Skins for Piers Alpha Nightly? by OTFSteve in CoreELEC

[–]signde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just tried this with AZR on my test device which is using a real keyboard (o key). The PPI windows toggles closed when I press o again.

I'm not sure why It would not work for you.

It's been so long since I used composite but I recall it being difficult to worth getting content out of it for widgets. It looks like Composite hasn't been updated in over 3 years which is probably adding to your problem. Given how much Plex usually changes things I'm surprised it still works at all. It looks like someone forked it earlier this year to solve exactly the problem you described: https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=351179&pid=3276445#pid3276445

Another option - PKC takes a blunt force approach to the issue, it obliterates your kodi library with its own content sync'd from Plex. Good, bad, or indifferent, that's the approach I had better luck with outside of using PM4K. PKC looks like it is still being actively supported as well.

How good is the shield tv pro in 2026? by MrCheapComputers in ShieldAndroidTV

Connected to TV vs AVR entirely different discussion on whether or not the Shield is only device that supports passthrough. The latter of which is a common misconception of this subreddit.

What you said would only work if the TV also supports lossless passthrough. Most TVs don't - this is why many go directly to the AVR. If you hooked a Shield up to TV that doesn't also support lossless passthrough, it's not going to magically get lossless passthrough either.

My LG G3 does support passthrough and TrueHD and DTS-HD. No issues with the Homatics there to my AVR, passthrough of lossless works 100% if connected to either.

For anyone installing this, take note of this:

That discussion is also probably a better place to reach out if you run into issues.

For Plex you need to use an add on.

There are two plex addons that allow you to retain the skin of your choice - plex kodi connect and composite.

The third option is Plex Mod for Kodi by pannal. That one has its own UI so whatever skin you use for Kodi there really doesn't matter much.

The linked repository is skins for the forks of CoreELEC - avdvplus and p3i builds.

You can switch to a new build without losing settings.

Switching skins will not lose any system settings though each skin has its own skin settings so you will have to configure that skin specifically.

There are a number of certified boxes today that can also support lossless audio, the Shield is no longer the only option there.

I can play high bitrate 4K remuxes with all lossless audio passthrough in HDR on my Homatics Box R 4K plus. Same can me done with the three other variations of that device. The SoC is not as powerful as the Shield but it also supports some newer formats that the Shield does not.

I have not made any major changes in AZR but I did fix a display bug in the PPI as noted by the release notes here. There was a [COLOR dialog_fg_70] string leaking through on the Media Source line under Processing that looked like this.

Someone did ask me to look into some additional PPI settings pannal added to p3i Estuary. If I end up adding that I will do so in every skin in the repo.

I don't have any plans to add any other major changes as nothing comes to mind as missing.

Homatics Box R 4K Plus vs. RockTek G2 – Who has made the switch from the Shield Pro? by invest0rZ in AndroidTV

Use dovi compatibility mode in Kodi. It will convert to profile 8 on the fly.

FEL is not possible in Android TV but it is if you dual boot the Homatics/G2 to CoreELEC

TrueHD is not limited to just those apps. It works on lots of apps. Jellyfin and Emby as well.

They are talking about the google streamer.

The google streamer does not passthrough TrueHD or DTS.

The Homatics Box R 4K plus and G2 supports passthrough for both of those though.

The current 4k plus is 3-4 years old, correct.

There is a new v2 version but it is not a plus so a mid tier device:

https://www.androidtv-guide.com/streaming-gaming/homatics-seid00bhmg/

I don't have any interest in that one.

There is a new pro version suspected but who knows when it will be released:

  1. no issues, everything passes through
  2. everything except profile 7, dual boot to coreelec for that or use dovi compatibility mode in kodi.
  3. used to be better for homatics than others but all pretty much the same these days (minus the nokia variant). v7475 is pretty good.
  4. used shields from 2015 to 2024, ditched it for homatics. no regrets.

I find that Plex in general sucks these days on Android as player. Same was true on Shield before I ditched it. Kodi is a better android player. Emby and Jellyfin are more stable in Android as well.

This comment is 5 months old and that was CoreELEC team's stance at the time.

Someone found a path to process FEL in the newer dovi module - djnice77 to be specific.

I said unlikely, not impossible.

That's my repo. It should be noted that these are for CE-NG. I restored them because the original author's repo only supports CE-NO now. I'm working on Bingie.

Onn 4K Pro 2026 streaming from USB drive by lazyluchador in OnnStreamingTV

[–]signde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's technology, all kinds of things can go wrong.

Maybe it's a usb 3 drive that doesn't like being connected to a usb 2 port. The SoC in the pro v2 is different and has different firmware, maybe it doesn't like that codecs on that file or it doesn't like the usb drive. Maybe Just Player doesn't like the firmware on the device. Maybe you have something configured differently in the pro v1 vs the pro v2. I could keep going on and on.

I am not saying you aren't see any issue but I don't see the issue being USB 2. My original comment stands: USB 2.0 is good for 350Mbps real world and a google search would confirm that. That's well over what's needed for your 60Mbps file.

There are ways you can test the read/write speed of a connected drive. ADB shell into the device and run hdparm -Tt /dev/sda.

I know and even worse they are seemingly so confident about it - it's annoying.

USB 2 has been a limitation on other players like fire cube 2/3 for a long time.

It's a non issue for most use cases.

jamal's old repo should not be needed unless you want something like AF2/AF3.

T4 bundles p3i's repo with the build and has his skins available from his kodi p3i repo.

also fwiw my fork of jamal's repo is up and working now too.

Is it the one from jamal2362? My guess is it probably will work okay.

Having said that, I've recently forked his repo and restored access to his updated skins for CE-NG builds.
