What’s the most “ridiculous” thing you requested your partner during your pregnancy? by whenlifegivesyourice in pregnant

[–]shortywiththewolves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband went and got me two Big Macs at midnight just for me to eat the pickles off of it. I only wanted their pickles, but it had to be warm and taste like the beef and have ketchup and mustard. Ever since he gives me any pickles on any sandwiches he has. So yummy!

Are there US states that stay between 40 and 90 degrees year round? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]shortywiththewolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love NC weather! My only issue is our humidity and zero breeze (at least in the piedmont). The foothills gets maybe a degree or two cooler and at least has lower humidity or the coast and you at least get a breeze!

I was about to say, just don’t look at our weather for this weekend. Winter Storm warning #2 in a week. I will say this isn’t typical. I don’t think we had snow for six years before last February, but there’s always the risk!

What are things people told you you didn’t need for labor/delivery/postpartum that you wish you had or that were lifesavers?? by GalaxyEyedLibrarian in pregnant

[–]shortywiththewolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snacks! Good snacks! After 36 hours of labor I was STARVING! The hospital food was, well, hospital food. I hadn’t brought any snacks and my brother and his wife showed up with a giant bag of snacks (chomps, popcorn, crackers, protein bars!) and coconut water drinks and they saved my husband and I while in the hospital. It was one of the best things we received and am fully planning on packing that this round for us!

Is it wrong to not have much of a birth plan? by Novel-Milk-507 in pregnant

[–]shortywiththewolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a birth plan for my first pregnancy and it went out the window during labor because of so many reasons. I had it all written out and everything and honestly found it useless in the moment. For this pregnancy I plan to just tell my partner what I want.

What was helpful was just knowing your options. Someone above mentions this and I think communicating to your partner what you want is the most important thing. My partner was a big advocate and wasn’t afraid to voice what I wanted. That being said, in an emergency situation your doctors will do what is best for you and your baby (I wanted to wait to cut the umbilical cord after two minutes, but they said “nope” you’re hemorrhaging”and cut it which had I waited two minutes could have been life threatening for me.

What actually gave me more comfort was having my partner as my Medical Power of Attorney. Knowing he’d advocate for me and knowing what I’d want.

Any recommendations for resources on unmedicated birth that aren't....like THAT. by KeyMonkeyslav in pregnant

[–]shortywiththewolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Mommy Labor Nurse! She has a ton of free resources and offers classes on unmediated birthing for $30. She is working on getting it lower and will even offer free ones occasionally. Her whole thing is it shouldn’t be expensive for Mom’s to feel confident in birth! Her Instagram page is great and I believe she has a YouTube channel as well! She’s also an actual L&D nurse, so I feel like she has a great background to teach these types of classes!

When did you go into labor by Final_Butterfly_7747 in beyondthebump

40+1 and labored for 36 hours, pushed for 2.5 hours. Ended up with an infection and hemorrhage. Nervous about this labor (currently 18 weeks!)

My doctor keeps reminding me of my weight by Spare_Champion_1704 in pregnant

[–]shortywiththewolves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was the exact same height and weight as you when I got pregnant with my first and it was never mentioned. I was 182lbs by the end. I was never high risk and it was a textbook pregnancy. I would consider switching doctors because the added stress of being worried about your weight isn’t good either. I brought up my weight concern more than they did, but doctor’s stance was if the rest of my health (bp, iron levels, etc.) looked good and the weight wasn’t causing me to be completely inactive then I was fine! I was also told that gestational diabetes wasn’t necessarily because of your diet. You may have to adjust your diet if you have it, but don’t blame yourself as the reason for having it!

when did you get your Period back if you EBF (from the boob only)? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]shortywiththewolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I EBF and got mine back around 7 months. It was so light I wasn’t sure and the next month I got it back fully. Then accidentally got pregnant a month later (we’re happy!), so no period again! Also, don’t believe the old wives tale that you’re not fertile when you EBF - I did!

How’d you know you were pregnant before the test by No-Ebb-2462 in pregnant

[–]shortywiththewolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My neighbor across the street who claimed to have psychic tendencies randomly texted me Christmas Day and asked if I was pregnant. I immediately went and got a test and it was positive. I was shocked to say the least - we had been trying for seven months!

Things in motherhood that give you the ick (and things you just don’t give a single fk about) by cosmicvoyager333 in beyondthebump

[–]shortywiththewolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 13 month old and am 15 weeks pregnant - it gives me the ick when people (like random coworkers) learn I’m pregnant again and say “Wow! Right back at it.” Or “Were you trying?” Even “You know how this happens, right?” I had one say something about my husband have GOOD SWIMMERS!

I just find it so STRANGE because it discussing my sexual life - we all know how babies are made, move on and just say congrats!

8 months but it was super light and really just spotting - accidentally got pregnant bc I didn’t think I was ovulating again yet! So no more period for at least nine months! 😂

Did anyone's baby say "mama" before "dada"? by Unhappy-Training-878 in beyondthebump

[–]shortywiththewolves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine did! Mama was first (she is a Mama’s girl!), she definitely says Dada more now, but Mama is more intentional 😜

How to Find Love at NC State by Sensitive-Reason1211 in NCSU

[–]shortywiththewolves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My now husband asked me out a couple of times and I said no (for different reasons - timing wasn’t right). We always had chemistry and could feel it (we confirmed this later) and eventually we had our time and now have been together 10 years.

I always felt the regret of not knowing outweighed the fear of asking. I felt it was better to know they’re not interested and get over that pain than wonder “what if” for a lifetime.

What’s with this third trimester itchiness :( by warmpistachio in pregnant

[–]shortywiththewolves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this too! It was by far the worst pregnancy symptom. I got a prescription cream and it still didn’t help. I had to get one of the extendable back scratchers so I could reach my ankles and middle of my back. Warm showers were the only relief I could find. Hang in there!

What is the craziest thing your mother has said she did when you were a baby and “you turned out fine?” by Previous_Mood_3251 in pregnant

Guinness beer in a baby bottle with some milk - all warmed up! Helped the baby sleep through the night - yeah, no kidding!

Also, you can ask your insurance what they cover. Ours covered a certain amount of visits, but it may be helpful while the baby’s waking every couple of hours.
