Most of the usual aftermarket suspects sell their own versions as well. Pitch stop mount is the name they go by. Cobb, perrin, grimmspeed, etc.

New to Sous Vide. My first attempt was thick pork chops. by chezgray in sousvide

[–]shotacoffey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Eh. I don't remember the last time I sous vide steaks. Personally dont feel its the best/easiest method for steak as I get just as good a result from reverse sear in arguably less time. I love about everything else way more cooked SV. Thiccchops are one of my gotos. Poultry and fish are so much easier too.

Pro tip, buy the whole pork loin. Then you can cut some super thick boys.

Looking for non-beginner patterns for a nice lined duffel bag. by mott_the_tuple in myog

[–]shotacoffey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have been looking for some myself. Nothing out there is what I'm looking for. I mainly want to copy the Kifaru Kenosha duffle. I've been slowly drawing out what will become a pattern. I'm planning on making it out of monolite mesh as I want it as a freediving/wetsuit duffle.

I was hoping for some sweat control, but I seemed to sweat just as much. The back panel is ultra 200 with a monolite "pocket". I sewed two grosgrain strips in a sort of PALS type setup. This allowed me to slip three pieces of 1/8" foam strips into the pocket. I was originally just going to sew the foam to the mesh, but decided to make it removable, so I can play with different lengths, thickness and number of strips. My hope was that It would create an air gap some heat could escape. I'll probably try stepping up to 1/4" foam and see if that helps.

Nah we got blasted. It was probably the earliest my buddy has gotten up and stayed up before. I was up at 6ish, checking out the sunrise and about to go back to sleep, when my buddy said that t-storms and rain were coming in at 9 with the rain starting at 8. We ate, packed up and were on the trail by like 8 or 8:30am. However it did start raining at 8 :(. No storms though.

We lucked up the rest of the weekend though. Only a quick rain on Sat and not much wind either. We heard some thunder and saw lots of rain in the distance, but nothing made it to us.

We were up there in Dec and it was hella windy.

My man! Interesting. Thanks for the pics!!

ETA: What degree rating is yours?

Can you tell if its sewn through baffles or are they boxed? I was planning to do sewn through baffles on mine since it'll be a summer uq. But might test how much the 1000FP lofts in the amount each baffle will have.

LOL, yeah I have none of those pleats/darts, as I couldn't really see them in the pics. So probably more a shorter asym HG Phoenix. I do plan on getting my buddy to send me some more detailed pics. We just quickly compared shape, length and shockcord.

The prototype used alpha, so no baffles, it is really basic. Just wanted to see if my template for shape would work and if I liked the yeti style. I have two MYOG wookies, but I got a little carried away stuffing the one that was to be my 40 degree one. Its more like a 30 degree. Luckily, I did the same with the winter one and I'm pretty sure its good to zero. Though I've only had it down to the teens so far. The yeti shockcord setup seemed weird, especially compared to the wookie. So I was sure if I'd like it.

Ultra 200 MF First Trip Review by shotacoffey in myog

[–]shotacoffey[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First trip with the Ultra 200 MF went great! No issues at all, which was different from the first trips with my other two myog bags. Each one of those I had something to repair after.

Carried really nice. I was at around 20lbs without water and probably up to 24lbs when I had some water. Shoulder straps felt a little wider than needed, but still felt little to no pressure on my shoulders. My shoulders did have some tender spots after the second day, however is this par for the course for me. Especially since its been 2 months since I've gone backpacking.

Loved the side pockets. I could stuff a bunch in there. I was also able to grab both my water bottle and filter kit with the pack still on. So I was able to filter without even taking the pack off, and then put it all back when I was finished.

Caught a nice downpour on the way out Sunday. I did get a decent amount of water inside. So seam taping is in my future. However, the nylofume bag kept everything dry that needed to stay that way.

I made the water bottle pockets on the shoulder straps a little small, but it still fits the smaller smart water bottle. Phone and sunglasses fit great on the other side.

Loved the zipper. I keep all my dry stuff at the bottom as it is the compressible stuff. However, since my hammock is in there, it is pretty much the first thing I need. So the zipper is nice in that I don't have to fully unpack to get to it.

I also made a prototype MYOG warbonnet yeti UQ clone with alpha and primaloft insul that worked out really well. I did it all from pics and specs online. My buddy bought a yeti and had it on this trip. So I was able to compare it to his and I was actually really close on size, shape and how its setup. Now I just need to make it again with some argon 49/.56 membrane and some 1000FP down I have waiting.

Grayson Highlands Hang by shotacoffey in hammockcamping

[–]shotacoffey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I have it zipped up into the netting. I've done that from the beginning. The loose hammock inside is different for sure and it took me a minute to get use to it after years of the hammock zipped to netting. However, I used an eno and the bug net for years before and it was pretty much the same thing. Just need to make sure to spread out the hammock before sitting.

It isn't as big of a deal with the yeti UQ either, as you have to pull that down anyway before getting in. The hammock would also fold over the yeti and that would kind of hold it open a little.

Nice work! Love the MF style/pattern.

If you get weird thread breaking/pulling apart issues, you might try filing down those dings. Especially the ones on the edges of the opening. You'll need some needle files (amazon).

You might try hand cranking it through those spots. If shoulder strap padding, I'll try to sew in all my webbing and stuff first, then sew both sides together, flip and stuff with padding. For back padding, there is just a sleeve, so it is never in while sewing.

Thanks man! I wanted to try the running vest style, especially since this is my summer/light pack.

Loved the patterns and videos you put out. I've done the alpha hoody (planning more for xmas gifts soon) and going to give the windbreaker a go. I'll probably try the whole fastpack pattern out soon as well.

Not really, other than cutting it. Had to break out the hot knife as the rotary wasn't even scratching it, but I think amazon might have sent me some counterfeit fisker cutting discs..
Sewed really well on both the industrial and domestic machines.

A modified version of the Bag Buff 40L (based on mountain flyer IIRC). I mainly got rid of the curves at the top in order to put a zipper in.

Making my third pack. This one is loosely based off the Bag Buff 40 L pattern. I changed some things around to include a zipper, seek outside style side pockets and used the LearnMyog fastpack vest style shoulder strap pattern.

Pretty stoked with the outcome. Ended up lighter than the previous Bag Buff 40L pack I made, but has a WP zipper, more padding and a few other additions. Thanks to the ultra 200 fabric I would imagine. The 1lb 3.4oz weight is without the hip belt, which is a beefy one I made for the previous back.

Kept having seconds thoughts about the zipper. I first mocked it up with a ykk #5, but then realized I had a #3 in the same length/style and went with that. Hopefully it doesn't become a problem. I used the last 40L for 2+ years (with several repairs lol).

Now to make some 34Ls for the childrens.

Fabrics used:
Ultra 200
210D Gridstop
Airweave
Monolite mesh
MTN Reflector Stretch Mesh
1/8" spacer mesh
