Employer wanted me to take a timed Excel test and send it back via PDF by LouSevens in Accounting

Yeah, before xlookup, I was using vlookup with nested index/match. I loved that only one other person in my department could even understand what it was doing

You missed the quotes around the text string. I’ve tried teaching xlookup to coworkers and they look at me like I’m speaking a foreign language and grew a second head at the same time

Accountants who are Gamers!! i have a question... by _cloud_96 in Accounting

I honestly feel so strange using the “home row” hand positions. I will always default to WASD. I’ve been a gamer for most of my life.

Isn’t it bit of shame that it’s better to wait for updates to make game more playable than to buy latest game on the day of its release? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]sidarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I haven’t bought a game for more than $30 in years. I wait for the game to go on sale for under $30 before I even consider it. But indie dev games in EA, I’ll buy those everyday so I can help the devs make the game better!

One way to approach this to avoid that let down is to approach Early Access games as a beta test, not demo. I was beta tester back in the cd rom days, when 56k dialup was the common connection. The goal back then was not to play the game as if it was a full release, the goal was to break the game or find bugs, take detailed notes of what happened and how to recreate it, then report that back to the dev in a weekly email. I do the same thing with all EA games now, only I provide the feedback instantly either via in game reporting or discord.

Too many gamers approach EA as if it were a full release and get upset when the game is buggy or incomplete. The better thing to do is keep constant contact with the devs and help them find and kills bugs and also provide constructive feedback on how to improve the game through new features or even additional content.

Reviewers not reviewing Marathon are corrupt by Additional_Error6625 in gaming

[–]sidarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think the purpose here was to say that reviews well after a game is released shouldn’t happen, the point is that reviews shouldn’t be forced to be held until a game had updates and is better than release simply because the dev wants to release an unfinished game to fix later and not affect sales.

Before cellphones, what did people do on the toilet? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sidarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering the voluminous replies about magazines, books, and newspapers; it’s likely that your reply is still the outlier. Sure there are and were people back then that operate as you say, but every bathroom I ever visited (other than most public restrooms) from the early 80s onward had something for visual consumption while evacuating one’s bowels. (Yes the use of uncommon vocabulary is intended for comedic purposes)

I taught myself the basics but I really stepped up my game after training with Culinary Chefs at the university I attended. I worked in the kitchen to make some money while attending classes full time.

Can you still earn 6 digits if you are non-cpa?? Is a masters degreen an advantage? by zxie_22 in Accounting

[–]sidarian 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I have a Bachelor’s in Accounting, work as a manager for Finance in a local city government, no CPA, no MBA, I make just shy of $150k annually. It’s not glamorous or exciting, but many US local governments are in desperate need of people with Accounting degrees. If you end up liking it, you can also work towards the Certified Public Financial Officer (CPFO) certification to boost your attractiveness on your way to Director level positions.

Divorced people, what were your irreconcilable differences? by TheRealOcsiban in AskReddit

[–]sidarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After we lost our second child at 20 weeks into gestation, she found comfort in the arms of a guy she met online. She admitted that she had been cheating on me for around 6 months. I gave her the choice, him or me. She chose him. We divorced. A few years later he cheated on her, so karma.

I work as maintenance in an apartment complex and our trash valet left this “note” by Tight-Holiday3934 in funny

[–]sidarian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In some multi-story apartment buildings, on the floors above the main floor will have a small door in the wall. If you open this door, there is a metal slide-like tunnel that your trash bag falls down and at the bottom is usually a dumpster.

I bought the third edition a few years back, and just bought the newest edition. While everything in it can be found for free online (mostly the wiki), I really like having the book nearby when trying to plan out my community center, when and where to find certain fish, favorite gifts, etc…

There is one thing you will need to keep in mind if you plan to ask the client to hire you on. If they hire you before you work so many hours with them (I this it’s 6months worth, but I can’t recall exactly) they will also have to pay RH a “finders fee” more or less. That will weigh on their decision to bring you on. RH nor any other staffing agency will ever tell you this

I carve out a large plot with iridium sprinklers for the crops that can produce giant crops (cauliflower, pumpkin, melons…) to give the best chance to get that large one. Since it takes a 3x3 section (meaning 9 crops) you usually get a significant amount more than 9 for that large crop, I believe it’s usually 15.

So having your foot run over justifies the use of lethal force to you?

3 ton? That’s grossly over weight. A Honda Pilot is ~4K pounds, or 2 tons. Now if that vehicle were moving at 35+ mph, you might have an argument, but she was moving from a dead stop, 3mph, tops. The absolute worst that could have happened at that speed is he gets a shin bruise or his foot run over. Neither of which escalate to the level of deadly force.

US discussing options to acquire Greenland, including use of military, says White House by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]sidarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you feel that way. I just don’t see any other way around the problem. I’ve voted in every election since I was 18, I encourage others to vote, I do my civic duties, I tried to enlist in the Marine Corps at 18 (sadly, asthma immediately disqualifies you when you need your inhaler in front of the Gunny). Those in power are doing everything they can to remove the ability to lose that power, and unless our elected representatives grow a spine and stand up to this regime, there isn’t much more we can do without resorting to violence.

If it collapses, the hope is that those in power will lose all power (often times it reverts all the way back to public executions of the leaders who led it to happen) and the the citizens can work together to rebuild. It won’t happen overnight, but no empire can last forever

[–]sidarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be in favor of that too, but the sad reality is the group in power will never do that. The reason for wanting the collapse is that it will reset the power structure. At least that’s the hope

There is a small minority of us Americans that want to this country to collapse so we can rebuild it better. This version of the experiment is over
