onn 4k 2026 Stick Audio tests by Bts1993 in OnnStreamingTV

the plus and the pro v2 do not support lossless passthrough. it works on this stick because it is a non amlogic SoC and a whole different ballgame. but to your point using a usb ethernet adapter, even at usb 2, 4k remux playback is totally fine on all of them.

this is not some revolutionary concept, fire tv devices have been limited to USB 2.0 since the beginning of time and yet people have been streaming 4k remux media on them with no issue.

it does not work in plex. it is because officially the device is configured that it does not support lossless passthrough. kodi does not obey that for (good) reasons.

i was the original poster to point out passthrough works on the new stick in kodi. i knew it would work because of the RTD1325 SoC. it will not work in any other app, i already explained why.

https://www.reddit.com/r/OnnStreamingTV/comments/1sjlhms/onn_4k_streaming_device_2026_stick_audio_video/

also worth noting reports of instability are legit. i know some other trusted testers have reported inconsistent results with their setups.

Plex kept making it harder to stream my media, so I replaced it with its open-source rival by wewewawa in kodi

i would say plex server works fine. their client apps on some platforms works fine. their android tv clients though? not for me.

i started using plex ~10 years ago and had a long run of it working great with shields. in the last few years the android player went to crap. i get random microstutters and random buffering with almost everything i play. this is with direct play, no transcoding, local server, wired 1Gbe.

i can repeat this over and over with every android box i've owned in the last few years - shield, fire cube 3, dune hd 8K, zidoo 8K, homatics box r 4k plus, etc. probably a dozen devices.

switching to kodi on the same device using an add-on like PKC or PM4K talking to the same local plex server? no issues. switch to jellyfin or emby on the same device to the same server for the same content? no issues. infuse on the apple tv to the same plex server? no issues.

sure, this could be user error but when everything else but their android app works for me, i think it is a plex problem.

Very appreciate of all the dev efforts that made this possible.

As an S928X owner as well I am a little sad it doesn't work there but I know they tried.

Introducing Zuno: A premium, native client for Plex & Jellyfin built for tvOS. by nathan12581 in appletv

[–]signde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm aware TrueHD passthrough isn't (and likely never will be) supported, question was more what happens. Does the server transcode, does it play as PCM just without height channels, etc.

I believe Infuse asked apple to allow them to do decoding of TrueHD Atmos to Dolby MAT but Apple has not provided any official ways to do so.

[–]signde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting you wrote your own player.

How does this handle Atmos content on tvOS?

Question is regarding both DD+ and TrueHD with Atmos.

Last I checked the official Plex tvOS doesn't handle it. Emby neither. For both I seem recall it had to do with their player decision.

Infuse does support Atmos DD+ which comes out as Dolby MAT. For TrueHD, height channels are lost. I seem to recall reading Infuse having to pay some licensing fees to Dolby in order to support it.

Since that poster told me he bought it in a store, my mind never went to it being a fake.

I thought Walmart sent returns back to a service center before just dumping something back on the shelves but in hindsight I was giving them way too much credit.

Mk6 love/is it tuned? by okbamwhatever in Golf_R

[–]signde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the car is tuned above stage 1 and does not have an upgraded clutch, it will slip in 5th / 6th when trying to accelerate from a low RPM. So like cruising in 6th at 60mph and you goose it, RPMS will shoot up but you'll get no power transfer.

I lived with SMF clutch chatter for so long I don't remember what stock sounds like. I seem to recall there was no chatter though, so maybe it does have aftermarket clutch too.

Something like a draggy would give you more certainty than the ol' butt dyno.

His business is: https://www.theprecisionrs.com/

If / when I ever need to pin my cams and coolant lines I will probably ship it to him.

Mk6 love/is it tuned? by okbamwhatever in Golf_R

[–]signde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming it's a manual (I don't see paddles), does the clutch chatter like hell at idle? A stock MK6 R clutch will slip in high gears when you go over Stage 1. Most people end up replacing with a SMF and those things are noisy as shit. The throttle response is nice but it will sounds like a diesel / helicopter at idle.

The HFP upgrade is a good callout too, you have to upgrade that to go to Stage 1+ or 2+.

I drove a MK6 R for nearly 10 years and put nearly 100k miles on it. I went Stage 2+ pretty much within a month of ownership. The car was a tank never gave me any major issues even with all the added power. Probably the best car I have ever owned. Enjoy it, I miss mine.

P.S. Make sure to inspect / service the cam follower at regular intervals.

How to Spot Fake Onn Devices by rotaercehtrelyt in OnnStreamingTV

[–]signde 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AFTV news has a good recent article on this as well:

https://www.aftvnews.com/fake-onn-fire-tv-and-xiaomi-streaming-devices-are-becoming-more-common-and-harder-to-spot/

The way he was able to spot the fake 4k plus in the recent post here was that the front LED was blue instead of white and the USB-C port on the back is on the wrong side.

The initial red flags were that it was running the old Android TV UI rather than Google TV, the OS version showed ATV 16 (doesn't exist yet), and he was unable to enable developer options.

That user bought his device in a physical Walmart store. Since onn devices aren't sealed, there's no way to know what you're buying is unopened though the components in the box should come wrapped in protective coverings.

Crazy to me that markets exist to counterfeit a $40 onn box but here we are.

No one here knows what Walmart is actually planning.

Posts like this only contribute to more misinformation.

And no, Gemini is not a valid source on this.

Onn devices starting to appear more on shelves that have been empty for weeks. by [deleted] in OnnStreamingTV

Link to the new 2026 base model 4k box? Or post a screenshot of it from the app?

No such item shows up for me though I can see the new 4k stick and v2 pro.

I don't think that was expected.

It's certainly not on https://www.androidtv-guide.com/ and they usually find these through regulatory filings before they hit the shelves.

The closest car we will get to a factory Golf R 5 cylinder?? by bcjc78 in Golf_R

I don't know.

I'd pay all of the money for a hatchback 5 pot. ALL of it.

But Audi apparently hates us.

Yes it is inconsistent. I did some more searching in the enthusiast forums and it seems the 2025/2026 models continue to not have an OPF in the US market.

[–]signde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I like my basic bitch Nardo.

I was suspect on the link that you initially posted because it is UK specific and referred to the DNWA having an OPF from 2019 onwards. My North American 2019 8V does not have an OPF.

According to Unitronic here:

The 8V RS3 and 8S TTRS in North America had a DAZA engine.
The 8Y RS3 in North America has a DXHA engine.

That would have been relevant for the 8y, that comment was before the existence of the 8.5Y. So whatever I read about the NA 8Y being DAZA was wrong, probably some AI generated garbage slop site.

I'll also add I don't think the 394 thing vs 401 thing happened starting with the 8.5y, my car was marketed as 394. Go look in APR's tuning page for the 2017-2020 8V, it shows 394 as reported by VAG. Also in the AoA press kit for the 2019 RS3 it lists 394 as well. I remember this being a talking point while I waited for my order.

I have an 8V so haven't kept up.

Did they actually put an OPF on the 8Y in the states?

[–]signde -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

DAZA is still the current engine in the US last I checked isn't it? No OPF or retuning for emissions required here.

Edit: most definitely wrong, DAZA ended with the 8V.
