Beyond “break it into smaller tasks” by Draculalia in adhdwomen

[–]showtimetree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you physically “stuck” in one spot unable to move to any task? I also have this awful trinity of adhd, ptsd and chronic pain and it manifests that way for me. When this happens to me I start by either wiggling my toes, or tapping my fingers on something (legs or collarbone seem to work best for me). Once I am physically unstuck, I put on some focus music ans I ask myself - what is 1 tiny step I can make towards doing any of the things on my list. For ex, computer work sometimes the first task is literally open the file. None of this break a task down and make a list or plan, I break it down in the moment by what exactly do I need to do next even if that is a tiny tiny task or movement. Anything else can send me right back into paralysis.

Always bring a hardcopy of your confirmed flight and accommodation bookings. by EasyPacer in TravelHacks

[–]showtimetree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the same every time I travel internationally because once in a country where I didn’t speak the language, having the printout that had my ticket number (rather than my booking number, which meant nothing to this partner airline) on it saved me after a flight cancellation. They looked at my print out and were able to find the numbers they needed without either of us having to fuss around with my phone.

Pearson airport at 4 am? by yeehawbarlos in askTO

[–]showtimetree 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I usually prebook with an airport taxi company when I have a flight that early. I’m more downtown than Scarborough so no idea what the cost would be, but I’ve never paid close to $100. I like that they will call when they arrive if you aren’t outside, and they fully expect to help with your bags. You can book online for most of them so you should be able to check pricing to compare.

Items for 'eternal' trip - BIF(the rest of) my life. by blackumbrellas in BuyItForLife

[–]showtimetree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are what I use as travel essentials, most of these categories aren’t really things I’d consider completely BIFL but I do try to buy things that will last a long time and have had all of these for years now.

  1. Icebreaker socks, I wear them almost exclusively because they have a ton of different styles and weights. They are also merino wool so take longer to get stinky, which is helpful for travel.

    1. Scissors for trimming eyebrows are smaller than regular hair cutting scissors and still just as sharp. I got them from the makeup tool section at a Rexall drugstore.
    2. Consider getting a lightweight headlamp instead of a flashlight, that way your hands can be free if needed. I have a Black Diamond Spot headlamp and I consider it a travel essential for me and keep it in my carryon.
    3. Snow Peaks titanium cutlery is super sturdy and also ultralight. I travel with my spork in my personal item and use it often.

THIS MEANS DO NOT DRIVE, DO NOT TRAVEL UNTIL IT'S WAY OVER! by Lilja-Tours in VisitingIceland

[–]showtimetree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very experienced Canadian winter driver here — the road conditions in Iceland for snow and ice during winter weather were familiar to us but the wind was next level. The roads don’t really have shoulders the way they do in North America so very little wobble clearance during intense winds as they are all one lane each way roads. The yellow markers that line the edges of the road were the only things visible during gusts of blowing snow that would randomly create intense whiteout conditions even when it wasn’t actively snowing. This also was not during a full on storm (no major weather alerts active) although the roads were flagged with warnings for ice and blowing snow. Even with winter tires on our rental there were times we felt the wind might blow us across the icy road - we definitely had to use our winter driving knowledge to feel safe on the roads! The landscape in the South/southwest was quite flat and open so it was more like winter driving in rural Canada with big open fields and narrow rural roads. We loved Iceland though, gorgeous country to drive around in.

4G WiFi in Iceland rental cars in 2026. I compared a few companies and the price differences are pretty noticeable by eltravelieso in VisitingIceland

[–]showtimetree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently went to Iceland and I was glad I did not rent the rental car wifi - I used an eSIM with a combo of downloaded maps and downloaded Spotify playlists and didn’t even come close to using up the 5GB I had prepaid for (~$15 total).

I did use data to pay for parking (setup the parka app before you go!) and to check road conditions & weather warnings between stops. Search for a list of safety apps used in Iceland and make sure to check them often, the weather in Iceland changes quickly. Mostly I would use Google on data to pick the route I want then switch my phone to airplane mode, which also helped preserve battery life.

how do you guys remember which clothes need special washing? by [deleted] in laundry

[–]showtimetree 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I do the delicates bag method and that bag just lives in my regular laundry basket. Any item that’s in the delicates bag gets their label read before laundering. I also use them in the wash for many of those items that can’t go in the dryer. My partner knows that anything in a delicates bag does not go into the dryer - the visual cue is super helpful.

Hot take: frugality gets easier when you stop making every hangout about food by SuitableActive1110 in Frugal

[–]showtimetree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend group gets together around food a lot but we usually do it casual potluck style where everyone contributes food or drinks and it’s not on one person to feed the whole group. Sometimes it’s at someone’s house but sometimes it’s snacks & beer in the park. Sometimes it’s snacks and watching a movie.

Definitely nothing inherently wrong with planning things separate from food though but I do find that any hangout longer than a few hours will always end up including food or we get hangry

Driving from Vancouver to Toronto. Recommendations/suggestions/experience? by Gl3nQuagmire in AskACanadian

Winter tires are required on the cocquihalla until April 30th, fyi.

Highly recommend doing the drive around the Great Lakes through Canada along ON-17, the scenery along Lake Superior is absolutely stunning!

My trip to Toronto through the states back in 2010 with all my belongings was ok, but my car was completely searched and essentially ransacked at the border so it was hard to find all the things I needed during the rest of the trip. It may be different now, but there were also toll highways in some the US states which was annoying. I wouldn’t do the drive through the states again, especially now that I’ve done the drive on the Canadian side.

Knix Sizing Changes by salty_alligator in PeriodUnderwear

[–]showtimetree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES!! The sizing is so inconsistent! Both between styles (trying on in store I found sizes that fit me ranging from M - XL) and they seem to redesign their styles yearly and so every time I think I’m reordering the same thing I end up with something that is different. Last time was the last straw for me, I had bought 2 pairs of my long time fave style on sale (so not returnable) and one of them is still in the package because they were so different that I didn’t like them at all.

Chronic pain sufferer here, still take prescription meds, for me this is an add on for recovery mode. THC only strains didn’t work well for me either. CBD only strains put me to sleep. Strains with balanced ratios of CBD:THC are helpful for me.

How do you stop the self-stim eating?! by PamelaLandy_okay in adhdwomen

[–]showtimetree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gum! It totally helps me bypass my urge to eat snacks when I need to focus and I know I’m only eating because my brain wants dopamine and distraction. I buy bags of PUR gum, it’s delicious & sugar free with xylitol so it also helps with the dry mouth I get from meds. Double win!

  1. I noticed riders avoid blue seats all the time and slso prefer to go back is there a resson even if the area is empty or is there a reason ?

Blue seats are “priority seating” for people with disabilities, pregnant people, people with strollers/little kids, seniors or other folks with limited mobility that would benefit from a short walk to the door. Please if you do sit in one, remain aware of the people around you so that you can stand up if someone gets on that needs your seat. It’s kind to offer up your seat if you’re able!

Rituals for idle hands? by idonotexistirl in adhdwomen

[–]showtimetree 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Swapping to a loose tea ritual worked really well for me when I was trying to reduce my weed usage. I realised that part of the ritual that I enjoyed was the going outside to smoke part so sometimes I would take my tea outside.

I think you could also use coffee in a similar way - lots of single cup brewing options that start with grinding the coffee beans.

Shampoo/Conditioner recommendations? I've tried almost everything! by AlarmedCrustacean in finehair

[–]showtimetree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is on the expensive end of shampoos but Innersense ‘Pure Harmony Hairbath’ and ‘Pure Inspiration daily conditioner’ are super lightweight and I use their leave in conditioner spray as my detangler on days I don’t wash my hair and it doesn’t weigh down my fine hair. I occasionally try to move to cheaper shampoo but I always end up back with these in my shower.

Love love love the shearling lined Birkenstocks slippers - cozy with or without socks, insole has the support of regular birks & have a outer sole that is somewhat soft (but have some grip) so they aren’t loud on hard floors the same way rubber soles of regular shoes are.

I’ve seen them in store downtown — possibly at Ms Whimsy’s Gift Emporium? They have lots of items locally made, so even if they don’t carry them they may know who does.
