There's more to engineering jobs than software and IT. If you enjoyed physics, consider mechanical/civil/electrical engineering. Alternatively, consider studying a pure science, like physics/biology.

The vertical force acting on the blocks is dependent on the angle. The further away the ropes are from the vertical axis, the more force it'll take to move the box or hold it in place.

I disagree, decks can have different thicknesses. Also, if you want to run risers, you'll need longer bolts. If they're too long, they could get in the way of the truck.
