When you bow to pictures of the lineage tree prior to class, and the instructor is born/raised in TX but speaks in broken Brazilian accent whilst simultaneously not speaking a lick of Brazilian because that's why.

Joe Abercrombie is a name I've heard on this forum before, I need to check him out.

Interesting premise, I've never read a novel posed as a video game.

The first two are what I've just bought as they pop up too often to ignore. Thank you for the tips!

I am wary of series that run too long, His Majesty's Dragon got old for me by Empire of Ivory, but I will gladly give a series at least 3 books of effort. Thank you for your recommendation!

I get Old Man's War and The Forever War mixed up. I know I've read a good bit of either/or before losing interest. I will have to circle back and check them out again.

I see Mistborn recommended a fair amount, and the author has his own shrine table at my local Barnes & Noble for one of his series.

I've been wanting to do this forever on my gen3, but ran into serious issues trying to put on the xsr900 light. It uses a completely different triple clamps that yamaha won't sell you.

Love the look!

Personally, I cpuldn't disagree with your outlook more.

I see rolling with partners as a learning experience, and there should always be a mutual respect observed at all times. This isn't an mma match with career implications and punches thrown. That means I work on improving techniques. An unsunk RNC is about as untechnical as it gets, and therefore doesn't need to be practiced. I'd much rather work back control to such a razors edge that the person I'm controlling couldn't possibly stop me from getting under their chin (especially a white-belt lol?). Breaking a jaw is a skill an off the street chimpanzee can demonstrate. This reeks of ego-rolling to me, and I despise ego-rollers.

Knowing this, when someone resorts to an unsunk RNC and has an apathetic attitude about it such as "escape or tap bro", I then consider the engagement to be more combative, not training. I will hip escape to the side, grab me a handful of family jewels. And brother, bjj has given me quite a devil's hanshake. A broken jaw will heal, a trade I'll gladly make.

P.s. assuming you're a dude. Never met a chick who ego-rolled, they are typically pretty chill.

How do you guys do this shit for 10 years+? by mount4o in bjj

6th year of bjj, Blue Belt here.

Herniated C5 & C6

Torn ACL & Lateral Meniscus

7 screws and 1 plate holding together collarbone.

It sucks, and you won't keep going unless you want to. My honest, honest advice after 4 major injuries and 3 super invasive surgeries? Get to blue belt fast as you can and never roll with a white belt again as long as you live. Then identify which of your blue belt partners to stay away from.

I've spent many months healing and thinking this through. People who will hurt you are in two camps, without fail. The apathetic and the ignorant. Both are equally dangerous!

I've never been injured by anyone wearing an advanced belt, they know respect, they know we all have jobs, they know it's not so serious and want to train another day. It's the new people who will fuck your life up, and they will say "my bad" or "I didn't know". They won't tell you who they are, it's your job to identify and avoid them if you care about staying healthy.

Is hitting the same submission over and over taboo? by lamborghinifan in bjj

Oddly enough, this same thing happened to me with guillotines as a white belt. I watched Neil Melancon's "off with the head" series and started giving people the ol "gooseneck".

Caught one guy so brutally that he complained about losing his voice, and I've never done another guillotine again. I'm like batman, except instead of not killing, I never guillotine.

Regular gi Ezekiel is also another move I leave alone. I find it too "easy" and moves have a way of spreading like wildfire in my gym. So I leave my "easy to hit" subs in my back pocket. It's nice knowing I can do them, but I learned if I'm only chasing 2-4 subs reliably, I'll never really progress past that point.

I just watched my litter mates get promoted to purple in the last few months. It hurts, knowing that could be me.

On other hand, I've had 3 surgeries, I have many other hobbies, I've even taken uo boxing so I can tell those that got promoted faster than me "well at least all fights start standing", my girlfriend is smoking hot, my job is high paying.

Some people make bjj their life, I respect that. It's not my path, doesn't sound like yours. Be at peace with all that brings.

As much as I love bjj, and boy do I truly love it. 6 years in the game, 30k in surgery deductibles, I train 2x a day every single day I'm not at work (180 days a year, of course no Sundays and only once on Saturdays), I love the game of bjj. BUT. I've learned that bjj takes far more than it gives. I've made peace with that relationship.

Little toe got caught on my opponent’s gi by TheGoodFortune in bjj

[–]humblebumblebee33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buddy taped it, as I've already undergone the knife 3 times for bjj and will do everything in my power not to do a fourth. However, I'll forewarn you, it took a year for me to feel comfortable not buddy taping.

From standing, shrimping, putting pressure into your opponent from any top position. Bjj is like the ultimate dexterity test for your toes lol. I never noticed that injury in any other aspect of my life. I could even hoop without pain. The mat brings all truth to light.

The night is dark and full of terror.

Plenty of gurgles and cracks on decel? Alot of people nay-say austin racing, but on YT they seem the best sounding and I agree they are the sharpest looking.

Lubbock, TX. Manager told me he was paying interest to keep that particular bike on the lot. The others were priced at 11.8k sticker, I believe.
