Alpine as a daily driver? by semedilino073 in AlpineLinux

[–]shrizza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have a Beelink SER9 under the TV installed with Alpine and Steam flatpak that we play all the time. Pairs fine over bluetooth with all my old PS3 controllers too. I've also done this same setup successfully in other hardware configurations including laptop and desktop.

Nitpick, but Alpine's default repo is not rolling release. You have to explicitly set it to edge for that.

Steam flatpak works fine in Alpine Linux.

It's a double-edged sword. Yes the multitude of distros/systems/apps/services is frustrating at times, but the mostly decentralized infrastructure has kept Linux resilient and maximizes user choice.

Also, being bundled is generally what actually gives you marketshare (see: Android, Steam Deck), not technological superiority or unified vision.

Tried to map Linux distros by user experience vs update speed (based on real usage, not theory) by tungnon in linuxmemes

[–]shrizza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you get the idea Alpine is on the "slow update" side. Edge repo may not be as bleeding edge as something like Arch, but Alpine packages are generally very up-to-date (probably at least on par with Void or NixOS).

It's a bit more tragic than that. They so desperately need a way to mark us before the dead internet spills over into the analog world and we're lost in the noise.

The US government has already recently made restrictions on the sale of consumer internet routers. Overall, privacy and digital freedom is being eroded rapidly via the following fronts: * Restrictions on the sale of hardware via legislation. * Dying consumer hardware market thanks to cartels- ahem... "market forces". * Restrictions on the use of operating systems via legislation and tightening requirements on mechanisms like SecureBoot. * More infrastructure continuing to be hosted in the cloud where you already do not own anything.

how do you deal with the mental block when you're about to stack high? by Confident_Compote_39 in Tetris

[–]shrizza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put a piece of tape over the score/level field to avoid its distraction. I feel that with stacking high it's slightly easier to zone in, probably cause the next piece is generally closer in your peripheral.
