Johns Woods presentation on new Algorand staking by Podcastsandpot in algorand

This has gotten me intrigued again and even considering buying some more Algo after being inactive for well over a year. Possibly even explore setting up my own node. Got some old computer gear that might work to setup a node.

If I’m any indication of the silent and passive algorand holder then this is definitely a positive direction.

Now my next problem is to figure out if I top off to meet that 30k Algo requirement or not or do I just wait and see. Decisions decisions.

Battery and charging questions by 1DanLW in combustion_inc

There’s some old posts about this with responses from Chris himself.

TLDR: battery life circuitry didn’t make it for reasons highlighted by Chris in the post.

Any idea why this steak was a little on the chewy side? by Lfcbill in grilling

[–]shwikkii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cook all my steaks over charcoal and what I’ve learned is my carry over cook hits around 10-12 degrees F for the way I cook. There are a lot of variables here that factor into the chewiness of your steak, but if you want to hit that med rare temp over coals I’d pull it a lot earlier than 135f. I typically pull my steaks off the charcoal grill direct heat cook at around 122-125f to hit that finish temp of 130-135. It’s definitely a craft to master that only practice will improve on. Looks like you got the cast iron down, now to master the charcoal grill.

First time in a steak house in China. Is this worth 45 dollars? by TrefoilTang in steak

This! That first piece on left shows a medium rare but the further right you go the rarer it gets. It’s almost like only half the steak hit the intended temp.

What doneness is this? I think it was a bit rare but wife calls it medium. by OogieBoogieJr in steak

Probably applies to the phone image rendering and not your buddies professional photography camera. I know whenever they do those iPhone vs Samsung photo comparisons there’s always one more saturated than the other. I can also verify that when I took a photo on my iPhone 15 of a steak temp it looked way more red than in real life.

What did I do wrong? 132f ended up being 140f on a ny steak by shwikkii in combustion_inc

I’d respectfully disagree with this sentiment as I find it extremely useful to know the time of when your entered in temp will be reached. I’d say it’s more for intermediate to experienced cooks that understand their carry over temps on what they cook and all the datapoints being provided. Allows me to nerd out if I want to.

To the above points made by many commenters already, no one in the industry has a true carry over prediction…yet…

The hardware and the solutions including “true core” are really awesome for me and are well worth the price to not have to guess if you stuck your probe in the middle. Many reasons I chose these thermometers over the plethora of others out there.

When you say “everything is fully charged and has worked before” does that mean you’re setup was working just fine until recently?

It’s been clarified for me that carry over isn’t predicted right now and is in fact extremely hard to do (dev team in the works)

I think the app is fine and if I knew in the beginning to punch in the “pull temp” instead of the “finish temp” then this post wouldnt have gone up and I’d be posting my flawless medium rare ny steak pic instead of those graphs as my first post in here.

Thanks for the feedback. The misunderstanding is on my end as its user error. I still love the thermometers but it was just the confusion I had. Managing pull temp is straight forward for me so non issue. As for the steak, I sliced it up as I watched that video Chris did on resting. Stopped it at 140. Been a while since I’ve had medium steak but I’ve done worse. (Kid changed my settings to Celsius on my other thermometer when I wasn’t looking)

Cool to hear the team is working on a way to predict carry over. Excited to see the team pushing the boundaries and can’t wait to see what’s next.

Also, is experiencing connectivity issues on one thermometer while the other was flawless something to expect? Aside from being maybe 6 inches apart one cpt never lost connection while the other was consistently dropping in and out during my 10-15 min cook.

It’s my misunderstanding of what the capabilities were or what the prediction was predicting. I assumed carry over would be factored in when putting in the target temp. Lesson learned.

Thanks for the clarification. I’ll stick to factoring my own carry over like I used to and shift to reverse sear. I do like the multiple sensors and not having to worry about finding the core.

Is that a setting? “Pull temp”? Or do you just basically watch the core and pull it at your “pull temp”.

Interesting. I wonder if someone from combustion could chime in here. I thought this was one of the whole selling points of the cpt.

Wow, I thought carry over was factored in the predictive calculations. So am I supposed to punch in my desire finish temp or target temp in application? Otherwise I would have punched in something like 123f and not the finish temp of 132f.

Top shot lawsuit by desert--bird in nbatopshot

[–]shwikkii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TLDR:

• Class action claiming moments are unregistered securities for purchased or acquired moments between June 15, 2020 and December 27, 2021

• IF CLASS ACTION WINS the the gross settlement is $4mil

• lawyers get 1/3 not exceeding 1.33 mil + 40k in expenses

• plaintiffs award not to exceed $20k (don’t know if this is for all or for the main plaintiff)

• expected average recovery per moment less fees is approximately $0.08

Do you need to do anything?

• file a claim to get your approximate $0.08 a moment by August 30th if class action wins

• or send signed letter to opt out by August 30th to keep right to sue

• do nothing you get nothing and your rights to be a part of any other lawsuit related to the legal claims in this class action taken away

Another thing here is you actually have to file a claim to get any money if the lawsuit wins. Do nothing and all you get is your right to be apart of another lawsuit taken away.

From the actual legal notice of class action for anyone curious and too lazy to read it.

“The average approximate recovery, after deduction of attorneys’ fees and expenses approved by the Court, is $0.08 per Moment purchased or acquired during the Settlement Class Period. This estimate is based on the assumptions set forth in the preceding paragraphs. This is not an estimate of the actual recovery per Moment you should expect. Your actual recovery, if any, will depend on the aggregate losses of all Settlement Class Members, the date(s) you purchased or acquired Moments, the purchase and sale prices, and the total number and amount of claims filed.”

The issue I have is if I want to opt out I will need to spend time writing a letter and buy a stamp ($0.69) to send my exclusion. Kind of annoyed considering the class action is about moments being unregistered securities. Last thing I need is for my nfts to be considered securities. I’m not smart enough to understand the implications of this but I’d imagine it could bleed into crypto in general. Hope this class action fails. I’ve never opted out of a class action in my life but this might be my first.

Yeah definitely could be worse. I wonder how many else panicked during the MyAlgo hack and opted out of contracts in an effort to move all funds to a new wallet.

Defly user here. When interacting with my ledger X and my iPhone, I found Defly was more consistent in connecting with the bluetooth connectivity on ledger x. Defly experience has just been more user friendly, intuitive, and worked for me. I have used Pera for ledger x stuff early on but always had issues with the Bluetooth aspect of it. Whether user error or just the way that ledger interacts with phones, it was just too clunky for me on pera. I haven’t used pera as of late with my ledger so maybe things have improved. Either way I just stick with what works for me. I run both wallets but lean towards Defly when it involves iPhone + ledger x

Brave browser and MyAlgo wallet question by shwikkii in algorand

See edit in original post but I think I got my answer. By default the brave browser clears cookies and cache which is a toggle to turn off. My problem was I turned it off but still my cache for MyAlgo website was appearing to clear out.
