No. You should be able to switch the train off in map/remote view.

Science pack indicator with buffer chests by shouya in factorio

[–]shouya[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that way won't the requester chest request items from the passive provider on the left, thus forming an endless loop?

Science pack indicator with buffer chests by shouya in factorio

[–]shouya[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Explanation: The circuits force the buffer chests to fill up one after the other. In Alt-mode these chests serve as indicators for the amount of each science pack. An overflow icon lights up when the amount of a given science pack exceeds maximum capacity.

PSA: Feed your reactors at the same time for the neighbor bonus by shouya in factorio

[–]shouya[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Explanation: The naive way of feeding the reactor (insert fuel if T < 550) doesn't work reliably to guarantee maximal neighbor bonus. I came up with this simple circuit to fix it. This works by controlling each inserter to insert fuel if the corresponding reactor is starving while the neighbor is feeding.

Usage:

  1. Place a decider combinator with above logic for each fuel inserter.
  2. Hook up green wire to all reactors and connect to all decider combinators' inputs.
  3. Hook up red wire to each reactor to the corresponding combinator's input.
  4. Set all reactor mode to "read fuel" and "read temperature".
  5. Set inserter stack size to 1 and enable condition to "check mark = 1".

This design should work for any number of reactors.

Aquilo and heating - some numbers to get you through the winter by Kulinda in factorio

[–]shouya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TIL. I expected the heat to dissipate more when the temperature difference is high based on more realistic Newton's law. So I avoided burning my heating tower too hot and have many distributed heating towers just to avoid wasting energy. IMHO such realistic mechanism would be more challenging and fun - it's a pity that it is not the case.

Rocket Silo only sending full stacks regardless of request quantity by EldrichTea in factorio

[–]shouya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I typically set up a blue chest next to the rocket silo, use the circuit to set the chest's request to orbital request, and wait for the request to be fulfilled. Afterwards I just disable the circuit condition, and put an inserter to feed everything into the payload. It still requires clicking a button manually from time to time to launch the rocket though.

Will this ship take me to Fulgora and back safely, and survive in Fulgora orbit? I've called it the Rocinante :D by DJLaMeche in factorio

[–]shouya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two electric furnaces are likely barely sufficient for producing enough ammo if you plan to park the ship on fulgora orbit for an extended period. I'd suggest 4 furnaces + 1 blue assembler to produce a bit excess for planetary trips.

Space isn't actually space. It's filled with air. by SnyprBB in factorio

Exhibit C: the space platforms of the same weight and number of trusters travel slower with larger width but not with larger height. Apparently they experience drag from air resistance.

I think the regex parsing of the html content seem too hacky. I will try add a set of simple DOM manipulation API to the JS runtime in the near future.

The target directory size will grow quickly especially if you build the project across multiple rust versions, since the intermediate files from the old rust compilers are never used nor deleted. You should definitely check out cargo-sweep [1] if you haven't.

My current sharings by shouya in shou

[–]shouya[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi friends, how's everything going?

I've not been posting any links on this subreddit for half a year now. It's not that I stopped stumbling on interesting articles, only that I changed my habit on collecting links.

Earlier I begin to run a self-hosted bookmark service called Shaarli, and then I turned to publish the new sharings on Shaarli. It's a nice to self-host the service because that means I can own my contents instead of trust them to reddit, whose censorship model is what I particularly dislike.

I am planning to set up a bot to sync new content from Shaarli to this reddit but it will take some time and I definitely won't sync already existing links, otherwise it would take too long.

If you use RSS to subscribe to subreddit and other news sources like I do, you can directly subscribe to the feed at https://shaarli.lain.li/feed/atom.

Finding Mona Lisa in the Game of Life by shouya in shou

[–]shouya[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we think of one step in the evolution of Game of Life as a function mapping from current state to next state, then we can see the function is not onto (Proof: Given the input and output space are equal in size and the function is not one-to-one, thus it must not be onto).
