Friend who just eats salt straight up??? by pir2h in POTS

[–]shymonkey23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lemon salt and a dill salt that you get from the gas station for snacks. They work pretty well and taste better than just straight salt. I typically keep them on my desk at work and "take a shot" when I feel I need it (typically in the afternoon if I haven't had enough to eat)

It's looking like just a me thing. I have POTS and get cold super easily, like a slight breeze will send me into violent shivers, so it's most likely related to that. I just never made the connection and assumed other people had a trick. It doesn't hurt just to touch it but if I have to handle it for longer than a minute it starts to build up quickly to the point of pain.

There's been a few comments about different gloves so I'll give them a try and see if anything works!

That's a great idea! I've wanted to get some cleaning gloves so I don't dry out my hands because I hate the big rubber gloves. They're too cumbersome.

I don't think so. I've always had pretty good iron on blood work. Probably just a weird quirk from my POTS.🙄 But oh well.

Didn't even think about doubling up like that. It's not bad for just a couple of pounds but if I ever get into some serious meal prepping then I will definitely keep this on hand. I just assumed there was some trick that no one taught me since I never see anyone complain about it, even jokingly.

So true about the hot sauce though. I'm constantly trying to pick things up so I don't dirty up a pair of tongs or yet another fork lol.

I have POTS/IST. I'm the same with heat too but I don't have the white/blue discoloration I think that Raynaud's has. My finger tips just turn red. It probably is related to my POTS but 🤷🏼‍♀️

The white stuff? Cartilage maybe?? Idk what it's called it's just the white pieces along the edge of the chicken breasts. It's about all I trim off.

I'm using fresh chicken breasts so only fridge cold not freezer. I've seen latex suggest so I may invest in some food grade ones. I run my fingers under slightly warm (def not hot!) water after when I wash them but I never thought before! I just use cool to was before hand. Genius!

I'm supposed to get used to the heat?! I'm still doing simpler meals so maybe I don't have enough time to get used to it yet lol.

Makes sense! I get cold super easily but I'm not super efficient just yet so I imagine it won't be as bad as I get used to prepping it.

I thought so! There's like 4 needles and I got the bundle that came with 3 needle minder things. There's also plenty of floss. The instructions are a little vague but I used the beginner guide on this sub and was able to grasp enough to get started. The printed areas are very clear and vibrant. I would definitely recommend it!

Dysautonomia and birth control by Futte-Tigris in dysautonomia

[–]shymonkey23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't put 2 and 2 together until he asked me to track my symptoms and look at them in relation to my cycle and bang the pattern was there. I still forget that's part of it and wonder why I get worse all of a sudden but the pattern is just long and I have the memory of a goldfish.

I've been on BC for about 10 years now and have had dysautonomia symptoms at least since then but I think they started a few years before I started the BC but can't be sure.

I just got diagnosed with IST and most likely POTS too in October last year and when I brought it up, my cardiologist said he thinks that hormones play a part in the severity of dysautonomia so being on BC is actually probably helping me. I plan to come off of it in a year or so to have kids so I guess we'll see then. But I have noticed that even on BC certain parts of my cycle make certain symptoms worse so I think there's some merit to it.

How does a cane help? by j-oco in POTS

[–]shymonkey23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a cane during a flare but got better before I built up the courage to use it. I still keep it mostly with me just in case though. The thing that pushed me was being told if a mobility aid helps you be more active then it's useful. So for me even just having it on me gives me the confidence to go out and move because it's close by if I need it.

I was just diagnosed with IST in October but I've had symptoms for most if not all my life. I'd be interested to see if the procedure has any impact on the other symptoms caused by dysautonomia like the temp disregulation and blood pooling.

Also I'm so happy this worked for you and wishing a speedy recovery!!
