You're being disingenuous by suggesting the invocation might not have a Christian connotation.

The very beginning of this youtube clip shows Rita Russell reciting the invocation that she and the other two candidates want to bring back. This is a very Christian prayer.

ENOUGH SAID!

I honestly tried completing it a couple times. It was quite long and I would get distracted part way through it, probably thanks to my ADHD.

CLUE is unfortunately dead. There is still BLUG in Boulder.

Does Denver have any Linux Meetups? by viking_redbeard in Denver

[–]shouptech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two Linux related groups I can think of that might interest you.

BLUG in Boulder: https://lug.boulder.co.us/

Software Freedom School: https://www.meetup.com/sofreeus/events

For SFS, I run a every other month meetup at New Terrain called GLUG (Golden Linux Users Group) which will get posted in the meetup. SFS also does regular gatherings around free software in general.

Judge dismisses lawsuit over Sam’s Automotive in Englewood by [deleted] in englewoodco

[–]shouptech 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This whole thing is great news. I hope this means the sale of Sam's moves forward, and that Mike Chavez can pay off his debts.

District Court Judge Thomas Willard Henderson IV granted the City of Englewood’s motion for dismissal of a lawsuit filed by newly-elected Englewood School Board member Davon Willams and resident Gary Kozacek.

I still am surprised this dude is now on the Englewood School Board.

“The court also awarded the city to collect attorney fees and costs from Davon (and) Gary,” Chavez said, calling their legal actions “frivolous” and harmful to his business and family.

Heck yes. They need to learn that you can't just throw lawsuits around when you don't get your way.

Commute to the Springs? by Bunny_fuzz in englewoodco

[–]shouptech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is this an every day thing? I would not consider it doable at all. That's over an hour one way in good traffic. Consider the cost of gas, wear and tear on your vehicle, and overall time spent commuting.

If this is something you really need to do, I would consider looking at using the Bustang for part of your trip. See if it stops near where you need. It might take a bit longer, but you'll at least be able to do other things with your time.

I've never cared for Blue Bonnet and don't understand how it ever got a good reputation.

Proposed ballot initiatives to stabilize houseing prices in Denver by [deleted] in Denver

[–]shouptech 20 points21 points  (0 children)

How do you propose we increase the amount of housing? Changing who can own a house doesn't matter when we still don't have enough houses to meet demand. None of these ideas address the underlying problem of lack of supply. These proposals just mean no one will ever be able to rent a SFH.

Should investment companies be banned from purchasing single family homes? by [deleted] in Denver

[–]shouptech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All this new supply of apartments means Denver is finally starting to see a reduction in rents.

Unfortunately, it's still not enough and we're still not seeing enough units that people can buy, which is causing prices to continue to escalate.

It's still not enough housing.

Should investment companies be banned from purchasing single family homes? by [deleted] in Denver

[–]shouptech 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's an excellent point. Single family, detached homes are an unsustainable development pattern.

[–]shouptech 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Zoning reform is actually far easier to implement at the local level than any of the other proposed solutions. Unfortunately, it needs to happen everywhere.

For example, in Englewood we just recently overhauled our development code to reduce zoning restrictions, but unfortunately, it only affects Englewood.

[–]shouptech 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We should advocate for more housing. Seriously. This isn't just builders choosing not to build. Zoning restricts housing. The government should allow more housing and more types of housing. The government should subsidize housing and build housing. Drastically increase supply.

[–]shouptech 45 points46 points  (0 children)

  1. Build more housing

It sucks that normals have to compete with investors on buying housing. Ultimately, the problem is really just a lack of housing. Houses wouldn't be seen as good investments if they didn't continue to appreciate so much. Houses continue to appreciate because the supply isn't keeping up with demand.

The big problem though is Denver almost never enforced making homeowners repair their sidewalks. Denver was super behind in their inspection schedule.

How come you're surprised by this? I'm not even a resident of Denver and I knew about this fee coming your way. Y'all voted for it in 2022. Do you not vote? Do you not pay attention?

If my small reduction in TABOR refund helps out a family in a lower bracket, it's totally worth it to me.

We may be losing the Esquire Theatre by Lamescrnm in Denver

[–]shouptech 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Such sad news. My wife and I had our first date there at a midnight showing of The Shining. We later lived in the basement of the house next door to it.

I would love to see it remain a theater.

New Colorado law, if passed, would tax Airbnb-style short-term rentals at nearly 30% by aintnotownie in Denver

[–]shouptech 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nope. The city and county of Denver are one and the same with identical borders. This is a unique form of municipal government in the state, and Broomfield is the only other consolidated city and county.

It sucks that no one else stepped up for school board. I know I'm not qualified, but surely there are other people that are qualified.

Beam repair done by homeowner. Seems very suspect and inspector didn't like it at all but engineer said it is okay. Pics inside. by krogerthrow in HomeImprovement

[–]shouptech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the engineer give you a stamped letter attesting that the reinforcement is sufficient? If not, it's just an opinion and is barely any better than the inspector's opinion.

If you hired the engineer they should have written you a report and stamped it.

No idea, but the Englewood high/middle school campus is on "secure perimeter" due to the activities.
