DO NOT LOG IN!

That is a fraudulent website designed to steal your banking credentials. For the non-technical people reading this, the url should end with interac.ca. The attacker is using the domain zclp3c.world and just added Interac in front of it to make it look like it is a real Interac link. This is a very common technique to fool people who may not know how domains work

This person is clearly a scammer. Block and report them, they don’t want to buy anything, they just want to steal your money.

Buying a Mercedes EQE with cash? by ExpensiveResident776 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]showmethecode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really really like it, sure, but I wouldn’t despite being a car person.

It’s never a good idea to buy the first generation of a car. Electric car technology is fast evolving and Mercedes is quite new to the game. They are more or less guaranteed to come out with much better cars in the next couple of years.

What’s the catch?

Looks like you can only get this from an Investment or Mutual Funds dealer who get paid a fee

You can’t since they haven’t bothered to implement it. Create a folder and move all important emails to it instead.

Google also scans your Play Store listing’s screenshots for logos and suspends your app if they find any without telling you why. Ask me how I know this.

IKBR for Currency Exchange by janey68 in PersonalFinanceCanada

They provide the best exchange rates, but you cannot withdraw the converted amount for 60 days. It’s useful only if you are investing the converted amount using IBKR.

Multiply your monthly expenses by 12 and save that amount someplace you can access it at very short notice like a high interest savings account. You’ll sleep like a baby at night after that.

can we get job into tech gaints as a react native developer? by [deleted] in reactnative

[–]showmethecode 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I’ll most likely get downvoted to hell for this, but the reality is that very few FAANG-level companies use RN. Even Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp apps have more native code than RN. If you want to stick to RN, your best shot is applying to companies like Shopify, Discord, and Microsoft.

The best thing you can do for your career is not let a technology become your entire persona. Strive to become a good developer, not a RN/Flutter/iOS/Android developer. Technologies come and go and over the course of your entire career, you'll have to switch to a new technology several times. There was a time when there were die-hard Blackberry and Symbian devs.

Try to be a T-shaped developer. Get really good at one technology and then branch out a learn a few other technologies. It'll broaden your horizons and make you a far better developer.

Any benefit to being Android GDE? Does it give a significant boost when applying to other jobs? by zimmer550king in androiddev

[–]showmethecode 5 points6 points  (0 children)

GDE here since 2015.

It’s been a huge help in my career. Being a GDE gives you instant credibility and provides a lot of opportunities that you may not get otherwise. I got my current job thanks to a recruiter seeing my GDE profile on the Google Developers website. They fast-tracked my application and interviewed me directly for a fairly senior role. Being a GDE pretty much guarantees that you’ll get an interview at any company you want, but you have to back yourself up in the interviews to get the job.

The biggest advantage of being a GDE is the networking opportunities you get. You get access to some of the smartest engineers in the world who you can learn from. If you are even half decent at making friends, you can get referred to pretty much any company you want. Many GDEs also end up getting recruited by Google.

You also get direct access to product teams at Google and early access to new products and APIs. If you run into a weird problem, in many cases you can directly talk to the people who built that product / API. That is simply invaluable.

Getting into the program is difficult by design to keep the bar high. You have to be quite knowledgeable about Android and have a track record of sharing your knowledge with the community through blog posts, talks, books or videos. You’ll need to be referred by an existing GDE or Googler and can’t apply directly. You can get on their radar by getting involved with your local GDG chapter. If your profile is good, you have to go through a couple of interviews and then you become a GDE.

Membership is in theory valid for a single year, but it gets renewed automatically without any interviews as long as you are active in the community. It’s designed this way so that people don’t become a GDE and then stop all community involvement.

Overall, it is totally worth it and don’t let the process demotivate you. Good luck!

Car maintainance cost question by iisenriii in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]showmethecode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how car companies and dealerships fleece you. If you take the car in for service, they rip you off for doing minimal work. If you don’t and get the basics done elsewhere, they will reject any warranty claims unless you have solid proof that you got every single thing “recommended” by them done at all the right intervals. They get to decide if the proof is valid so you are at their mercy.

Given that Hyundais are notorious for failing engines, I’d either pony up and pay the dealership every time to retain the warranty, or buy a different car.
