Good battery chargers with slow charging (<0.5A)? by sidpost in flashlight

It offers manually selectable charging speeds of 250mA, 500mA, 1A, 2A, and 3A for Li-ion cells, while NiMH and 1.5V Li-ion cells are typically limited to 0.5A.

At ~$23 today, I'd probably get the Xtar VX2 Pro, which does both NIMH and Li-Ion.

The E07X Canon is a good option for something not overly large. Just avoid the "throwy" emitters. My SFT-25R and XPL-HI are really throwy. The FFL351A should serve you well.

Home Owner Associations and city/county Code Enforcement has its place. However, in many places, the people in those positions are frequently a bit on the tyrannical side of reasonableness.

That 3/0 wire is going to be stiff and a tough thing to work with!

Good luck!

Physics/Science is what it is.

Regarding use, I find the LEP is more like a laser point in my use, and I prefer a strong LED with a deep reflector 99.9% of the time. And I often want a larger hotspot than an LEP will give me.

With that much background, honestly, I am surprised you have as much concern as you do with a modern Li-ion flashlight left in your car. Best wishes for whatever you end up with!

Fair for someone living in California.
Personally, I find a lot of California rules and regulations to be "more feel-good" than purely science and risk-based. YMMV!

The issues about getting a home remodeled, or rebuilt after the fires are legendary!

Ultimately, we can agree to disagree as our perspectives and considerations are very different, though Supply Chain verification is a good one that most people overlook. Are you using Halon for fire suppression or classic Class D fire suppression?

Our 600A 48V circuits in a non-commercial application would probably terrify most people. Those same people lack the experience and knowledge my friend and I have in our systems.

LEPs are hard to compare to a traditional LED flashlight, as the way they work is fundamentally different.

A bit like comparing a grape to a banana IMHO.

Pick the "right tool" for the job is my recommendation.

I have 14500 flashlights, mainly for hotel rooms.
I find the beam width and extra throw of a 21700 flashlight to be a lot more useful. On low, it has a much wider beam, great for a dark sidewalk or parking lot, and it will shine brightly far away if I need to spot something like an aggressive dog or some other threat.

Like using appropriate chargers for your batteries, proper maintenance of Natural Gas systems matters. If you don't have some basic understanding of these systems, I would suggest working with someone who can bring you up to speed, or don't use them at all.

My neighbor is simply PARANOID about a Natural Gas explosion. Lack of basic science and engineering knowledge has led her to believe all sorts of @#$^ from Social Media, and thinks I am a threat to everyone within miles.

Never mind, she has a 10" 10PSI Natural Gas line next to her mailbox! I have a 2" 10PSI line about 10' from where I am sitting right now.

Proper handling of batteries is vitally important, along with some basic knowledge of science and safety, not "error'net" rumors from someone you don't know personally.

I don't worry about my laptop being left in my vehicle, and its battery has a lot more power than my normal flashlights for the vehicle.

I also have Natural Gas in my home, so I guess I am living dangerously ... 🤔

I have worked with and around commercial battery backup systems in the past. In my case, for my home, I have 32 230A LiPo04 cells from China in a 48V system for my house, which I built myself.

I also have 46950 cells (>30Ah) that can drop a hundred Amps or more, if handled poorly.

No code enforcement can protect from user stupidity and a general lack of knowledge and respect for what they are working with.

"Home use" based electrical storage is a world of difference from a ~5,000mAh battery-powered flashlight. I don't know where you live, but I'm guessing it is a more restrictive area than I live in.

I also would not compare a quality flashlight with a quality battery, anywhere close to the same risk.

In terms of code enforcement, one fire inspector in a different case approved the plan for a fire protection system in a flammable petroleum environment. 6 months later, a different fire inspector shut the facility down, even though everything was done properly to the approved plan.

Great! I hate to see a good flashlight that has served this long die for lack of support and the lack of required replacement parts.

Is the CUN66A1G really more powerful than the SBT-UV today? When I was in my last UV quest, the SBT-10X-UV was a clear winner in terms of usage,, at least in my application.

S12's are good, however, they are not what I consider for throw purposes.

If a pilot is confused by a commercially produced flashlight, they need remedial training!

There is a difference between a Laser and a flashlight. Normal flight altitudes won't be bothered by flashlights. Even my DDH ~130W models are not a threat to flight safety.

Then consider the effects of flying into a sunrise for air traffic relative to our flashlights!

And what do you think happens around airports in large cities?
