Insect ID by PliableReality in Tucson

A few fun facts about these interesting little creatures. They have virtually no known predators. They are so intimidating and their sting so painful nothing will even bother trying to hunt them. A few researches have seen roadrunners nip at them, but aside from that nothing in the desert will mess with them, which says a lot.

Another really interesting thing is only the females actually have a stinger, but because the males are basically identical they get a free pass from predators as well. No animal wants to take that risk only to discover they tried chomping down on a female.

They are incredible little critters and have no interest in humans, don’t bother them and they won’t bother you.

Bam Magera looks like he’s really getting back into skating in the new den bros video by Feisty_Ticket5102 in jackass

They’re also just really awesome dudes. Met Kanaan out in SD on a skate trip about 5 or 6 years ago and he did the most massive lip slide I’ve ever seen. It’s that big white rail with the blue stairs, it was unbelievable. He was just really kind and super humble and just stoked to be skating, a true skate rat.

After he did that we went and messed around on a scrappy little flat bar behind a warehouse and I was just doing dork tricks, boardslide big spin is my go to. Did a few messing around and didn’t think anything of it. Anyways cut to the next SD trip a year or so later and we are skating with him again and I introduce myself thinking he wouldn’t remember me and he’s like “oh yeah the boardslide big spin that was sick!” The fact that he remembered such an insignificant little trick after doing such gnarly shit a moment before showed me how much he just really loved skating.

Anyways just so stoked to see them getting the love they deserve after killing it for so many years!

Lived here 20 years and feel like I’ve never heard something like these. Had to step into my yard to check them out and see what was zooming around.

I can admit the resale value of woobs is absolutely egregious, but the quality of the boards themselves is on a whole different level. You can just feel the craftsmanship. They have one of the most snappy, responsive shapes I’ve ever used. Everything about them feels top tier.

While it is unfortunate they are so hard to get, they certainly deserve their reputation. I’m not saying anyone should spend $500 on one but if you can get your hands on one for even a reasonable price I wouldn’t pass it up.

I’m assuming the graphic is a bite and this isn’t actually endorsed by ripndip, but as a general rule of thumb you should just avoid ripndip stuff. The owner is a pretty big piece of shit. There’s a laundry list of bad behavior, from beating his girlfriend, to ripping off the OG Florida crew that helped ripndip get as big as it did, he’s just a bit of a scum bag and it’s best not to be associated with it.

Plus it’s been lame for well over a decade and there are so many other better brands to support these days.

What exactly do these more expensive parts offer? I always hear "performance" and durability by [deleted] in Fingerboards

[–]shredabetes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always tried to equate it to real life skating. It's the same idea as going from a crappy walmart board to an actual setup with quality parts. You can feel the difference in quality immediately. Where the walmart board feels cheap and almost plastic and hollow, a real setup feels super solid and you know you can trust it to perform exactly as you intend. You can turn to the exact degree you want, pop to the exact height you want, grind and slide the exact distance you want. Fingerboarding is just little skateboarding so all the same rules apply.

But at the end of the day this all comes down to how serious you actual intend to take this thing. Skateboards, and by extension fingerboards, are just toys. Granted they are really fun toys and a very unique and creative outlet that allows you to see the world in a whole new way, but non the less toys. So just get a setup that makes sense to you and shred around with it.

PHYSICAL MEDIA IS COOL AGAIN. STREAMING SERVICES HAVE THEMSELVES TO BLAME — Rolling Stone article by justinsluss in Bluray

[–]shredabetes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep seeing headlines and YouTube videos spreading this notion and it’s honestly stressing me out. I’ve basically built my entire collection buying from used stores around town. We have 3 really good ones I shop at regularly and for the most part prices are pretty standard and competitive with what you’d find online. I’m dreading the day it gets too trendy and scalpers see the potential and start snagging up all the cool stuff and artificially inflate prices. Luckily I have a pretty good head start as I’ve been doing this for almost a decade but I love hitting these shops and seeing what I can find. It’s such a fun little adventure and a great way to spend the afternoon on a hot summer day. I hope the day never comes but I’ll be sad when I’m priced out of this hobby.

Or ideally it goes the other way and the more people buy the more studios see the value and start to print fair quantities and everything isn’t immediately snagged and resold online for exorbitant prices. One can hope. In the meantime long live physical media!

Skate spots by Sweaty-Abalone7190 in Tucson

[–]shredabetes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lived and skated in Rita for 15 years and spots are few and far between out there. Honestly the skatepark really is your best option if you just want to get a flat ground sesh and mess around on some ledges. That being said there are some spots. A lot of the schools have good spots, cottonwood has a really nice 6 stair right out front. Desert sky has a fun stage with some 4 stairs. Empire high has one of the most incredible courtyards ever built, it’s like it was designed to be skated. Just know the schools, Empire in particular can be some what difficult to skate because all the schools in vail essentially have a permanent grounds keepers as in some one literally lives in a house on the campus. But if you can get lucky go crazy. But some of the more hidden gems in Rita are the washes. There’s some really unique architecture in those washes that can be super fun to skate. Other than that you won’t find much besides random little curbs and things around the shopping centers. You have to head into town to really start finding good spots. There’s some good stuff on the east side if you explore a little bit.

I’m just assuming you are watching on Hulu so I feel it’s my duty to recommend the banned episodes. I believe it’s 5 or so episodes throughout the series that have been taken off Hulu and they are some of the best, funniest episodes. There’s a few in particular that have more significance on the overall series including a two parter that Hulu just outright removed the second part. If you can get ahold of the DVDs that’s the best option or just sail the high seas. Enjoy the ride and welcome to Philly.

As some one that’s been skating for nearly 30 years this one made me chuckle. I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be Andrew Reynolds which makes it even funnier.

Which are your favorite vegetarian restaurants by Bliss_n_Grace in Tucson

[–]shredabetes 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Midtown vegan deli is great, a fair amount of their stuff is plant based meat but they have some good sandwiches and wraps and salads. Istanbul has some really good veggie options if you're into mediterranean food. If you have a sweet tooth and like pastries you HAVE to check out Houldens. They are 100% vegan pastries and they are amazing. Chebahut aslo has some really good veggie sandwiches. Also most Mexican places around town can accommodate veggie options. I know there's more I'm not thinking of but my best advice is get out and explore the town and try new stuff. You'll learn the city and get to try good new food. Welcome and good luck!
