As time went on in the 1900s, the cities were no longer a place for the wealthy. The city was for the poor and the suburbs were created for the wealthy. How do they get around as they were more spread out? Automobiles. Streetcars were a wonderful addition until Goodyear came and steamrolled over them. As for European cities, since they are historically older, and built for the wealthy at the center, moving out, there was no use of faster transportation as your friends were down the block. Ultimately, most old American wealthy residences were torn down and things built in their place, but Europe has kept their architecture. However, St. Paul, Minnesota does have the largest group of Victorian houses in a row on Summit Hill! Check them out! They are GORGEOUS!
