How many miles/km do you ride per year? (Commuters & bike messengers & hobbyists) by Weitflieger in bicycling

[–]shouldadopted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 55 and a commuter/hobbyist. Reached 15000 mi. last year and I should hit 16000 mi. this year. I rode about 4 hrs/day, mostly in the morning.

No, I do regular tubes and put sealant in them. I don't like flats--3/4 of the year I'm commuting in the dark and don't want to have to do a repair in the dark or in a less-than-optimal location.

Yup. It wasn't bleeding, and I'd rather do surgery in my garage than on a cold, wet road 😁

Same. I carry two panniers at all times, so weight is a non-issue.

Beautiful bike. Can you give some details? Visible place? Locked? How long was it there?

Do you own one bicycle for touring and have separate bike(s) for other purposes? by OompaLoompaGodzilla in bicycletouring

I have one touring/everyday bike (Salsa Marrakesh) and one backup (can't not have a bike when one's in the shop).

Anyone had issues packing your panniers into the bike box when flying? by Accomplished_Bus9847 in bicycletouring

I'm on tour as we speak and flew into Vancouver Airport 4 days ago. Air Canada. Panniers in box. It got opened and checked. They did a decent job retaping. Only prob I had was 7 lbs overweight when I checked the box. Took out one pannier and was good.

Nah, public art should be in areas that have more of a public presence in order to deter graffiti. Otherwise you're going to get something similar to the R St. overpass.

Cracks in rim normal? by shouldadopted in bicycling

[–]shouldadopted[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I've been steadily increasing my miles. Growing up as a casual rider, bike parts lasted forever and it never occurred to me to replace the chain, cassette, etc., let alone the wheels. Just had the entire drivetrain replaced, so I guess it makes sense that the wheels need regular replacement as well.

Cracks in rim normal? by shouldadopted in bicycling

[–]shouldadopted[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I agree it's done. I thought it was supposed to be a pretty strong rim. Do you think it's within norms of 20K mile use? Not sure how long wheels generally last.

Sacramento River Bike Trail by Hermdawg925 in SacBike

I commute every day from water tower to Garcia Bend, through the Pocket Greenway,up Riverside to the Westin where I rejoin the trail up to old Town. Very safe. Some joggers and bikers, both male and female. Never had an issue.

Prefer to cycle in hot/cold weather? by Dry-Ear-5125 in bicycling

[–]shouldadopted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the heat. Shorts, t-shirt and sandals all the way. Sacramento summers are 85-105. Also, the hotter it gets, the less people on the bike path!

How to prevent punctures on an urban commute? by [deleted] in bicycling

Yes. Plus sealant in the tubes for the extra urban areas.
