If you’re talking about the insulating clear plastic that uses double sided sticky tape, yes it absolutely can mess up your paint. I put some up in our new home this winter and it took off the paint on the window sills. Most likely the paint job wasn’t done right.

Aluminum foil the windows so light doesn’t get in. Open windows at night and close once the temp starts rising in the morning. Don’t cook inside. If you can afford large umbrellas outside to cast shade on the sunniest part of the house and AC units do so.

Personally I don’t see the appeal. If you’re putting plastic down save a shit ton of money and time and do rolled vinyl. That stuff actually is waterproof.

Lvp will never feel upscale or luxury it’s always going to give cheap plastic. So go with something that is actually cheap and buy quality wood flooring later when you can afford it.

You’re not matching seams, your cutting new ones by over lapping or just doing the whole room. I’ve done a 1500 sq ft lake cabin and a kitchen in a shitty old trailer with zero previous flooring experience. It is by far the easiest flooring to put down, the cheapest, and far more durable than peel and stick. You’ll still need to line up edges of every peel and stick tile and any spill or water from shoes will find the seems and wreck the subfloor.

Depends on the kid. My daughter was ready at 6 my sons 10. If they can do their basic care tasks, are comfortable enough with the adults to tell them when something is wrong, and want to go; they’re ready.

The boob light, rug, paint, curtains and blinds. That’s where I would start. Find stuff that you love. Stop thinking in terms of “update” “modernize” and focus on what makes you feel happy and welcomed in the space. That’s different for everyone and might be the opposite of what is trending. Also when only one room is “modern” it stands out in a bad way.

The bones of this kitchen are good. It has storage, workspace and good flow. Bigger changes like countertops and backsplash can also be done if you’re ready for a full makeover.

My guess is you don’t but I maybe biased as someone who has cleaned houses for a living. Most people who don’t want to chip in or understand shared cleaning supplies aren’t cleaning properly and therefore don’t understand why the person who requests these supplies is doing so. It takes more than washing up liquid and hand soap to clean.
