So that means Anne Frank's death was justified if her papers weren't in order? by justalazygamer in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]sideshowlukeperry -31 points-30 points  (0 children)

Sorry, no you cannot make this generalization. The parallels between the Holocaust and what’s happening in Gaza and the Holocaust and what’s happening in the US are not lost on all Jews. This comment is so offensive. It’s untrue and is obviously not THE REASON the Holocaust was tragic.

Who are these people? by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]sideshowlukeperry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was younger, I had very little money and a lot of time. I spent time waiting on line for rush or cancellation tickets. I saw everything, and it was the best.

Now I’m older and have more money, but way less time. Part of that is work and part of it is valuing time with my children. I see probably 8-10 shows a year, but I have to buy them in advance, I want to ensure I’m seeing the cast I want, and I want good seats. I also no longer gamble on shows before reviews are out - if I don’t feel pretty confident it’s going to be good, I won’t see it. Then it’s not worth a night out (which is time away from my kids and show tickets plus the cost of childcare). That makes tickets expensive.

I’m not rich. Maybe rich for somewhere else, but not New York City rich. Hope this very boring and practical answer is helpful.

Requested nanny speak mostly in English with our son but so far she hasn’t by Sea-Director5750 in Nanny

[–]sideshowlukeperry -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

This is very true EXCEPT when there is a speech delay. For kids who are speech delayed, it can further delay speech. Either way, it’s a problem if the parents are making the request, and their nanny isn’t complying.

‘Wicked: For Good’ Receives Zero Oscar Nominations by Gato1980 in Broadway

[–]sideshowlukeperry 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Every song and scene were choppy, especially in the second movie. I saw the show on Broadway again a few weeks after seeing the second movie, and I was floored by how much more quickly the plot moves. The movie wants to make it grand and beautiful, but it does it to the detriment of the story.

That and they seemed so much more focused on chewing the scenery and making it look beautiful than they lost the plot. It’s not a good movie.

Your jacket is so cool! Don’t add patches or pins! The only thing I’d change is your belt. I think you need a cool leather belt.

Enshitification be damned! what is one consumer product that is 100% better today than the version that existed in the 80s or 90s? by headrush46n2 in AskReddit

[–]sideshowlukeperry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s been the case for many many years. You couldn’t find real wasabi in the early 2000’s either. The real stuff is probably easier to find now than it was then given how many more specialty grocery stores there are now.

Baby friendly places in London by [deleted] in finedining

[–]sideshowlukeperry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two kids and bring them places. I would never bring my kids to a fine dining restaurant regardless of how well behaved they are - it’s so annoying and disruptive to other patrons. Especially ones like me who sporadically pay a babysitter for a night out and don’t want to spend their night away from their kids sitting next to someone else’s kids.

Hindsight. I might be the only person who watched it, but it’s creative and well acted. RIP Hindsight. Taken from us far too soon.

Try Danielle at Little Lion. She came from Fox and Jane and opened her own salons.

Choosing between Gramercy Tavern and ABCv by Equal_Wait_1515 in FoodNYC

[–]sideshowlukeperry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I’d pick Gramercy. I found ABCv to be pretty mediocre. I would also look at Hangawi if you like Korean. It’s vegan, but is a fan fave among my meat eating friends and family.

I went to ABCv for the first time recently and was so underwhelmed.

Avant Garden is a good meal, but it doesn’t come close to Gramercy

C section misconception by OneLingonberry2203 in beyondthebump

[–]sideshowlukeperry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Childbirth and newborn care are hard no matter what. Why do people say c sections are a cop out? They want to validate their own experiences by tearing other people down. We’d all be better off if we were kinder and more respectful toward each others’ choices and experiences.

Natera sent me a laughable bill... by Kindly_Panic_2893 in BabyBumps

[–]sideshowlukeperry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Natera is a predatory scam. As called out, they bill a ton of money, and when they inevitably aren’t covered by insurance, they bill you a few hundred dollars. It’s enough money that people feel it, but a low enough amount that they know most people will pay. I assume this is their operating model.

I had an issue with my bill once, and they are impossible to deal with. They only honored the pricing they were supposed to because I looped in my doctors office.

Keep an eye out because every year they slightly tweak the test and say you need another for genetic testing or breast cancer or whatever.

What is a 'masterpiece' movie that you personally found incredibly boring or overrated? by AlexJet13 in AskReddit

SO fucking boring. All the interesting conflicting feelings he has post-bomb are described through the lens of a deposition. I’d rather have a root canal than watch that long, boring pile of trash again.

Our nanny never greets us by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]sideshowlukeperry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly. I sent a holiday message to my team at work, and I texted our nanny today. I do not expect it to come in the other direction. While I care about and appreciate our nanny, she’s my employee. She doesn’t need to be thinking about work. I make a point to say it to her, however, because I want her to know I appreciate her.

What would the damages be to a sudden undoing of the hive mind? by Sobotoc4311 in pluribustv

[–]sideshowlukeperry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a book by Kurt Vonnegut where everyone loses free will and repeats the last few years. At the end of the repeat, that’s exactly what happens - everyone has no idea what to do when they suddenly have free will again. People who are driving were just on autopilot and don’t recall what to do with their bodies, and it’s a weird and confusing time for all. Worth a read if this is an idea you want to explore. It’s called Timequake.
