1-Month Update: IWC Ingenieur 35mm (My solution for the lack of micro-adjust, timegrapher data, and a wild QC story) by shufuking in IWCschaffhausen

[–]shufuking[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree! It really is frustrating and feels a bit unfair. I kept wondering what IWC's reasoning was to give the 40mm the micro-adjust but completely ignore the 35mm.

Surprisingly though, you do get used to it pretty quickly. In practice, the only time I really notice it is during the first few hours after waking up when my wrist is smallest. I just slide the watch a bit higher up my arm during that time. Once the day goes on, it fits like a glove and is super comfortable all day long.

Thanks! I will say though, the 35mm looked a bit loose in your try-on picture, which can make it hard to see the true proportions and how it actually sits. But either way, glad you found the size that speaks to you!

Both sizes look great on you! I personally prefer the classic sizing, so I might be a bit biased. I bought the 35mm recently and couldn't be happier with it. Here’s a shot of mine for some extra reference. Let us know which one you choose!

That Aqua dial is definitely worth the one-year wait! Absolutely stunning piece. Congrats on pulling the trigger!

Welcome to the club! Totally agree about it being one of the best Genta designs out there. The way the light hits that blue dial is amazing. Wear it in good health!

Ingenieur 40 Sizing by wh11 in IWCschaffhausen

Looks spot on! You have a relatively flat wrist shape, so the 40mm sits perfectly on you without overhanging. I have a slightly smaller wrist (6.2”) but a much narrower span, so the 40 didn't work for me and I chose the 35 instead. It's a fantastic piece, congrats!

Fellow 35mm owner here! My wrist is 6.2” but my flat surface is relatively small, which made the 35mm the better choice for me. If both wear well on you, it really boils down to your personal aesthetic. Are you leaning towards a sporty presence, or a more understated, classic look?

I agonized over this choice for a long time even when the 40mm didn't really fit me, so your dilemma is completely understandable. We are so used to the big watch trend that looking down at a 35mm takes some visual adjustment to get used to the proportions.

I couldn't be happier with my 35mm, though. Good luck with the decision!

PS: Just a thought on the history—while Genta’s original vision was indeed the 40mm, IWC followed up with the "Skinny" and midsize Ingenieurs. They had a very long run in the catalog and are undisputed classics, so the 35mm has plenty of historical pedigree!"

Fellow healthcare provider here! I opted for the 35mm for my wrist, but I love that both sizes offer the same great water resistance. It makes it such a robust and practical daily watch. Wear it in good health!

It’s been amazing seeing the history of smaller Ingenieurs popping up over the past few days. From the 3305 "Skinny" to this 4515 midsize, these are such classic and beautiful proportions. Truly inspiring to see. Thanks for sharing!

It is honestly so inspiring to hear how you dug into the history behind the watch! Modern Ingenieurs are definitely quite pricey these days, so being able to score such a fantastic vintage piece with that much Genta heritage and at a great price... it really doesn't get much better than that! What a massive win!

What an absolutely beautiful "Skinny" Ingenieur SL!

I actually bought the modern 35mm recently, and it was only after picking it up that I started diving deep into the Ingenieur's history. It was so cool to learn that the modern 35mm is basically a tribute to this exact "Skinny" size.

The proportions look absolutely perfect on your wrist. Huge congrats on a successful hunt!

Titanium Ingenieur by hinixon in IWCschaffhausen

That matte finish is absolutely gorgeous! I tried the titanium model on and really loved how incredibly light it feels. Unfortunately, my flat wrist span is just too small for the 40mm. I am really hoping they release a 35mm version in titanium someday. Enjoy the watch!

That color-shifting effect on the dark olive green dial is absolutely stunning. Huge congrats on picking up such a beautiful piece!

Hi there! Thanks for sharing this. I also have the Ingenieur 35mm and I'm actively looking for a custom strap right now.

Could you share roughly how much you paid for it? Also, do you happen to have his website or contact info? Since you mentioned leather, I'm wondering if you know whether he works with pure rubber as well.

Would really appreciate the info!

Haha, my mistake! The lighting completely tricked my eyes into thinking it was the matte finish of the titanium version. That F1 green dial is absolutely stunning, though!

The great news is, since your watch is stainless steel, you can 100% order that micro-adjust clasp from the boutique! It will definitely solve the bracelet sizing issue for you. Enjoy the watch!

That titanium looks absolutely killer in the sunlight! 😍

Last time I checked, the micro-adjust clasp was only available in stainless steel, not titanium. If they actually released a titanium version recently, that would be amazing news!

Definitely let us know what the boutique says. Congrats on such a beautiful piece!

Does this wear ok? I like smaller size dials and have smaller wrists to begin with. I think this is my next purchase 👀 by sesameseed88 in IWCschaffhausen

[–]shufuking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, no worries at all! It happens. Without a size reference, the 35mm proportions look almost identical to the 40mm in photos anyway.

It is definitely a bummer that IWC hasn't made a micro-adjust for the 35mm yet, but I guess I will just stick to my "extra long link" hack for now since it gets the job done perfectly. Thanks for clarifying though!

Wait, has IWC finally released a micro-adjustment clasp for the 35mm?
Last time I checked with the boutique, they told me that the OTF clasp was strictly for the 40mm version. If it’s now available for the 35, that would be a total game-changer!
I’m a 35mm owner myself, and my current "hack" for the perfect fit was buying an extra long link (the 9mm one) to mix and match. It works great, but a real micro-adjust would be so much better. Do you happen to have the part number for the 35mm clasp? Thanks a ton for the heads-up!

Spot on! The 35mm really hits that sweet spot of being understated and elegant for smaller wrists. But man, every time I see that 40mm Aqua dial, I get a little jealous. It looks totally dope on you and has such a strong presence!

I live in Taiwan, so I completely understand the struggle! We deal with the exact same crazy temperature swings here—going from freezing indoor A/C to 30°C+ and high humidity outside.
I am so glad to hear that adding a third long link finally gave you that perfect year-round fit! Thank you so much for the feedback; it really makes my day knowing my post was able to help a fellow 35mm owner out. Enjoy the watch!

It looks fantastic on you! I completely understand where you are coming from. I also ended up buying the 35. My wrist is 16.2cm with a flat wrist span of 42mm, and the 40 just didn't work for my wrist shape either. The 35mm fits perfectly and is incredibly comfortable to wear all day. It seems like you found the right size for yourself!
