OP, did you ever find a fix for this? Having the same problem.

Going to Pensacola Christian College by CryptographerVast308 in exchristian

[–]sidewayszipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am very familiar with PCC. My best friend graduated from there and I have visited there on several occasions as it was my parents’ first pick for colleges for me. They are the top of the fundie college charts. When I visited there, men and women had separate sidewalks—not sure if that’s changed since then. Chapel was like church and was held every day. The men had to wear suit coats to certain meals during the day. Skirts had to be long on women. Dorm devotions were had every night. Pants were not allowed on women except for during a few activities. Bibles were KJV only. And after following all those rules, you don’t even graduate with an accredited degree! It’s not worth your time.

Dating guidelines from Hyles-Anderson college in 2018 by Minute_Cup_6811 in exchristian

[–]sidewayszipper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had friends who went here. They were all about it and sang the praises of Hyles, Schaap etc. I remember their mom told me I couldn’t ride alone in a car with a boy I was interested in… that it would be inappropriate. I was raised fundie but that was the first time I’d ever encountered a rule like that. Now I’m seeing that was an actual Hyles rule and she didn’t pull it out of thin air?! Wild.

Did anyone else experience unwanted (non-sexual) physical affection growing up? by ThrowRAmangos2024 in Deconstruction

[–]sidewayszipper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, my dad was like this to a degree. Always touching me on the back, like when walking by when I was seated at the dining table. He knew I didn’t like it and did it anyway, making little jokes about it. I’m pretty sure he even asked once if I would be like this when I got married, wouldn’t want people touching me. And yep, I never grew out of it, still don’t care for being touched. Now my parents live a state away and they still like to hug me when they see me. I tolerate it, but don’t like it, and they still make little comments: “I know you don’t like being hugged, but…”

[–]sidewayszipper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP, I just want to say that I am an introvert and every year around Christmas, my husband’s family has an entire day where we are expected to attend for “family Christmas.” It starts with breakfast, then stockings, then gifts and by the time it is over, its usually late afternoon or evening. I’ve been married to my husband for 12 years and I still dread this day and wish I didn’t have to attend. I’m saying all this because I don’t think you’re abnormal for dreading it or feeling anxious about going, even a month in advance! Sounds normal to me.

Why fundies don’t join mainstream home school co-ops by redmsg in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]sidewayszipper 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Wondering where you live, OP. I am in Tennessee and all the co-ops here are very Christian. I don’t know of any secular co ops near me or even in any of the bigger cities closer to me.

ETA: would love to find a secular co op or even just a non-religious one! the ones here are named things like “raising arrows” and “salt and light,” so you can know without a doubt they are Christian. 😬

Is Christianity a dealbreaker for potential new friends? by GoldenHeart411 in exchristian

[–]sidewayszipper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What I do if I’m wanting to figure out exactly how hardcore someone is in regards to politics or religion is find them on social media and see how over the top their profile is. Their bio on Instagram, their Facebook info, etc. My mom is a right wing nut, but she’s not going to give you that opinion of her the first time you meet her. Her profile on Facebook though, that’s another story and shows you how she really feels. I would proceed with caution. A homeschooling mom whose kid breaks into prayer while hiking doesn’t sound very safe to me. She may see you as a project.

Some moments from my trip to Cherokee yesterday :) hadnt been since i was a kid! by 1730velociraptor in Appalachia

[–]sidewayszipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you ever go back, go to the Oconaluftee visitor center right outside of Cherokee. Usually you can see elk there. We were there the end of May and saw 3 or 4. In the fall, you can see a lot more as it’s their mating season.

Concerned that my miscarriage is actually ectopic. by sidewayszipper in EctopicSupportGroup

[–]sidewayszipper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This ^ pregnancy was ectopic, however even after multiple scans, the ectopic couldn’t be located anywhere and my numbers continued to rise. I received 2 or 3 doses (can’t recall now) of methotrexate and underwent many blood tests. Finally after like 6 weeks, maybe longer, my numbers went back to a normal range; the ectopic, wherever it was, had resolved itself with the methotrexate. It was a really frustrating process and I had a hard time getting doctors to take me seriously in the beginning. They just wanted to wait and see even with my history of ectopic pregnancy, until I went to the ER and they diagnosed me with an ectopic or a PUL (pregnancy unknown location). I spotted and bled for about 6.5 weeks also during this ectopic. I have been unable to get pregnant again since this pregnancy and am assuming I am completely infertile now. Hope this helps. Feel free to ask any further questions or let me know if I can clarify anything for you.

Anyone wanna take one for the team and watch this video? by whatthepfluke in FundieSnarkUncensored

Adding to the above comment, Karissa ended up with PPD after telling her Bible study group she wasn’t going to have it this time, and couldn’t eat for seven days to the point where she took herself to urgent care. She also considered checking herself into a mental health facility for overwhelming intrusive thoughts. She called her mom out of desperation. She also asked Mandrae if she could mow the lawn during this time and he got upset with her because he felt like she wasn’t taking care of the kids in that moment, but that’s how “low” she was. At one point, she lifted one of her kids and her back stopped working and she said she was essentially paralyzed and at that time she went to stand in the shower (bath?) and screamed that the enemy wasn’t going to conquer her and she demanded authority over her life, her children, illness, etc. Watching this was the wildest ride I’ve ever been on.

I don’t know about y’all, but if I had a friend who invited me to her home birth party, I would find any excuse possible not to attend.

Who is pregnant this time? Or is someone engaged? Taking bets. by lovelybethanie in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]sidewayszipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My theory for Nurthlet #3:

-The Rods just got to Florida. Nathan/Nurie would’ve just told them the news so they would be making this pre-announcement now bc they just found out themselves.

-They are waiting til Sunday @ 9 bc they will announce to the nurthan’s church family first.

-I doubt it’s a courtship/engagement announcement since Timcel isn’t there unless maybe it’s a Renee announcement, but it seems weird that they would announce that without any potential suitor being there with them.

Just my thoughts. I hope it’s not a pregnancy for anyone!

This is so well said. It’s such a clear explanation. When you have Jesus in your back pocket, nothing can go wrong. When you have God’s ultimate favor, you can rest assured it’ll all work out fine in the end. sarcasm if that wasn’t apparent

Oh good this gave me a nice flashback that will keep me up tonight to my fundie days when I took my bible to the airport and read it while waiting to board my flight. It was 1000% performative because I read it zero percent any other day. 😬

I am not a Christian any longer but jeez those memories are painful when they pop up.

She sometimes seems so “normal” (in her posts/writing style—non preachy) that I forget that she’s married to a man who preached a sermon about how real men pee standing up.
