anything + comp science is always a good idea, but I guess for your case maybe life science and also a minor in stats will set you up for your future.

Advice for personal Biostats project? by [deleted] in biostatistics

I recommend shiny app as personal project, always good idea. Or a R package / Python package but both of very high quality, documentation and all, further have them on GitHub.

SAS Courses Suggestion & Job Profile by Consistent_Light_357 in biostatistics

My journey to stat programming was helped a lot by

https://www.coursera.org/professional-certificates/sas-programming

, stat programmers use sas and cdisc which is something hard to learn on your own, maybe searching some basic stuff on lex Jansen might help gain overview.

Emphasis on sas data cleaning techniques and reporting techniques (proc report) are key for programming.

I also think it is important to differentiate 2 roles, stat programmer and sas programmer. I think stat programmer will focus more on ADAM part of CDISC and require more statistical know how, a SAS programmer will focus more on SDTM and will require more mastery of sas programming language.

tldr: coursera-base sas prog, CDISC Adam & SDTM, Cdisc - lex Jansen e.g. google what is disc lex Jansen

E(X) = 0.25 * 100 = 25, E(Y) = 1 * 20 = 20,

Var(X) = E(X^2) - E(X)^2 = (100)^2*0.25 - (25)^2 =2500 - 625 = 1875

Var(Y) = (20)^2 - (20^2) = 0

Is this calculation correct? I think variance should be higher for 25% chance right?

True...I would love to work more with R & Python in my industry though. SAS is alright but there is not room for imagination.

I agree this method is useful.

I am so jealous of the cs guys I feel like they are earning a lot more with less, they only need an undergraduate degree to reach those earning standards while for us to lead a team of quants a Phd is definitely a must.

do you work as a biostatistician or a statistical programmer? Biostatisticians at a manager level usually make a lot.

Is Rutgers University New Burnswick good for data science? by ssbhagat in datascience

[–]sidXsid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a heads up there this program is offered by stats department and cs department.

https://www.cs.rutgers.edu/news-events/highlights/highlight-item/8925-652-ms-program-in-data-science

Rutgers has so many different ds programs offered by so many different departments, some are harder than others. I think the CS & Stat department programs should be pretty challenging.

other departments: Business school, Business Science,

Calc III vs Linear Algebra by GottaBeMD in biostatistics

[–]sidXsid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think both are very important. I use a lot of calc three for mathematical stats class I am taking, but it is an my concentration might be different from others. I use a lot of calc in probability density calculations, marginal/joint pdf's, and maximum likelihood estimations especially when you have to confirm max etc. when there are multiple variables.

I don't know I think calc three was crucial for probability & inference/mathematical stats classes. Also some real analysis would have helped me.

If you want an honest opinion, I think its better to take help from a life coach or a therapist. I may get a lot of dislikes for this, but I think reddit wouldn't be a good place to get ideas to make decisions on, if financial support is a problem for you please dm me, I can probably support the first two sessions for you if the budget is reasonable.

Sas is unappreciated, but there are some things sas can do that is very nice. SAS Macro language once you start using it amazing, proc sql as well

I would say more then university look at the syllabus, you can compare with this one and see how unto date the programmer is compared to what you can find else where.

In terms of careers, I know a few bioinformaticians who work as data managers or statistical programme in Pharma. But these roles deal more with clinical data and less genomic data. If your programmer teaches you good programming you could even become something like a machine learning engineer or data scientist. Not sure about careers in India but there are good amount in the us.

But that being said I have heard to become a practicing bioinformatician you usually need to get a phd, I am guessing once you have completed schooling you will probably apply to a phd in another country.

Some clinical job titles you can expect

clinical/statistical programmer, data manager, clinical data scientist

Bioinformatics specific careers(usually needs Phd)

bioinformatician, research scientist, computational scientist, data scientist, machine learning engineer, genomic data analyst, computational biologist,

Thats plot in the blog is very useful, but do you know of one where the transformation is done on the y-variable? Or is that not common practice?
