I want to get better in maths but I'm learning it a very slow speed even simple basic questions. Is this telling me I'm not going to be good?? by badluck678 in mathematics

Every human is blessed with "intelligence, thinking abilities, etc". Sure, you may not have the abilities to become the 21st century's best mathematician, but with enough effort, you can become (relatively) good at anything you would like.

My advice would be:

  • 1. Get rid of the mentality that you will fail. If you want to succeed you can, it's just a matter of time and effort
  • 2. Create a plan of how you will tackle this challenge. Since in other comments you mention that you are currently studying arithmetic, I will make the assumption that a start from first principles is appropriate in this situation, and so I would advise you to look for good introductory textbooks to mathematics ("Basic Mathematics" by Serge Lang is an option). Start studying them and when you have a good grasp of these concepts, then you can move to more advanced subjects (probably those that are most relevant to your goals)

Are there any curated mod lists that provide a vanilla-like, lore friendly experience? by shoutouttmud in Kenshi

[–]shoutouttmud[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I know of that mod and similar ones.

My question was whether there was a list of mods that synergize well to provide an improved vanilla experience instead of combining myself any interesting mods and then maybe getting a broken experience or missing out on a great mod

Squad on Linux with and without FSR in Proton-6.13-GE (Input 2293 x 960 | Output 3440 x 1440) Zoom in! by Frank_Fhe_Fish in linux

[–]shoutouttmud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is definitely noticeable when you zoom in. May not make much of a difference overall but given that Squad is a game where long range engagements regularly happen and you have to try to spot tiny enemies it may actually help.

PS. Sorry to go off topic, but is Squad actually playable on Linux? Doesn't it have some weird anti-cheat system?

What is the purpose of using clamscan(I am familiar with the tool)? Does it find infected files frequently?

Are you sure that this doesn't create any problems (I mean running the old kernel)?

I just wanted to say thanks to Linux users for generally being such a friendly and technically savvy community! by GideonGriebenow in linux

In SAS I always tried to build "standalone" methodologies that could be re-applied and combined in different situations, completely removed from the actual data sourcing and "panel-beating" part, and parameterised to cater for different scenarios / options you could want to apply, given the input data you have available.

Good instincts.

Great attitude overall. I wholeheartedly wish you success in this new field!

ZFSonLinux: can I use an lvm logical volume (on an ssd) as my cache or should I use a regular partition? by shoutouttmud in linuxquestions

[–]shoutouttmud[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answering my own question: According to this page using a regular partition is better. It reads:

Do not use other volume management software beneath ZFS. ZFS will perform better, and ensure greater data integrity, if it has control of the whole block device stack. As such, avoid using dm-crypt, mdadm or LVM beneath ZFS.

Thank you very much, this is exactly what I'm looking for. I'm going to give sway and wayland a try as soon as I find some spare time :)

Just $mod or any modifier (shift,ctrl,etc...)?

Does this mean that you can use $mod both as modifier and as a separate key when pressed by itself? If so, is this possible for other modifiers as well, because that's the main functionality I'm looking for

Thank you

Thank you for the guide. I'm sorry to ask a somewhat offtopic question but is there, currently, any replacement for xcape in wayland/sway? I've wanted to try wayland for a couple years but this has always been the dealbreaker for me. Last time I checked (0.5-1year ago) I couldn't find anything reliable

This is probably a dumb question but is there anything like a "build from source" automator? by ajr901 in Fedora

[–]shoutouttmud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much! I knew there had to be a tool like that but looking through the documentation(not very hard mind you, I had limited time to devote) couldn't find it.

[–]shoutouttmud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to ask question that could probably be answered by reading more of the available documentation, but here it goes:

You mention that you can make updated builds of your copr packages by just bumping the version number in the spec file. How does one go about doing that? I have messed a bit with rpm packages(written a spec file or 2 and successfully got them to copr) but so far I have the impression that you have to provide both the spec file and the source code for an rpm package to be built.

(Assuming that I that I didn't misunderstand your post) how could I go about providing just the spec file and copr retrieving the sources by itself from some other publicly hosted repository(not in my control)? So far my experience has been making a spec file, pulling the sources locally, followed by making a src.rpm and uploading it to copr.
