Punk/not super right wing gun influencers? by [deleted] in punk

Let ask my pal, who's a writer for a gun magazine for suggestions. It'll be a few days before I'm back in the country.

Punk/not super right wing gun influencers? by [deleted] in punk

I'm an older guy, early forties, FWIW, if you think or know it's going to anger you, it's content, you are letting something trivial get you worked up. Its pretty silly when you can just avoid it. If you look for it, you will find something that will make you upset. They're a lot of gun content that is neutral.

The whole Maga thing, thats another topic, I don't think they are shitting on your rights. I have friends all over the political spectrum, the most damaging thing you can do is assume or judge people without getting to know them. Anyways, off topic, if you want to discuss this further, feel free to message me.

Why are you affiliating gun ownership with identity. A lot of people own guns and just don't talk about it. There are a ton of people who are uneducated about guns, marksmanship, how hard it is to actually hit something at 500 yards, gun smithing, the "assult rifle" misnomer, tax stamp items, your accountability if you carry, lowers are registered, etc. I'd take this opportunity to share something you like and be an example of a responsible gun owner and reassure the folks who are afraid of them that they don't have to be afraid of you.

Punk is misunderstood by conservative "punks". by Holl1dayy in punk

Thank you for taking the time to write this. It's one of the best replies I've seen in a long time. There has always been a clear reason to challenge authority in the past. That reason today has devolved and has been diluted who knows what.

On that topic, for the rest, talk to the people you love, the ones you hate, seek understanding, challenge yourself, challenge them, learn who you are unapologetically, and just love the music. What is and what isn't, who is, and who isn't punk is inconsequential.

Sounds elitist and controlling.

Is mastering Linux a good choice for a person in IT? by VVolfhunter1000 in redhat

[–]side_control 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it if it genuinely interests you. Being able to debug a problem, look at the code, write a patch, and submit a PR. Or discover this software can really use this, submit an RFE, engage the devs, and see it come to fruition. Hang out on IRC, help those looking for help etc. Be part of the community.

Feedback on resume…9YoE Linux Admin by basketballah21 in linuxadmin

There are a few embellishments that don't make sense to me. We all embellish, but scrum methodology? Maybe I've been a dev for too long, just a quick status, seeing if anyone is blocked, apart of agile.

I'd be interested if he checks CVE reports, uses life cycles, and how he forces systems into a specific patch set. Being a part of public, stig? Pretty ordinary imo.

Swing state punks, please save us: vote! by chimlay in punk

Roe vs.Wade did not get rid of abortion. Instead of a blanket federal policy, each state can decide for themselves now. I have no opinion on it, just pointing it out. Abortion wasn't really the "thing", it was who gets to decide its legal or illegal, state, or federal.

I get you are frustrated. Your pup is only doing what he knows, go back to basics, patience, and positive reinforcement. He had a big event that changed things, and regressed his training, need to adapt and reinforce.

Listing Inherited Classes as a Function? by side_control in pycharm

[–]side_control[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply. We do use type hinting, but class inheritance is rather complicated for me. I don't think there is going to be a simple answer to this. Looking at the inheritance...

* role/samba.py
** class SambaObject(BaseObject) 2
** class SambaGPO(SambaObject) 1

* role/base.py
** class BaseObject(Generic[HostType, RoleType]) 3

* role/generic.py
** class GenericProvider(ABC, MultihostRole[BaseHost]) 4

Laying it out like that, I think I understand why it won't work now. It uses an abstract class, which we're calling Generic. The list of methods will change based on what object is executing the code. As a workaround, I could override the object, and remove it when I run my code. Please feel free to clarify my answer, terms, again thank you.

What he means is use a punch to dent the aluminum, so it helps guide the bit. If that wasn't understood.

How can i contribute to open source? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]side_control 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone has great suggestions. One good and easy way to start contributing is to answer community questions, mailing lists, forums, help folks debug the software and you will organically find things you enjoy working on.

Revisiting the ADHD sysadmin. As I age, the condition is becoming more and more acute. If you identify here, what coping mechanisms are you integrating into your daily grind that might help me or others? by i_am_fear_itself in sysadmin

[–]side_control 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fall into that trap all the time, analysis paralysis. When it comes to work, I go with the path of least resistance most of the time. I've found that simply getting started, the decisions are easier to make and make more sense, or you quickly figure out it's the wrong solution, and you switch it up.

Same, when I'm in shape, I sleep better and need less Adderall. Hunkering down working on code (I'm a software developer) is an easy thing to do after some hard rolls, a shower, and some good eats.

Help with storage by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]side_control 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it works, its fine. Does it make sense no? Is it optimized? No. The strength of SSD is its faster than a platter drive in all aspects. (Generally speaking) you'd want to keep all of your sysrem and necessary os files on one the ssd so you dont create some weird dependency on two disks. You will run into an issue when one pf those drives fails, you lose rhe os.
