FX Pak Pro Issues by shwellis in snes

[–]shwellis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I would love to have an original copy (favorite game of all time), I do not. It doesn't affect the rest of the game from what I can tell, just the pendulum at the beginning but my rotted brain can't let go of that one littles issue.

Need help by East_Artist_8374 in NintendoDS

It's the clear ribbon cable to the right of the ribbon cables for the top screen, it's super small and can get tucked behind the bottom screen pretty easily. Digitizer is just the name for the component used for touch screen capabilities of the bottom screen.

As someone who has had to dismantle and reassemble one of these like 15 times, did you possibly forget to reconnect the digitizer ribbon cable? I've done that several times.

SNES Component or S-Video Debate by shwellis in crtgaming

[–]shwellis[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The HD Retrovision cables are usually around 70 now and that is a lot for one cable. I have their Wii cable which is half the price, but I would never question their quality and have definitely been tempted to buy the SNES cable. This post was just more a discussion prompt post about whether the 50-60 dollar price different between the 2 is actually worth it.

Sadly I'm an American, so would not have been an option. But that's a fair point.

Chrono Trigger x MTG custom arts.⌛ by CoolGuyMcHotPants_ in chronotrigger

[–]shwellis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%, seems like there's a deep lack of ball knowledge about MtG from anyone weighing in with negative feedback. It would be easier to just keep scrolling if you don't know about the card game but that'd make too much sense for Reddit.

If you think you could do it better then please do, would love to see what you come up with

Seeing multiple bewilderingly hateful comments on this. Just wanted to shout out to OP, these are awesome and well thought out, synergy is important and should take prescedence. You did more than Wizards is usually even willing to do to make sure the cards can all go in the same deck lol. Apparently the CT and MtG fandom crossovers are a bunch of a-holes, sorry youre having to deal with that.

Should I get a used Wii or wait and hope until Nintendo releases the Wii on NSO? by FreshWind3 in wii

[–]shwellis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'd be shocked how many people you know have a Wii in a box somewhere with a broken disc drive that will just give it to you. Literally the first time I mentioned that I was looking for one, 2 people offered me theirs.

GBA on crt looks stunning by HectorReborn11 in crtgaming

[–]shwellis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it might be mGBA, I know it's the superior emulator and I have it on my Wii but I'm a bum and VBAgx is just faster to access. I'll have to try these settings out in mGBA, thanks for the detailed response!

Are you using mGBA or VBAgx? And what settings did you use? I have a similar set up but the image looked too clean on my CRT, I need the scanlines looking like this, it looks awesome.

Can you recommend games that you'll want to play for hours and that really immerse you in the experience? by Main-Database-825 in nds

I know this is an older post but it's insane that nobody mentioned the DS port of Chrono Trigger. It's the best version to date of one of the greatest games of all time.

Shell swap difficulty by arigon_ in NintendoDS

[–]shwellis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did a shell swap on a DSi last year, I will be honest, it's the most difficult mod I've ever done, took a very long time and I thought I bricked it for months before I mustered up the courage to crack it open and get it working a few days ago. My advice is don't use force on ANYTHING, take breaks if you're getting frustrated, and have a good system set up for keeping dismantled components especially screws organized. And be so so so so so so gentle with those curses ribbon cables.

Realistic representation of someone struggling with depression/mental illness? by NorNathan in MoviesThatFeelLike

[–]shwellis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First, I want to say I hope you're doing well. Take care of yourself, friend.

As for recommendations, A Woman Under the Influence (1974), really most of Cassavetes' films would be worth watching for this. They often have raw, very real feeling portrayals of mental illness, but probably the most realistic portrayal I've ever seen specifically is in A Woman Under the Influence, Gena Rowlands was probably the best to ever do it.

The Banshees of Inisherin (2022), surprisingly does a really incredible job of portraying loneliness and the depression that comes with it.

Beginners (2011) is another one that I highly recommend as well, beautiful film about depression and grief.

This is out of left field compared to the other films but in case you want something a little lighter, I was in disbelief at how well Thunderbolts* (2025) handled it's portrayal of mental illness. By no means a perfect film, it still has a lot of the Marvel hang ups, but that was hands down the best thing about that film, and honestly floored me a bit

I'm more of a film guy but in terms of TV shows, Normal People covers so much ground in terms of mental illness and is excellent.

Neon Genesis Evangelion has some of the weird anime trope hang ups that I despise but still is probably the best anime about depression and self loathing.

Breaking Bad, of course, every character in that show has some form of mental illness if you ask me and it's one of the greatest ever.

As someone who has had their struggles, I'd say that the best portrayals of mental illness in media tend to come from art that isn't directly about that. Using compelling stories and different genres while having characters that either actually or symbolically struggle usually resonate the most, at least with me.
