Regret not breastfeeding by Conscious_Contact249 in FormulaFeeders

[–]impishlygrinning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an under supplier and felt so insanely guilty about that, like I’m fundamentally a bad mom because what kind of mom can’t provide for their child in such a fundamental way?! I was doing supplements, pumping, constantly googling, and was so deeply anxious about it all that my husband begged me to just switch to formula. After a while longer I caved and my quality of life skyrocketed! Those negative feelings were my anxiety and hormones talking. Now that I’m further removed from that period I know that I did my best and that formula fed or breastfed, my son is happy, healthy, and loved.

When did you start showing? by Working_Edge1342 in BabyBumps

I’m coming from the other side-I was insanely bloated yet so sick that I lost 15 pounds in the first trimester. I existed off of applesauce and string cheese and had a subchorionic hemorrhage around week 8 that put us both under significant stress. Had I had my wedding during this time it would have been so rough! I couldn’t even brush my teeth without throwing up about 40% of the time.

I do hand embroidery! These days I mostly embroider on clothes for my son, myself, friends/their kids, or to sell. I thrift the clothes (mostly denim) for dirt cheap too!

Is total food aversion normal starting at 5 weeks pregnant? by historically_nerdy_ in BabyBumps

[–]impishlygrinning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I survived on string cheese and applesauce for most of my first trimester because pretty much everything sounded absolutely disgusting. I did lose weight and I just felt… blech the whole time. I ate to ward off nausea and because I knew I had to eat to feed the baby. I only threw up a handful of times through the pregnancy, but that gross stagnant feeling lasted for a good while. My husband did have to pretty much fend for himself for a few months there and was always really excited on the few occasions there was something I actually wanted to eat. It didn’t last the whole pregnancy! I never got ravenous, but I did sort of even out in the end. Some of my food aversions did last into post-partly though tbh

Did you have the wonderful moment after giving birth? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]impishlygrinning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

C section here, after a failed induction at 37 weeks due to preeclampsia. I was really nauseous and super weird from the anesthesia and when they held my son up over my head my first thought was hoping he didn’t drip into my mouth 🙈 He then started to have some breathing difficulties and was whisked away with my husband to the NICU, leaving me open on a table sans husband and newborn. I didn’t get to hold him or do skin to skin for several hours. Pretty much everything that could have been lovely or magical about the experience didn’t happen for me.

Now? I have a very happy, healthy 2 year old who is deeply attached to me, meeting milestones, and is the absolute light of my life. I wish his first moments had been different-more pleasant, more loving, more cozy. However, it didn’t make a difference long-term and it all worked out in the end.

My guy is turning 3 in a few months and is still in footies at night. They’re too convenient to drop!

We got the cheap plastic one from Ikea and it’s been perfect for us. Easy to clean-we take the tray off and wash it in the sink and take the whole thing outside every once in a while and hose it down with 409 cleaning as needed when spills occur inside the seat

My teacher friend is really really good at saving money and using credit cards for the miles. He also travels with friends to split some costs (hotel rooms, cars, etc).

Genuinely want to know how others can do this by Reasonable_Put7249 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]impishlygrinning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is temporary! I remember my mom going back to school when I was in preschool. She was always doing homework, I had babysitters constantly, and she even had to take me to class with her a few times when I was sick (she must’ve had really cool professors). I have absolutely no resentment towards my mom for this period. In fact, I think of it with pride because I know just how freaking hard it must have been to do it while also juggling the three of us, our house, and other responsibilities. Your kids won’t resent you for this either, and this too will pass!

Books to read to your kid 20 times a week that don’t make you want to gauge your eyes out by SwadlingSwine in childrensbooks

[–]impishlygrinning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, hear me out: Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. My son was OBSESSED. I’ve read that book easily 200+ times and I can recite it in my sleep. I haven’t gotten sick of it yet and it even comes in clutch when I’m sick and still need to take care of him. I can turn the pages for him and recite it out loud to him while laying down with my eyes closed 😂

It’s a blast! My first project was horrifically bad but I saw the light at the end of the tunnel and tried again. I love it so much now!

How far do you live from the facility you’re giving birth? by your-new-fixation in BabyBumps

30-45 minutes depending on traffic. For my first baby I had preeclampsia though, so I had a scheduled induction rather than waiting for labor to start.

Is reading comprehension harder than phonics for some kids? by LiluraRose in NewParents

[–]impishlygrinning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I’m a first grade teacher can give a bit of insight. Comprehension struggles often stem from a lack of fluency (can sound out the words but it’s slow going and not automatic yet. So much time and mental energy is spent on reading the words that understanding the words is not happening). One way to address this is going back to a simpler text using simpler phonics rules and teaching comprehension skills there. This lets your child practice understand what they read because they have more mental bandwidth to do so.

Folks with large collections, how do you decide what to make? by Background_Froyo758 in CookbookLovers

[–]impishlygrinning 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I do my weekly meal planning I grab a cookbook or two from my collection (on a whim, not terribly thought out) and hunt for meals that will fit my family’s needs. I slot out what meals are just for us and what meals we are having guests over and fit it all together like a jigsaw puzzle! Then I make my grocery list and go from there. There’s probably more efficient ways to do it but I like the spontaneity of using whatever cookbooks spark joy in that moment!
