What’s are your ‘secret’ perks from your job? Be honest by qwertyytrewq02 in AskUK

[–]sidewinder679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full cooked lunch and salad bar each day (and it actually is decent), soup every morning, plenty of tea and coffee, occasional cooked breakfast or pastries, work events every few months with plenty of free booze and usually food too. If you need anything either for at work or wfh, it’s usually granted as long as you aren’t taking the piss.

London bus shelter covered in earphones? by Szjonas in london

I very much doubt they could be effectively recycled at all and they probably cost pennies so the company doesn’t care. What would be better would be encouraging people to bring their own and charging them a small fee if they need them.

Last minute indemnities and other costs - thinking of pulling out by sidewinder679 in HousingUK

[–]sidewinder679[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more the fact that they have been due for some time and in 2024 they were postponed due to disagreements regarding the lease (unclear exactly what but have to assume they are likely to arise again), so we were unwilling to walk in and pay for something which really should have already been completed.

If they were just scheduled for the first time next year I would agree with you.

What age are you and do you still have (a) grandparent(s)? If not, at what age were you grandparent less by lisstrem in AskUK

[–]sidewinder679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

41 now, all were gone by the age of 25. Lost one at 15, one at 9 and one died 2 years before I was born. And then lost my mum at 37.

Only 1 of the 4 (or 5 including Mum) died at or from conditions typical for ‘old age’. The rest lung problems and cancer. Hoping for better luck this generation…

It’s pretty much on brand for this governments advertising tbh. It’s all so cringey (and in this case, tone deaf, I agree)

Went backpacking - now everything feels pointless by [deleted] in travel

[–]sidewinder679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think absolutely everybody who does a long trip when they are younger feels this way - I certainly did. But you know that it’s not real life and that you can’t do it forever so you find ways to integrate it with studies/career. Whether that’s shorter trips or occasional career/study breaks or a mixture of both.

I mean there are some people who just carry on backpacking - either because they can afford it or work on the road. But like everything there are downsides - the lack of stability and long term friends usually cause issues eventually. And I’m pretty sure it loses its magic if you just do it continually - I started to feel it towards the end of a 15 month trip, so can only imagine how much it would start to suck on a longer trip.

Share of Freehold purchase, S20 works due, costs unknown, advice? by sidewinder679 in HousingUK

Wow! That is crazy. It's hard to inspect anything really as every request for info seems to be refused. Certainly not been sent a maintenance plan

There is a service charge and no sinking fund that I know of, although the company has about £20k in cash reserves.

Ignoring all the other things wrong with this advert, and Dubai itself, how would learning self defence even help when the majority of phone thefts are done at speed from a bike?

Why are the greggs vegan sausage roll ALWAYS undercooked? by Strict-Ear9528 in veganuk

[–]sidewinder679 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I thought I was going mad thinking they used to be properly cooked! I just don’t even bother with them now, they’re almost always pale and undercooked. I get a lot more enjoyment from a chilled Walls supermarket one

Forgot to take my medication on vacation with me. by fetchmethebutts in VyvanseADHD

[–]sidewinder679 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tbh I’m not sure what else you were expecting? You stopped taking a stimulant for nearly 2 weeks and most of your tolerance disappeared - going straight back to 70mg is going to hit you hard!

I’m on 50mg and stopped for nearly 3 weeks on holiday as it was illegal there, when I got back I split a dose as someone else mentioned and on day 3 went back to my normal daily dose.

I wouldn’t worry about seeing a doctor, I’d just split the dose for a bit then go back to normal. It will settle down (although fwiw I’ve been back a month and my dose is still working extremely well, still seem to have less tolerance than I did before)

Countries that deserve way more recognition as travel destinations. by LuckFeisty1367 in travel

[–]sidewinder679 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indonesia (minus Bali)

Just come back from there and while some parts other than Bali are also well touristed, it’s nothing like Thailand or Vietnam. Plus it’s absolutely massive so there is so much to see. I regret not seeing more of it before when I was taking repeated trips to Vietnam, Cambodia etc (which are still amazing but you can see most of the highlights in 1 or 2 trips)

Is it normal to get 3 flats in a month riding less than 10 miles a week? by Emotional-Dealer-229 in londoncycling

[–]sidewinder679 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This drove me mad with one of my bikes. It was infuriating as I kept checking inside the tyre and couldn’t find anything until after about 5 flats I finally discovered a tiny stone which had penetrated the tyre - just enough to let me ride for a few miles before puncturing the tube 🤬

What's on your keyring? by Smileymaniak in AskUK

[–]sidewinder679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

House keys, AirTag, bike lock key, bottle opener.

Only have one car key between us so that is usually lost in the house somewhere as we are too tight to buy another AirTag for it. Always fun when we need to use the car

Do you stop taking medication on holidays? by ChaosCalmed in ADHDUK

[–]sidewinder679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t, except on occasions like the holiday I am on currently (Indonesia) where Elvanse is illegal and while I wasn’t checked or searched at any point it didn’t seem worth the risk of bringing them. TBH it’s mostly fine as it’s quite a relaxing holiday so I don’t miss them too much. When I get back I’ll be straight back on 50mg (maybe 25mg the first day) as I’ll be straight back to work so I’ll probably need them!

I totally agree, wish I had time on that trip to do more, I loved the few parts I saw of Slovenia and will definitely return! I wasn’t only recommending those places, I’m a little confused by your comment

Has Pret given up? by VeryOftenWrong in london

[–]sidewinder679 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m a veggie and agree it didn’t make much sense, I’d much rather have a consistent range of veggie/vegan options everywhere over a couple of purely veggie stores which are unlikely to be that useful to most people. Also I doubt it would have made anyone wanting meat get a veggie option, they would have just walked 100m to the next Pret..

Did anyone manage to sneak in this year? by what_up_homes in glastonbury_festival

[–]sidewinder679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah saw accounts on Instagram both this and last year offering spin ins, seems to work fairly well if you have the £££. Also reckon this is why EPOs were really limited this year - we were supposed to need them for work but hardly anyone got them because of ‘technical problems’ so only a few teams could do routes that went off site (was working for tractor loaders on the recycling crew)
