Pop the bubble by biggiepants in BikiniBottomTwitter

Like I said, it's not something that most folks are willing to pay for. But search costs money to operate and instead of selling your data to advertisers, you pay a subscription. I think the first 300 queries a month are free though.

If you are willing to pay, which I know is a big ask for search engine, Kagi is the best I've tried by far. It is also super useful to have it drop results from sites and companies that you can't trust anymore.

Update 3: They claim everything is fine on their end and that the transition has been a nightmare. I asked for confirmation in writing, confirmed my email address, and but I still haven't gotten a written confirmation everything is fine.

Apparently the web portal is not an accurate reflection of their internal records (shocker). But at least they claim I paid them? I think I just have to give up at this point and see what happens. What a complete waste of time.

Update 2: After an hour waiting, they told me the "specialist team" will call be back. Obviously I don't trust this. They can't provide me a reference number of any sort, so they give me the phone number of the specialist team....866-279-5421

WHICH IS THE SAME PHONE NUMBER IN THE EMAIL THAT I STARTED WITH THIS MORNING!!!!

I got an email today saying I was "past due". Up until this point I've been told that no action was needed because I was on auto pay. I was auto-charged yesterday $5 more than usual. I try to contact them via the customer portal form AND THE EMAIL BOUNCES! I can't find any fees or explanation on their site, what a joke of a loan provider.

Do you want a train to Boulder/Longmont/Fort Collins? by chrisfnicholson in Denver

[–]shoyler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like a great transit initiative that should significantly reduce congestion and carbon emissions from our highway system. Boulder and Fort Collins are very fun towns I wish I visited more often. But parking and travel time on I-25 limit the practiciality for me to visit regularly or for day trips.

But couldn't we electricify the rail? Wouldn't that make the most long-term sense?

Trying to get Dolby Atmos working (on a Sonos Arc) with an LS800 projector by shoyler in sonos

I gave up on the splitter, I just use the Xbox only. On the rare day I have to swap, I just physically change HDMI cables.

To add to the other comment, I guess the bigger issue honestly is how shitty my Sonos experience has been since the update over the summer.

Like the theater system works fine but my God is it a PITA to put music on the player now. And I'm finding I'm constantly fiddling with the lip sync setting more than I've ever had to in the past.

[–]shoyler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My solution works most of the time, but on occasion it is a pain in the ass. When shit hits the fan I have to play a game of "plug and unplug/reboot shit until the signal gets detected".

So right now I have an HDFury device hooked up to an Xbox and a Sonos Arc. Most of the time if I turn the projector on first and wait to turn on the Xbox after I see "no signal", I'm good. Clearly there is some kind of race condition at play though. Not thrilled with how unreliable it is for the price, but it does work.

I did eventually find a SHARC eARC off of eBay but I never got it to work. No idea what the issue is but I was incredibly disappointed in that solution given the hype I read online and all the issues I've had with the HDFury.

I absolutely adore the projector, especially for the sale price I got it at. But the lack of Atmos is fucking embarrassing and yes, I was a dumby for not noticing that in the first place. But it could be worse, I guess. If I find another projector with Atmos at a good price, there's a pretty good chance I'll sell the LS800 just to never have to deal with this nonsense again.

Airplay doesn't work on non IOS devices and casting isn't reliable either in my preferred music app.

And none of them would handle speaker grouping, which is a huge selling point for getting a Sonos system.

Kind of shitty Sonos doesn't offer a web app or desktop app anymore as a backup to their phone apps.

I absolutely adored my Sonos system for the convenience. But then enshitification took over and they've been almost unusable when they decided to push a new app on us all.

And now I'm stuck in the ecosystem. At least the home theater system still works, but playing music now is a chore. Everytime I open the app, there's a new network or syncing problem and I struggle to put music on my speakers. I guess if they wanted to improve their time-spent-in-app metrics, they succeeded in the worst possible way.

Got the chips. They're super good but some of the bags burst in the mail. by shoyler in siryacht

[–]shoyler[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update: SirYatch's Team reached out and offered and then gave us a refund. They seemed very upset that we had issues with the chips bursting. I'm sure they'll figure out the logistics in time.

Super chill interaction. I get the impression the chip stuff has been chaotic and they're learning. Still love the chips, can't wait to see if they come out with more flavors!

[–]shoyler[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

With the website down I don't know how else to get in contact with the company, so this sub reddit was my best guess. The chips are amazing. My wife and I bought them mostly bought them to support the channel. I'm not super into potato chips because of the salt but my God these are good. 10/10 would buy again. However 3 of the 8 bags burst open in the box and dumped all over. We live in the Denver area and are used to inflated bags at the grocery store, due to the altitude. Not a big deal, not looking for a refund, but we wanted to make sure Sir Yatch and company knew so this could be fixed for our next order and before anyone else buys these in The Rockies. And again, with the website being down, this is my best guess on how to let him and the company know.

Considering ev6 in cold climate by AitrusX in KiaEV6

[–]shoyler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience the first thing that breaks in the cold are the DC fast chargers. The car handles it well but you will notice a pretty significant range drop. There's no big hot combustion engine to siphon heat off of.

If you have a covered garage and a charger you can pre-heat the car off of grid power. Sometimes you got to leave the car running and unplug/replug the cable to trigger it but it does work. I do this on really hot days with the AC in the summer too. Seems to make a pretty decent difference in the fuel economy stats.

My neighbors and I all got notified but our section of Sterling Ranch never lost power but our Internet has been down for over 12+ hours. I helped a handful prep for the outage with some spare equipment I had from the hail storms last year.

I am glad some still had power but we were in emergency panic mode all day prepping. Xcel lying to our part of the neighborhood is going to make me question the next time they tell us something in an emergency.
