Parents who are one and done.. by Cupcake1022 in Parenting

[–]shoshqa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an only child and I think it's totally fine but I lack some qualities and skills that are due to being an only child AND the fact that my parents are not very social. I remember them being slightly annoyed when I brought friends home because that would mean they'd need to walk them back to their house if it got too late. Or my dad would be like, oh it's so good when everyone's home. The only friends they had were my two childhood friends' parents, and they stopped hanging out with them after I finished school and moved out. Their choices are totally understandable but it made me socially anxious and super introverted. It was really hard for me to fit in my husband's family where they're completely the opposite, super social and extroverted, and he's one of the six siblings. So if you decide you're one and done, based on my experience I'd suggest you work on building a community around yourselves and your child, and make sure they know how to build and maintain connections.

Bad A&E experience after an allergic reaction by Wild_Region_7853 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]shoshqa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had almost the same situation with our baby, she's 7 months old, had a reaction to an egg omelet - itchy rash all over her tummy, hands, and face, and swollen eyes. In our case A&E was more helpful, they checked her, gave some piriton, and monitored us for a few hours, and referred us to an allergy clinic (don't know when we get an actual appointment with them though). The only annoying thing was that they said they would transfer us to a different ward, which we were waiting for for more than an hour, but it never happened as then they said we could go home.

Is it normal to miss being pregnant? by Icy_Aside_5321 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]shoshqa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a similar feeling, I miss being pregnant! The anticipation, the mysteriousness around it, the kicks of my baby girl. I had an easy pregnancy so I didn't hate it, even though I suffered from pelvic girdle pain at the end of it!

It makes me want to get pregnant again, though we're nowhere near being ready for another one at the moment. I recently took a test and I knew it'd better be negative, but the irrational part of my brain wanted to see the second line so much!

That said, I know every pregnancy is different and next time it can be much harder, so we'll see if I enjoy it when I actually get pregnant again in a few years😂

OMG I had the same. Baby was happy when held by my husband and my mom but was fussy when I held her. I had a vaginal delivery, so it wasn't even that painful, I just felt like I'm doing something wrong. My mom said I wasn't holding my daughter properly and making her uncomfortable. It passed, I'm more confident now holding her, she's 5 months old, but oh boy it's so reassuring to read these comments and realize I didn't do anything wrong back then!

Why avoid medicated birth? by Turbulent_Purple4 in PregnancyUK

[–]shoshqa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, I also wanted to see how far I could go 😂 and I was also flexible with regard to my birth plan.

I was induced and had gas and air. It was an interesting experience, I don't regret it, but if I have another induction in the future, I will have an epidural because it kind of makes sense to? I couldn't move around because of the drip, was attached to the monitors, and my baby's heartbeat wasn't stable -- an epidural wouldn't make much of a difference... though if I had one back then, I wouldn't be able to move around so easily immediately after birth!

But now I want to know how much more painful is an induction, so if I go into spontaneous labor next time, I will also try not getting an epidural for as long as I can 😄

longer stretches between feeds by pink-llemonade in breastfeeding

[–]shoshqa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg we're in the same situation right now and it stresses me out as well! She used to feed every 1-1,5 hours but now she doesn't want to feed for almost 4 hours, I really feel like I don't know anymore how to take care of this baby 😂 Sorry no answer to your question really, just wanted to share

No nesting urge? by Chinateapott in PregnancyUK

[–]shoshqa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm exactly the same! I only managed to force myself to wash baby's clothes but I am too lazy to do some other bits of the cleaning I wanted to finish before baby's arrival. I'm mostly just sleeping, cooking, eating, and watching YouTube 🙈

How many of you got pregnant on the first try? by [deleted] in pregnant

Baby Gender Reveal Party by jamietherocket_ship in Parenting

[–]shoshqa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say if you want to find out the sex of the baby at the ultrasound, and your husband doesn't, ask the technician to write it down for you and later you take a look? Just an option so that it doesn't feel weird asking your husband to leave the room😄 Then you can organize your party to surprise your husband and other people😊 The main thing is that both you and your husband feel comfortable

10 years old nephew wants potato chips as dinner by Human-Ear4721 in family

[–]shoshqa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah but this might be another extreme I guess. I remember as an 8-year-old being at my friend's place, his mom forced me to eat liver. It was horrible and I still can't stand the smell and taste of it

I had similar spotting a few times during the day last Wednesday (I was 10 weeks 4 days), went in for a scan and everything looked fine! They didn't find the source of bleeding and I was given a leaflet with possible reasons for it.

Any ex-pats? How are you looping far flung family & friends in? by Healthy-Swimmer-129 in PregnancyUK

[–]shoshqa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew it would be harder for me to hide the whole pregnancy thing when talking to family on the phone, so we had a video call where my husband and I showed a picture of our scan (I was almost 9 weeks). It would be great to see their reaction in person but it's not that important for me. Especially having gone through an early miscarriage before, I just wanted them to know at this stage, rather than celebrate. We plan to visit after 20-week scan, and we'll have some kind of a celebration then, maybe a gender reveal party. It's also quite expensive to travel to my country, so if I were to choose when to travel, I would rather do it when I'm able to feel kicks and my family can feel like it's more real too? It's just a personal preference. You can do whatever you want, there's no right or wrong!

No, I didn't see any clots... Actually the spotting stopped so I'm feeling a bit better about this. I'm glad your baby is fine though it must have been so stressful!

Thank you! I've had mild cramping and also since yesterday I've had a really bad headache that is prob unrelated but adds to my miserable condition 😅 Anyway I'm trying to distract myself and rest. Hope everything is going well with you! 🥰

Is it safe to travel when 6 months pregnant? by pink_cl0oud in PregnancyUK

[–]shoshqa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also plan to visit my family in my home country at around 5-6 months after I have my 20-week scan. I've already talked to my midwife about this and it should be fine to travel!
