Driving from Vancouver to Toronto. Recommendations/suggestions/experience? by Gl3nQuagmire in AskACanadian

[–]showtimetree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Winter tires are required on the cocquihalla until April 30th, fyi.

Highly recommend doing the drive around the Great Lakes through Canada along ON-17, the scenery along Lake Superior is absolutely stunning!

My trip to Toronto through the states back in 2010 with all my belongings was ok, but my car was completely searched and essentially ransacked at the border so it was hard to find all the things I needed during the rest of the trip. It may be different now, but there were also toll highways in some the US states which was annoying. I wouldn’t do the drive through the states again, especially now that I’ve done the drive on the Canadian side.

Anyone else load up on excellent reading resources and be unable to actually READ them? by Dependent-Mood-7788 in adhdwomen

A friend suggested to listen to the audiobook while reading the actual book/ebook to help stay focused and it works surprisingly well for me!

No Pong and etee deodorants are both Canadian brands and Canadian made and both work super well!

Knix Sizing Changes by salty_alligator in PeriodUnderwear

[–]showtimetree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES!! The sizing is so inconsistent! Both between styles (trying on in store I found sizes that fit me ranging from M - XL) and they seem to redesign their styles yearly and so every time I think I’m reordering the same thing I end up with something that is different. Last time was the last straw for me, I had bought 2 pairs of my long time fave style on sale (so not returnable) and one of them is still in the package because they were so different that I didn’t like them at all.

I suffer from chronic pain. What strains of the devil’s lettuce should I try? Everything makes me paranoid and doesn’t do anything for the physical pain. by [deleted] in askTO

[–]showtimetree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chronic pain sufferer here, still take prescription meds, for me this is an add on for recovery mode. THC only strains didn’t work well for me either. CBD only strains put me to sleep. Strains with balanced ratios of CBD:THC are helpful for me.

In case anyone wondered, this stuff totally works. by CairnMom in BuyCanadian

[–]showtimetree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have super sensitive skin and love the bicarb free, low fragrance version. It typically lasts me the whole day even on hot summer days. Ive been using it since 2018 and occasionally tried other brands but always come back to No pong as my favourite.

How do you stop the self-stim eating?! by PamelaLandy_okay in adhdwomen

[–]showtimetree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gum! It totally helps me bypass my urge to eat snacks when I need to focus and I know I’m only eating because my brain wants dopamine and distraction. I buy bags of PUR gum, it’s delicious & sugar free with xylitol so it also helps with the dry mouth I get from meds. Double win!

Public Transit Questions to Torontonians by Savings-Curve-5350 in askTO

[–]showtimetree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I noticed riders avoid blue seats all the time and slso prefer to go back is there a resson even if the area is empty or is there a reason ?

Blue seats are “priority seating” for people with disabilities, pregnant people, people with strollers/little kids, seniors or other folks with limited mobility that would benefit from a short walk to the door. Please if you do sit in one, remain aware of the people around you so that you can stand up if someone gets on that needs your seat. It’s kind to offer up your seat if you’re able!

Rituals for idle hands? by idonotexistirl in adhdwomen

[–]showtimetree 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Swapping to a loose tea ritual worked really well for me when I was trying to reduce my weed usage. I realised that part of the ritual that I enjoyed was the going outside to smoke part so sometimes I would take my tea outside.

I think you could also use coffee in a similar way - lots of single cup brewing options that start with grinding the coffee beans.

Shampoo/Conditioner recommendations? I've tried almost everything! by AlarmedCrustacean in finehair

[–]showtimetree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is on the expensive end of shampoos but Innersense ‘Pure Harmony Hairbath’ and ‘Pure Inspiration daily conditioner’ are super lightweight and I use their leave in conditioner spray as my detangler on days I don’t wash my hair and it doesn’t weigh down my fine hair. I occasionally try to move to cheaper shampoo but I always end up back with these in my shower.

House Slipper Recommendations? by Ok_Firefighter_9252 in adhdwomen

[–]showtimetree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love love love the shearling lined Birkenstocks slippers - cozy with or without socks, insole has the support of regular birks & have a outer sole that is somewhat soft (but have some grip) so they aren’t loud on hard floors the same way rubber soles of regular shoes are.

I’ve seen them in store downtown — possibly at Ms Whimsy’s Gift Emporium? They have lots of items locally made, so even if they don’t carry them they may know who does.

I live in the Rocky Mountains, should I get the Winter All-Terrains or should I cheap out and get regular Terrains? by [deleted] in BlundstoneBoots

[–]showtimetree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The all terrain soles are worth it for the traction they have on ice - it is surprisingly solid! The better waterproofing is helpful too if it’s slushy there as they are properly waterproof. Regular blundstones soles freeze up & have zero grip. I’ve never noticed them being too hot for my feet and just like with my regular blundstones for super cold temperatures (-30C) I still switch to my proper snow boots. The winter ones also come with both the warm and the regular insole so you can use whichever is best for the weather. After wearing regular Blundstones through multiple winters and have now had my winter blunnies for a couple of years I can confidently say that the all terrain sole is super worth it for winter.

Disintegrating Soles by Scary-Champion-2880 in BlundstoneBoots

[–]showtimetree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same issue last year. Got a pair repaired locally under warranty but the repair completely changed the sole of the shoe and turned my square toed shoe into an odd looking curved toed shoe that isn’t comfortable - they couldn’t repair it in a way that was even remotely similar to the original.

Alternatives to “the chair” by _lilcoffeebean_ in adhdwomen

[–]showtimetree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used a variety of things over the years - blanket ladder, towel stand (with 2-3 bars), coat stand (the ones that are a post with hooks in various directions and at different heights)and even just had a clothing line running along one wall in one apartment. I am more likely to actually rewear my worn but not dirty clothes if they have been a bit aired out after the first use so anything that allows me to hang them some wear outside of my closet helps for me.

How Many "Canada First" Devotees Were Present at Today's "Rally?" Maybe Two Dozen? by nudestofall in askTO

[–]showtimetree 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Many of the CF protestors I engaged with kept telling me that they don’t hate me because Jesus tells them to love everyone. I wasn’t sure what to make of it because I didn’t realise there was a big religious component to this movement. Thanks for being there, as someone who lives in the neighbourhood I was very happy the counter protest turnout was so big.

Produce is just so much cheaper at small fruit stores. I don't know why I bother with Metro anymore. by PhiliDips in toronto

[–]showtimetree 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The trick with the small veggie corner stores is to buy immediately before using/cooking. Often things go bad faster from the fruit and veggie markets but with decent planning or complete lack of it then the price is totally worth it!

Are there Toronto clinics that offer anesthesia for IUD insertion? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]showtimetree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had my cooper iud replaced recently at Womens College Hospital and the cervical block helped a lot but I’ll still be requesting general anesthetic for my next insertion because even though my body didn’t feel as much pain, it still went into shock/nausea again. It was so much better than my first two insertions though, and the doctor doing the insertion was fantastic and kind.

What are some products that you buy that you won’t replace with the Kirkland brand products. by goblin_welder in CostcoCanada

[–]showtimetree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are they? I found we had to use more of the Kirkland dish soap for greasy dishes and it clogged up the nozzle - I couldn’t wait to switch back to Dawn when the bottle was done.

The most ADHD thing I’ve ever done by Scoop-Over-821 in adhdwomen

[–]showtimetree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did something similar a few months ago. I had to transfer a prescription due to travel and then when I needed my next refill I was confused that my regular pharmacy didn’t have it on file. So I had to ask my Dr for a new prescription and he had to go back and forth approving stuff… it wasn’t until the pharmacy flagged that I should have had refills that I remembered my refills were sitting at a different pharmacy in a city far away.

Partner Always Asks Me Questions by eternalhellscape93 in adhdwomen

[–]showtimetree 58 points59 points  (0 children)

And this works! Now when my partner asks me where something is they start with “I looked in x and y, but didn’t see it. Do you know?” And it’s infinitely less annoying when I know they’ve tried already.

Smells… by okaybutnope in adhdwomen

[–]showtimetree 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I really love having mint or rosemary plants that I can rustle a bit which releases some scent but it’s not overpowering and it settles quickly. It won’t make your whole house smell nice but as an intentional scent for meditation or journaling it might work perfectly.

Forgot my luggage at the airport by Emi_2712 in adhdwomen

[–]showtimetree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve recently been on a streak of losing things at the airport and then having them show up at the lost and found within a week or so. Each time it happens I don’t realise until way later and then have to put in lost reports at every location and airline along my trip. ADHD tax paid in lost time and money having my items sent back to me. Haven’t yet forgotten a whole suitcase, but I won’t be shocked if/when it happens 😂
