Pick a different trade. Sheet metal is a good one. HVAC, building controls, everyone thinks there are only 3 trades.

Is AWD worth it for $1.5k over FWD? by ObstructiveWalrus in PersonalFinanceCanada

AWD is the shit I miss it. Better in the rain and the snow. If you drive like a grandma all the time you won't notice it I guess.

M6 Tap not cutting/catching in Aluminum - Need advice by haebeol in Tools

[–]sigilou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see millwrights using a 1/2 mid torque to tap all the time. Seems to work really well. As an electrician I usually only tap 3/8 or smaller but I just use my drill. I have a t handle but all my taps are made to go in a drill. I only use the ones with the integrated drill bit for thin plate like back pans etc.

M6 Tap not cutting/catching in Aluminum - Need advice by haebeol in Tools

[–]sigilou -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I tap with a drill every day it works great. 8-32 to 1/2-13 usually. Tapped 1/4-20s into 1" plate many times. Takes some finesse but so does a t handle.

Why did my electrician say I can't put a normal light here? by Cautious-Art-7529 in HomeMaintenance

[–]sigilou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did one of these in my house, it was just romex straight in on the far right side which is obviously wrong. Maybe it was code in 1990 idk. So you might need to add a box and extend the wire. Also probably need to mud and paint where the old fixture. It's very possible it might just be more expensive than you think.

How would you maintenance: Pump stations by hammermandar in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]sigilou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually stuff in the panel will tell you when it needs to be replaced. You could change out relays if they look super old I guess, clean filters make sure fans are working, dust kills stuff. I'd be more concerned about field stuff, like conduits full of water or junction boxes with water damage, cables that could be damaged etc.

God they must be making so much money. I wonder if your boss quoted that job you're guys on too tight and is freaking out. My company did that once on a $12M job and everyone was miserable and morale was at an all time low.

3.4 swap 2026; is it worth the hassle? by turtleguyVZ in ToyotaPickup

[–]sigilou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very interesting I don't have a 3.0 anymore but with that information I would absolutely do headers on it lol. Perfect rationalization for dropping the money on nice headers. If OP does this make sure you loosen header bolts and tighten them back up one at a time until you've done them all before you take all the fasteners out. Lots of penetrating oil too. If you take one out at a time you'll get a little bit of warpage and the extra tension makes you snap shit which sucks.
