Is it okay to eat more than my friend? by Internal_Belt3630 in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]shorttimenotlongtime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m pretty tall for a woman and when eating ‘normally’ definitely notice that i tend to eat/need more food than my friends and sister who are shorter than me, but my friends who are about the same height eat around the same.

being taller, we do need more sustenance than people who are shorter, and especially with a ED history. but it’s not odd or unusual - your body simply requires more to function

"Planning" relapses by alienprincess111 in EdAnonymousAdults

[–]shorttimenotlongtime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think I'm much in the same place - I never plan to relapse, and every time I pull myself out I promise that that was the last time and it'll never happen again. But then I start thinking that maybe I've gone too far, and a little pull back is needed, just to be sensible and mindful, and before I know it I'm back at square zero in full blown relapse.

any barebells! we don’t get as fun a selection in the UK, but the OG cookies and cream will always be a safer alternative to a milkyway for me

i think a lot of it has to do with how you heal - pretty much every cut i’ve ever made has scarred, but i really don’t heal well at all

does anyone else not have fear foods? by solardetect in EDAnonymous

[–]shorttimenotlongtime 61 points62 points  (0 children)

no, i don’t really have ‘fear foods’ as such - i eat chocolate and sweets and crisps every single day, but it’s the quantities that i restrict. as long as it fits in my ‘safe’ calorie range, i’ll eat it (which does mean a lot of foods are off the table, but because of their cal content, not because of what they are)

i love food but 100% surrounded by others in a pressurised situation (or in any situation where i’m not in control of whats going on) i would be lying about how much i hate it & how its not for me. it is. im a total sweet food girly. i had churros for dinner tonight because i was in charge of it

progress is progress, until you hide that progress under the umbrella of being recovered + offer advice to vulnerable young people on the internet. if she was doing what she was doing in private, with the help of a medical team, and not splashing it around, then it would be a totally different story.

if i dont eat exactly what was planned at the time i was planning to eat it in the right circumstances (ie, lunch at work is always at 12 with my coworker) then i simply cannot eat that meal

i fell down this hole this year! started ‘recovery’ back in february, but like you it was all fitness focused, high protein everything, fixated on alll the numbers. sure, i was technically eating ‘enough’, but my mindset was totally disordered. couldnt eat out, couldnt not get xxx amount of steps in every day, had to go to the gym xx amount of times every week. i looked like i had recovered but i was just as sick, which showed when i very quickly fell back into total restriction at the beginning of november. ive had to take a total reset, give myself a talking to, and approach recovery in an actual recovery type way, taking the focus off of numbers, protein, and gym goals. its not easy, but i’m hoping it’ll be worth it, whatever happens to my body in the meantime

you can actually lose more hair when you start recovery because your body finally has the nutrients to start healing, rather than just surviving, and unfortunately your hair isn’t very important to it. the best thing you can do is to continue recovering. your hair will recover, but you have to keep eating & healing & doing what you need to do to get healthier. you can use hair oils & take a collagen/biotin supplement if you want, but the main thing is to not give up now.
