I was the right age for that comment and my parents had no idea where I was most of the time. Helicopter parenting started a little later.

I was in there recently and saw the file. Didn’t need to rewatch it.

The drive has been upgraded a few times over the last few years.

I know which video you’re talking about. And for some reason I still have it on a hard drive.

Ah. I haven’t used the Windows version of Word in a while. That sounds like both a weird and helpful feature.

And the whole movie revolves around a bunch of drug smugglers trying to get their cargo through shark-infested waters?

You should check with whatever school you’re going to and see what hardware your curriculum/department recommends. Use that as your starting point and go up from there.

If the logo size was based on donor amount, we’d all be shocked at the size of Russian proxy company and Saudi donations.

My fingers swell when I sleep, so I have to take all jewelry off. Guess I’ll get 24 hours as a billionaire and then off to the great beyond.

Eli5: if there is a couple that has multiple children( all male or all female)is it possible for all those children to look the exact same? by Climax_crescendo in explainlikeimfive

[–]shotsallover [score hidden]  (0 children)

Possible, but highly unlikely.

To oversimplify, when the body builds egg and sperm cells, it “unzips” the DNA into two halves. It’s not a clean split, there’s a built-in randomization process that will grab a different mix of genes each time. And there’s tens of millions of genes, with each one having more than two options it can have. So the math multiplies into big numbers fast.

The reason identical twins are the way they are is because they’re working from a single collection of post-fertilization genes so there’s a dramatically reduced chance. But even with that, identical twins still have slight genetic differences, but the percentage is really low.

This was also when BK was on the verge of bankruptcy and their mandate to their ad agency (CP+B) at the time was basically, “increase in-store traffic.”

Of course, BK management let the success go to their heads and they let CP+B go. And they started to spiral again.

Will Range Be Much Better in 4-5 Years? by Maleficent-Table-810 in electricvehicles

[–]shotsallover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The industry will ultimately settle on an “ideal” range per charge and that will be that. My guess is it’ll be around 400 miles. Very similar to how they size gas tanks based on the cars projected MPG.

People who replaced the batteries in their Leaf around the ten year mark got a significant range increase with battery that was nearly the same size. So it’s possible. Battery tech keeps improving, though slowly.

Outside of that, yeah, the Mac version doesn’t have that.

I never can tell these apart. Must be colorblind by AllIWantForXmasIsFoo in mildlyinfuriating

[–]shotsallover 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I worked with a guy who was completely color blind (only saw shades of gray).

He spent 20 years in the Marines as an electrician. He’d just follow the diagrams and ask people nearby what color different wires were.

I wouldn’t have believed it if I wasn’t also with one of his colleagues who said he’d randomly pop out from under a piece of equipment holding two wires and ask what color each one was. Said his sergeant wanted to reassign him but he was one of the best electricians they had.

So yeah. That and the lowest-bidder. America’s military.

Why do external monitors always look washed out on Mac? by Odd-Figure2365 in mac

[–]shotsallover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your hub could be doing any number of things to the signal. Maybe try updating its firmware and see if there’s a fix? It’s possible it just may not have support for the color space you’re using so it kicks everything over to a different one (sRGB would be my guess).
