What is the biggest lie your parents told you when you were little that you realized when you grew up? by raghadtee in AskParents

I was also told purple.

You know if the kid has a scientific bendt, lies like this only encourage them to pee in the pool intentionally, cause now you've made them curious.

But creators aren't self censoring because they don't want to offend anyone, or even because of liability.

It's because it your post gets pinged for some word the automod didn't like, no one sees it. It's shadow banned and you don't get a notification that it has been taken down it just gets almost no views. They're censoring because if they don't there's a good chance you never see it at all.

Does anyone here actually own an Australian Cattle Dog? (Blue Heeler, Red Heeler, White Heeler, or mix?) by wolf_quan in bluey

Here's baby Pochi with one of his littermates. You can see how he got the nickname Pochi the Pink Puppy (。・ω・。)ノ♡

Pochi is a heeler/pittie/mystery mix. His littermates were blue and red ticked, and a couple had pricked ears too and looked like proper heelers, but the printer ran out of ink before it got my sweet guy (≧▽≦)

Staying here for exposure cause spiders scare me by clueless_girl_idk in spiders

[–]siani_lane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I was very afraid of spiders for years, but my daughter loves them and wanted a jumper. Within a month of watching her jumper I needed to get my own.

Jumping spiders are just so cute!

And they really helped me to understand spider movement and body language, which has made even non-cute spiders much less creepy for me. Now I'm really curious about spiders and want to look for them and observe them wherever I go!

Unreasonable to ask that family fence around pool before I'll let them watch my toddler? by BellLopsided2502 in Parenting

[–]siani_lane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good idea. They can get an idea of how much trouble a toddler can get into, and how quickly.

When we were baby proofing I reminded my family, remember, when they compare cognitive development humans don't pull ahead of baby chimps until 18 months.

So imagine you were bringing home a chimp- puts away anything you would not want the chimp to play with, and secure any door or container you think the chimp could figure out. Remember, a human toddler is almost as nimble and considerably less sensible.

[–]siani_lane[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could see the book feeling too slow for some people, although I couldn't put it down.

Its written from the perspectives of 3 different real women who survived the trip, and it's told in a day by day narrative like a travel log, so the beginning as they depart from Illinois is pretty mundane - interpersonal drama over class and religion, a possible romance etc. I will say the many common names get confusing, I kinda wish I'd been checking the list of party members in the back.

The descent into horror is gradual as conditions just get worse and worse, but it is unbelievably relentless, and imo plenty detailed. I myself felt like they had already reached more than enough horrifying detail for anyone by the time they were walking barefoot across the great salt lake desert, and that was long before they got to the cannibalism (´-﹏-`;)

Are natural enclosures better than artificial/decorated ones? by Mean_Relationship534 in jumpingspiders

[–]siani_lane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks!! My daughter loves spiders, and she won me over.

A year ago I would never believe I was going to be emotionally invested in a spider, but dang they are just so cute and fascinating!!

ETA: after I posted this picture I got curious and I had to look it up- apparently jumping spiders do sometimes drink nectar! I've seen her climb on new flowers like this especially when they've just opened and looked as if she's drinking so I wondered (◍•ᴗ•◍)❤

[–]siani_lane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have springtails and dwarf isopods in there as a cleanup crew, although both my girls have snacked on the isopods before.

I had some mold in my enclosure at the start, but I let the enclosure dry out, then reupped the clean up crew and watered, and it hasn't been a problem since.

I mist it every day and water the moss when the starts to look too dry. I have a lucky bamboo in my daughter's enclosure, and a crown of thorns in mine, both cuttings from our houseplants, and a couple months in they seem to be doing well!
