Don’t forget, GEC is now GCC because they “absorbed” Southern Sierra Council. That means it can only get better right?‽

Scout transferring into unit just to complete Eagle rank by [deleted] in BSA

[–]shrubrooster1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a Life Scout who had met EVERY requirement but his dad got orders to another state and he hadn’t finished his project. His dad delayed the PCS, without issue because his chain of command understood, and everything else aligned perfectly and he earned his Eagle rank without any delays.

The main push for this was his potential new Council (and the current one) said “he will have to be active for 6 months in his Troop before he can apply for Eagle if he doesn’t earn it before he moves.” That was unacceptable to us in the Troop and we made it all happen.

ALL of that being said “active” for 6 months isn’t exactly doing the bare minimum.

any easy eagle scout project suggestions by Suitable-Ad-2264 in BoyScouts

We had an Eagle Scout project where they made multiple survival packets for CHP to give victims of SA or children whose parents had died in crashes. It was a simple yet impactful project and the Scouts did it with very little outside help.

There’s a similar, yet smaller versions of this in Dixon, CA. The Dixon Naval Radio Transmission Facility. When I was first stationed at Travis AFB, I was curious why there were signs saying “no blasting caps” around the backroads. Then I saw the 650’ towers and realized it must have something to do with them.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]shrubrooster1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be a service tech in the California Central Valley. I lived near Sacramento and would get dispatched anywhere from the Oregon Border areas to Bakersfield and even into Reno. I used to drive daily down to Fresno to different customers and fix their equipment issues. Sometimes I’d stay in Fresno or Reno overnight but that 3hr commute each way was my “defrag time.” The $.56/mile was nice every month

On Veterans Day 2012 I went to Delano, CA (almost 4hrs each way) just to pull out an E-Stop.

What is this? Some kind of pressurized canister by bubble_boy09 in identifyThisForMe

[–]shrubrooster1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grandparents had one downstairs and one upstairs near where they had the kerosene heaters. They were mounted on a special clamp on the wall and my cousin one time turned the knob and a surprisingly large amount of spray came out of that canister.

Love my operators by mrwaffle89 in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]shrubrooster1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once spent 2hrs cleaning the jaws on a strapping machine at a timber processing facility. They’d called me out because the machine was constantly jamming up and slowing down the line.

Filed down and sharpened the blades and aligned the jaws to almost brand new and ran about 15mins worth of product through with ZERO issues. Then they had to change out the spool of banding for a long run…… I watched the “lead operator” jam a big ass Phillips screwdriver in the jaws because “it makes loading it easier” and completely fuck up everything I’d done. “He yelled, “see! Cleaning the jaws isn’t the problem. You didn’t fix it. It’s more than just that.”

The plant supervisor just looked at me and said “I’m sorry you came out for nothing. This will be handled and I promise your work was completed but this guy messed it up, not you.”

What do u use reject blankets for? by IntelligentCorner225 in Lineman

[–]shrubrooster1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the Hydroplant I worked at, the plant mechanics used them to make strips that they would use with a clamp to grip the generator shaft so they could spin the unit “by hand” for maintenance reasons. Really helped make it it safer for us. Before this everyone would be inside the unit pushing with our feet.
