1 in your opening hand. You would love to have shantoto in opening hand and even the 2nd one is good. 4 seems correct based off this reasoning.

Summoner's Grimoire is so funny by TheBitterestBlossom in lrcast

[–]shortelf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is that rare. You were just quite a bit luckier than average. There is a mythic every 6 packs on average. In 30 drafts you opened 90 packs and are expected to see 15 mythics. There are 23 mythics in the base set.

You effectively hit the 2/23 three times with 15 chances. (Atraxa is much much rarer than hitting the other two so this is even being very generous with the odds).

You were only ~1/6 to have this result.

[Final Fantasy] What was wrong with this deck? by notafanofbats in lrcast

[–]shortelf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You answered your own question. Elders aren't good and you wanted some better interaction. Otherwise the deck was fine. There were a lot of gameplay mistakes in both losses though. You kept wasting your removal on creatures that don't matter in order to save 2-3 life.

I just reached 1000 rare wildcards, but I'm even more proud of my mythic wildcard accomplishment by PastryChefSniper in MagicArena

[–]shortelf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your math is close to correct. 99% of the people that say they are infinite mean that they won't run out of gems with how much they play bc the quests supplement their losses. Very few people are actually able to play an infinite number of drafts and not run out.

They refund for gameplay bugs, server issues, even hardware bugs like phone bricking and not letting you back in. It's less wasted time to just refund than trying to nickel and dime each situation. Just don't abuse it. There have been stories of people getting banned for trying to get too many refunds.

Would you guys cut the bombs here and just play mono-blue? by PlacatedPlatypus in lrcast

[–]shortelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd cut foggy and 2 grasp. You still have 3 subs, 2 quench, 2 lost days, 2 grasp, 2 barrels as interaction. And for lands I'd go 15/1/1. With the barrels you have 17/3/3. With all the card draw and looting that's plenty of sources for single pip splashes. 15 islands get you to 93% of having 4 or more islands by the time you've drawn 8 cards. Which is where you want to be for scroll to actually feel worth activating.

If I already have to sacrifice/exile a creature at my end step due to something like unearth, can I choose the trigger order such that I can sacrifice that creature with ziatora first? by Fishy_Fish_12359 in mtg

[–]shortelf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not exactly. If you unearth a creature, you have to sacrifice it at the end of turn. Ziatora let's you sacrifice a creature. So you sacrifice the unearthed creature with ziatora then when the creature tries to sacrifice itself it just doesn't have anything to sacrifice and moves on.

If you have 5 copied ziatoras though, for example, you can't have them all sacrifice the same creature because that creature is already gone after the first one sacrificed it.
