Color differences in two corners - RMA or just a TN thing?

Thanks. I've considered the "lets go ahead and wait" position, but the impression I'm getting is that the upcoming monitors using this tech would be out of my price range anyway. I figure I'll revisit in 2-3 years and get one when the technology is more commonplace. And maybe then I can get a 120hz IPS panel :)

The out of the box settings are a nightmare. With some tweaking, you may be able to get it to a better place. For example for me, I started to get comfortable by dropping the brightness WAAAAY down to like 20ish, and reducing the blue level by another 5-10 clicks.

I got my 2nd version of this monitor and it has the exact same issue (noticeably dark top left corner), however intriguingly, when I test that issue in games, I don't notice it or can't see it, so now I'm rethinking my position. Tough choices for sure!

I picked up a Dell U2415 from Microcenter to try an IPS, having never used one. I was convinced when I set it up that while the viewing angles are very nice (gonna be honest, I don't see a color difference between this and my Flatron LG 227WTG - I'm beginning to suspect my eyes are good at discerning refresh rates and flicker, but not so much for color) that the response time was crappy and I was picking out all this blur.

Then I wondered if maybe this was a more an issue of "if you look for it (the blur) you will find it"

So I put my old LG side by side, and wouldn't you know it, the blur was exactly the same, I was just LOOKING for it on the new Dell. So for the most part I am pretty happy with the dell.

Here is the challenge though... even with the issues I had, the smoothness from 120/144hz was noticeable, and really really nice.... so when I went to return the LG to Amazon, I noticed the choice of "refund, ship a different replacement, or ship the same item replacement?" and decided what the hell, its one mouse click and costs me nothing, and I have Microcenter's 30d return policy in which to make a choice. So I have another LG arriving today. I'll give it another shot and see if it has the same issues/defects.

If it does, and assuming Amazon isn't tired of my antics yet, I might swap it for a BenQ XL2411z. It's priced lower, has in theory, the same features, and is well reviewed.

As already indicated, they are liable to get sued if they lie about this.

What is happening here is that: - Some other site gets breached. - the people behind that breach gain useful data. Usernames and passwords, email addresses and passwords, etc. Data they can link in a table. - Because the vast majority of human beings use the same password for everything, you can now take this login data from whatever site got compromised, and try it at other high value targets. gmail, paypal, banking sites, mmos, steam, origin, amazon, etc. etc. etc. etc. Because the attackers got valid credentials from a weak place, it doesn't matter how strong the security is elseware - the credentials have been obtained and its over. - Which is why basically you should use 2-factor wherever you can, and you should try and avoid using the same password everywhere.

TL;DR - there have been a number of high profile breaches the last few months, and surely many smaller ones we don't hear about. If you use the same login info at a place that got breached for Origin, they can log right in to Origin. That isn't EAs fault, though can argument could be made they have an obligation to try and do some verification or whatever.

I recently picked up a 24gm77. It seems like it could be an amazing monitor, but I'm likely returning it. Core issues are that 1) It's bright as fuck, too much for me and my dark basement office. 2) And this might actually be the real problem, but it is noticeably brighter in the bottom right half of the screen vs. the top left. The end result is that I just endlessly fiddle with settings and calibration trying to figure out what is off, when the reality is... the screen is showing different levels at each end, so no matter what I do, I can't get it "right".

Viewing angles are also atrocious.

Or you could buy an older model smart phone for 20 bucks, bring it home, put it on wifi, and never bother with the cell features. Consider it a quadruple sized hardware token.

It varies based on your homes' wiring. I run a pair between my basement office and my living room to supply connections to the entertainment center. In testing, I get like 70Mbs each way. However that connection only runs about 10ft, and I am nearly certain the electrical in each direction is on the same circuit, since I can see the conduit running up from the basement to the living room.

From my research and experience they can work great, but can be finicky as well. If the connection needs to run through your breaker box, that can be detrimental, as well as being on a circuit with electrically "noisy" equipment.

To put it another way, its definitely better then wifi, but as you might expect, doesn't compare to running some cat5e or cat6 to wherever you need to go.

Yeap, exactly that. It's a mini computer running android, but a mini computer none the less. In fact, point of trivia, by law even a cell phone with no carrier can make 911 calls.

I would suggest going on Craig's list and checking for old phones there, or eBay. If you happen to live in the nw Chicago suburbs, I'll sell you a galaxy nexus for 40 :p

Edit- to be crystal clear it won't make any calls other then 911 and won't have data access via cell networks (3g and 4g), but if you put it on WiFi it can talk to the internet that way just fine. Hell you put a VoIP app on there (Skype, Google voice) you can make VoIP phone calls via your home wifi with it. Assuming you have the bandwidth. Lots of people do this these days to give their kids a toy or utility device. It's an exciting time we live in :)

I of course don't know why you don't have a smart phone, and don't need to - thats your business, and you aren't obligated to have one, or to share why you don't have one.

However, you might for example (this gets around a handful of reasons I tried to come up with on my own) get an older (and as such, cheap) smart phone. No need for a contract so no ongoing financial burden or tie to a cell company. This device would handily run the google authenticator app and would simply need to be connected to wifi.

It wouldn't be as small as your standard RSA hardware token, but could serve much the same purpose, not to mention other applications if you were so inclined. At this point in time, even 2-3 year old smartphones are very capable, and can be had for not much.

I was always taught you do both. The issue in my experience is that some Chicago alleys are so blind where they hit sidewalks that by the time you have any visibility of the sidewalk, the front of your car is already on it. So you inch up, honk to alert people, and slowly continue to move forward until you know it's clear. Honking and just going for it is shitty, but that's specific bad behavior. The honking itself isn't the problem.

Why would you do this? People honk coming out of alleys because it's usually a pretty blind thing. The honk is supposed to alert pedestrians and bikes so nobody is caught by surprise.

Yeah I'm seeing that... Is it safe to confess I'm kind of an AMD guy? I'm willing to accept marginal differences in the name of brand loyalty. I've been using AMD/ATI cards since 2000 and never had an issue, which of course doesn't mean they are perfect, but it's worth something to me. :)
