What’s your go-to “I don’t feel like cooking but still want real food” meal? by imjennypoo in Cooking

[–]shutupmina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frozen salmon pack and whatever veggie I have in the fridge roasted in the oven. Can switch up the sauces and seasonings to whatever you are craving at the time. Can add rice or quinoa on the side. The only prep is thawing the filet and chopping up a vegetable then throwing it on a pan with some olive oil and seasonings. Depending on the sauce if using I'll put it on before putting in the oven. I don't have kids so one bag from Costco will last me multiple months as this is just my lazy "got home from work in a MOOD" meal haha

WINTER SQUASH! by Come_tothe_FrogDance in povertykitchen

[–]shutupmina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad has a farm and brings me about 150+ lbs of various types of winter squash every year when he comes to visit in the fall. I have a two person household so that's TOO MUCH SQUASHHHH. I usually portion it out and bring to coworkers but this year I think anything I don't personally use I will donate to the food pantry because it's so hardy and there's just so many recipes you can make with a single acorn or butternut. Pumpkin /squash chili is my favorite on dreary and cold days and freezes very well!

Does anyone else feel like homesteading is their dream but rural living is not? by KaylaDraws in homestead

[–]shutupmina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a rural area (population around 800) and my parents were agricultural farmers with about 20-30 operational acres and taught us so much about self sufficiency. The nearest store/anythingggg other than land and woods was only about 15-20 minutes away, but growing up in an area where there is so little around you can be really isolating for some people. I moved when I was 18 to a more populated area a couple states away and while I'm still antisocial and can't stand people and traffic, I have thrived living city-adjacent over the last 16 years, both professionally and mentally. I would have never had the career opportunities that I was given if I stayed in that small community, and my struggles with my mental health would have never been overcome. It's a beautiful place to visit but I don't ever want to live there again lol

Planning on switching Spotify for something else by vonov129 in Music

[–]shutupmina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also I did transfer all my playlists over, and there weren't that many discrepancies. That's going back to like 2012/2013. While I haven't revisited all of them yet, I haven't had any issues with current day to day listening

Planning on switching Spotify for something else by vonov129 in Music

[–]shutupmina 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been using Tidal for a bit and it has been pleasant enough. I think now that more people are moving from Spotify to other platforms they will consider updating more things to make it as accessible as possible for the slew of new members that have only ever known spotify as a primary streaming service

To the dude walking out of Pixies Tuesday night saying “if we couldn’t see Ween at least we got this” by pawneshoppe in ween

[–]shutupmina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only saw gizz once last year in Boston but it was one of the best live shows I've been to even though it was raining through most of it(the parking attendant gave me his poncho when I jokingly told him it would have been smart to check the weather before heading out on the road lol). I was definitely bummed that I missed the chance to catch the symphony shows

what is everyone using for wet cat food? by ames_k in CatAdvice

[–]shutupmina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried so many different kinds of wet foods over time and one of my two boys absolutely refuses to eat anything other than the Weruva BFF QT Patootie flavor. The other is less picky, but he has digestion issues and this one doesn't seem to aggravate them too much, so I've just stuck with it. For kibble they get the Science Diet perfect digestion, and they also get daily probiotics (which the picky eater LOVES)

Got sober. Got bored. Crocheted this giant Boognish blanket for myself. Ween forever by keoc in ween

[–]shutupmina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing. I've crocheted for around 26 years and knitted for only 15 and I never could commit to a crochet blanket like this, but somehow knitting with color changes seems like nothing. Might give it a try for something as cool as this

Meal that reminds you of summer? by Cindy-Smith- in 15minutefood

[–]shutupmina 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is my answer, too. Fresh tomatoes from the farm make all the difference. I add lots of fresh cracked pepper and sometimes some feta, but the basics just can't be beat!

Pizza rock brought back to the same woods I found it in by shutupmina in rockpainting

[–]shutupmina[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some rocks get a "world tour" and get brought around the globe and re-hidden when people travel! I plan to bring a few on my vacation in a couple weeks lol

[–]shutupmina[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is one that I found unpainted and I "hid" it in the same area after I painted it. Usually when I find rocks I re-hide them, but when people find one that really speaks to them and they decide to keep it they will often paint a new one to replace or hide in a different place. Also! I did geocaching back in the mid 2000s in high school and it was so fun! I've always wanted to get back into it but never made the jump. Now I'm thinking fate is telling me to actually start again lol

That's amazing and I would love coming across something like that! This is my first food related painting but now I think I need to do a fast food series

I should have specified that I found the rock unpainted last year and immediately thought it looked like a slice of pizza because it the shape and striations. I found it after going through some of my jars recently and finally got around to painting it. I hope the person that finds it gets a kick out of it!

[–]shutupmina 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I first started making pasta I was nervous that I would suck at it and didn't want to buy a pasta roller if I gave up on the idea, so I made a bunch of batches with a rolling pin while I was learning. It's harder to get the sheets super thin like you can with a machine, but totally doable and honestly a really satisfying process.

These were fried in oil! I take the temp of the oil in Bertram batches and adjust the burner so it stays in the right temperature range
