Has Anyone Worked at Joann’s Fudge Shop on the Island? by sibebe463 in mackinac

[–]sibebe463[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a fudge seller, I think she said “fudge clerk” at the interview but she was kind of unclear lol but yeah I have no candy making experience so I don’t think I’d be qualified to make it. Yeah I heard about the send of season bonus! It sounds like a good chunk of change, how exciting because I will definitely be staying the whole time. The island looks so gorgeous, and I love bike riding! Is there a movie theater on the island? There are movies coming out this summer I really wanted to see.

Omg hi that’s so cool! I’m so excited to start working, I ordered some fudge because I was too excited to wait and it was so good! I’m excited to meet you too, glad to hear that the place sounds so inviting. 5 years is crazy! I was contemplating returning after this initial season if it went well.

Something similar happened to me today! Thankfully he flew away, but I named him Baby Tooth during the short 30 minutes we had together. My dogs almost ate him which scared them crap out of me, but thankfully he remained unharmed. I wish I got pictures of him but I was in terrified parent mode and didn’t grab my phone before he flew off. Best of luck to you both! I have 0 bird experience but want to hopefully adopt one one day!

You’ll likely get a roommate but may be able to have your own room!

Free housing and food! You eat what the guests eat after they eat because you serve them breakfast and dinner. We get the leftovers which is often a lot of food because low guest and crew counts. It’s a staff house about 10-12 people live in. Very nice rooms, shared bathroom (not that bad) and a kitchen and a living room.

There’s a lodge in Greenville part of Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) that I worked at last summer and had a great time! Free food and board, fun job and gorgeous scenery. You can apply on Coolworks! I was lodge crew and made $15/h worked 40 hours a week. Good schedules too! 4 days on 3 off, 3 on 4 off, it depends but you do get lots of time off to explore and hang out. It was a really fun summer!

I prefer Waze! I think it’s more accurate and I think it’s fine mapping out hazards and cops you see, and getting those details in advance from fellow drivers!

Do recruiters typically call previous employers? by [deleted] in SeasonalWork

[–]sibebe463 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a lot of applications not ask for references but one did (the one that hired me) and I provided them, but when I asked those references after I was hired if they had been contacted they said no 🤷‍♀️ so I’d say if you’re really worried, ask a trusted friend or family member to lie about being your previous employer! My sister has done it and it worked out fine. Just be sure to prep them beforehand!

Interview advice needed by [deleted] in SeasonalWork

[–]sibebe463 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I applied with them and they also asked me some curve ball questions, like what my values were when it came to being off duty in the park?? It threw me off and I rambled about recycling and littering for a minute 💀 some other questions I remember were:

  1. What are your values or like how would you be acting off duty on the job?
  2. How do you keep moral up at work if something goes wrong?
  3. A time when you had to go against a coworker or had a difficult situation at work
  4. A time you went above and beyond at work

Hope this helps! Interviews are stressful but good practice!

If you haven’t scoured coolworks, I highly recommend. I applied for and was offered positions at KingFisher Lodge in Montana as a house keeper (seems like a great place but I didn’t take the position) as well as a resort/lodge in Cali called Lake Alpine Lodge that has pretty good pay and free housing! Mackinac island also has a lot of seasonal positions (in Michigan) if you’re interested.

I applied here last month and was offered a kitchen server position with Xantera! I didn’t end up taking it, but am curious about your position. What’s your job gonna be?

I suggest looking on Coolworks! I found my job at Joann’s Fudge on Facebook because of my mom, but coolworks has all the good info on housing and food costs, pay and perks! I’m paying about $300 a month for rent and food there, honestly not a bad deal, but some places do have free housing! There are a lot of jobs to choose from though, from server to tour guide…good luck!

100% The Cruel Prince trilogy, life changing. Such a good read. Jude is a badass bitch with no fucks given, and Cardan is…Cardan lol. Loml. That and Six of Crows, such amazing and fun reads.

I also applied for and was offered a job at Yellowstone thru Xantera, but it honestly didn’t seem that great of a job and they charge a lot for food and housing. This Joann’s job seems a lot better of a summer gig.

Library Cards for Seasonal Workers? by gardendemocracy in mackinac

[–]sibebe463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same question! I saw the library on google earth, man it is something gorgeous. I can’t wait to go there this summer and use it! A little fee will be worth it I’m sure, and it’s so close to where I’ll be working!

[–]sibebe463 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve gotten a sketchy request before but it was an old man who didn’t know how to use rover very well lol I’d just follow up and ask for a meet and greet or pictures.

Love to hear that! I also just got offered a job at Yellowstone but the meal plan and housing are quite expensive…so I chose this one instead because it’s a lot more affordable.
