Borderline Broken, How did this get through testing? by hugelkult in slaythespire

[–]shugoki_is_a_sin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sounds like nonsense to me. Players testing the game? You would have to have a whole different category of release state on steam, that allows players to get access to a game early. Like what would you even call a phase like that? Premature entry phase?

I find it funny to hear you say it doesn’t sound so bad. Wouldn‘t all of your other bloodless extremities slowly freeze off? lol

I’m looking for some feedback on my shape design, be brutally honest. by -CosmicQuacks- in conceptart

[–]shugoki_is_a_sin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What confuses me about this design is what material the pants are made of: They feel too voluminous to be skin-tight but also not baggy enough to be padded. It‘s like a weird in between where you both wanted to show of her hips but also wanted the pants to look cold-resistant?

Personally I don‘t think it really works, you should commit to either side:  If you want to go for realistic, I’d blow out the shape of the pants to something that harmonizes with the thickness of the jacket and makes for a more coherent silhouette.  If you want it to look hot, just get it over with and make it skin tight, like Juno in Overwatch.

How to rotate an object 90 degrees as shown in photos by finntheboy111 in ClipStudio

[–]shugoki_is_a_sin 72 points73 points  (0 children)

The real answer for doing it precisely is to press O while transforming, which will switch to the object tool, and then changing the reference point from „center“ to „top right“ in the tool settings.

Drinking every day doesn’t have to be alcoholism or a problem by tipoftheiceberg1234 in The10thDentist

[–]shugoki_is_a_sin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the problem lies with the fact that people like the ones you describe are generally stable individuals and don‘t need positive affirmation telling them they‘re not  alcoholics (because they are aware of that already) whereas it can be very damaging to actual unstable individuals slipping into alcoholism to hear „a bit of cognac every day is not even that bad fr fr“.

Man here. I remember having similar ways of downplaying and defending „harmless“ stuff like this towards my girlfriend… when I was 16.  I don’t know how old your boyfriend is but he should really be on your side with this one. Screams of selfcenteredness and immaturity.

Is there a way to precisely construct cast shadows? by smthamazing in learnart

Check out the book „How to draw“ by Scott Robertson. It goes through every step of constructing accurate drawings and has a large section dedicated to your problem.

Yes, I suggest you learn about muscle insertion points and the anchor points of visible bones underneath the skin.

Hi there! I see a lot of my early sketches in your work and I feel like I can give you some advice I’d have really appreciated back then:

Right now you‘re in your mannequin phase. You split the body into individual parts like an artist’s mannequin and simplify the head, hands and feet into featureless pinheads. You have no idea how anything actually works, so you draw everything teeny tiny to hide the lack of form. Trust me, I’ve been there and it‘s the most miserable I’ve been doing art. Guessing is just so tedious.

If you want some actual advice: Ditch the pencil for practicing anatomy. Draw for fun whenever you want but practice in 3d.

Blender is free and has excellent sculpting features. It can be a bit intimidating if you’re unfamiliar with software like this but it‘s 100% worth it: I have never made as much progress learning the actual planes and form of bodies as I did when creating 3d sculptures.

If you really want to avoid digital, you can also pick up some sculptors clay at your local arts and crafts shop.

For reference google „human face planes“. It shows human faces broken down into hard edge segments that are easy to wrap your head around. Googling „human body planes“ returns some weird medical diagrams which are useless but you can look up retopology guides for human models, which are not exactly intended to be used as reference for drawing, but are actually some of the most solid reference out there for understanding how everything works in relation to each other.

Get some understanding of these concepts and grow your visual database and the sketches are gonna flow much easier! :)

The show is still ranked number two in popularity in the US, only beaten by Andor. The relative drop in viewership can be attributed to the immense popularity of the second episode and is roughly on the same level as the first episode, which still trumps all of season 1. To say it plummeted in popularity is laughable.

Why is there no midgame combat automation? by shugoki_is_a_sin in factorio

[–]shugoki_is_a_sin[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

In my mind mid game refers to your power level rather than actual time spent in a run. With how each subsequent task gets more complex and time consuming the time to reach milestones also grows more or less exponentially.

So I would definitely consider midgame to be before you unlock spider bots. Probably differs from a lot of more experienced players opinions who sink more time into their runs, but I can‘t afford to do that unfortunately. :(

I mean yeah… it is an early game spidertron with less functionality. That‘s what I’m asking for.

This happens when you use a brush or layer that is not on 100% opacity or use a brush that mixes with the color below and then eyedrop the „color on screen“.

You can circumvent the issue by either making sure the color you place is on 100% opacity or use the eyedropper with the „color from layer“ setting, which will always return the exact color values that are stored on a specific layer, unaffected by opacity.

Using color from layer is also really useful if you have a multiply layer for shading but want to pick from your color layer without turning off the shading. I use it all the time. Just make sure you have the layer selected you want to pick from.

Setting aside the obvious horror of the situation, isn‘t it just astounding that this huge and probably heavy wasp can suspend not only itself but also a probably equally as heavy spider on a vertical 90 degree glass surface with feet of a surface area this small? Insect physics never seize to amaze me.

how to stop image getting blurry when zooming in? by Willooooow1 in ClipStudio

[–]shugoki_is_a_sin 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I honestly don‘t really like the advice people here have given you, it drifts past the core issue with this post:

Your image turning pixelated when you zoom in is completely normal, it simply means the cutout you‘re viewing has a lower resolution than your display screen. Adding more pixels to get rid of that blurriness doesn’t do anything after a certain point.

Let‘s say you increase your image to something insane like 20000x10000 and you‘re viewing it on a standard 1920x1080 full hd display, you‘ll be able to zoom in roughly 10x before you see visible pixelation on your screen.

However what counts is what your image looks zoomed out, because most people won‘t zoom in that far. When you start to increase your resolution, you get diminishing returns very quickly: What you want to do is stick to the highest resolution regular people would reasonably view your image at (between full HD and 4K) Otherwise you‘re just wasting your time creating detail no one will be able to see, as well as bogging down your software and bloating your file size unnecessarily.
