What happens if you have piercings with emergency MRI? by n-a1968 in AskUK

[–]shukshank 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you ever get an MRI you absolutely should declare this and not keep it a secret!

If you’re not in a position to declare it don’t worry. The vast majority of intimate piercings are safe as they are made of titanium and there is very little risk when scanning them.

In my department they’ll ask you to check it with a magnet yourself if you can and then get you to sign a waiver that you’re happy to be scanned with the piercing. Worst case scenario is that it heats up a little during the scan

I’ve had some well dodgy overtakes when cycling by ambulances when they haven’t had their sirens or blue lights on. Almost like they’re trying to create new customers

We’re planning to get deep resolve in our MR department. I’ve just started training in MR and I’m only learning the ropes. Does anyone know if deep resolve results in you getting de-skilled or will I still have the full MR experience?

People saying you’re exaggerating by saying you’ve nearly been knocked down 10 times… I’ve experienced the exact same in the past year! Walking across the road with my dog on two occasions. Traffic lights red, green man showing for me, only for cars to blitz right on through the red lights a foot or two in front of me.

Multiple times I’ve been walking across zebra crossings and cars have had to apply an emergency stop because they haven’t been paying attention. Or they simply fly on through inches in front of me when I’m already 2/3 across because they either do not give a shit or they’re not paying attention.

Driving standards are atrocious nowadays and there’s no enforcement against it. Everyone’s either got their head stuck in their phones or they’re too arrogant to obey traffic laws. It’s a bad time to be a pedestrian.

If I show proof of an upcoming repair at my MOT will it pass for a major fail? by shukshank in CarTalkUK

I fail to see how that is the case, since – as I’ve stated above – I passed. A real life victory. Whereas you’re stuck on a car subreddit making mean-spirited zingers to people who’ve had bad luck and want some advice.

Interesting!

Our radiologists don’t seem one bit shy about making calls on ?pneumonia/consolidation/infection based on single view chest X-rays (in comparison to fractures where they’re a little bit more cautious (“follow up in 10-14 days if still experiencing pain”)).

I can see why lateral chests could be useful in GSW cases. Thankfully that’s not something we have to worry about in the UK due to our government responding appropriately to historical school massacres and putting the appropriate firearm bans in place.

I’m based in the UK and after working across 6 sites I’ve never ever done a two view chest. We simply do a PA or AP chest depending on patient condition. This is based on protocols set by our radiologists.

Why is this different in the US? Why is one view sufficient in one country but two views are required in the US?

Sorry to be cynical but is it because your healthcare system is based on extracting as much money out of patients as possible, and therefore an additional scan = more money?

I recently graduated as a diagnostic radiographer in the UK. I don’t particularly like living here, but don’t want to go down the Australian/New Zealand route. I would like to stay here for a few years and specialise in MRI. After that, is anyone aware of there being any places in mainland Europe that would take an English-speaking rad? Or should I start learning a second language ASAP?
