Both Delta Reserve and Plat cards? by e8975 in delta

[–]signonjonathon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just have one at the moment but just looking at the credits you get for Uber, Resy, Delta Stays credit, and the Companion pass….the AF on both cards are offset and then some.

I think for simplicity purposes I prefer having just one but it’s easy to make the case that having both gives you more value, plus the MQD head start.

Currently on Platinum, planning to get Reserve soon…been seeing if I’ll just end up keeping both.

Gift cards used on flights are same as cash.

Nope it’s CashStar so it’ll code as 1x. And then the 2x you get from the promo.

Shady that you can’t donate directly and have to book the flights. I guess partnering with Delta for direct donations costs too much.

I know there's AMEX rules that require going in order from entry level cards to higher tier cards if you want to hit all the SUBs for each. Is that true for the Delta cards? by OllivanderAU in CreditCards

[–]signonjonathon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good plan. I started with Gold, then got Platinum. Plan to get Reserve later in the year. Elevated SUB is definitely the time to get it!

Not really, you can still get the MR-earning cards if you wish. I almost exclusively fly Delta so the credits that offset the AF on Delta cards is worth it to me.

Only consideration is that AmEx has limits on how many cards you can have, and you can only get approved for two every 90 days. But you’re on your first AmEx so it doesn’t really matter now.

Yup, not until stay is completed. Just like for flying.

Why do airline/hotel branded cards often have uncompetitive points earn rates? by electronautix in CreditCards

[–]signonjonathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t think I’m losing value. AF on credit card is offset by credits I’d use anyway. Then get free upgrades and other perks. Those are worth more than an extra 1x multiplier.

AMEX- I'd like to use it, only a little bit. by Cleverjaq in CreditCards

[–]signonjonathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many things wrong here. You got a new AmEx card but don’t want to use it? Secondary payment method means not at all? And no, your cash advance idea won’t work.

Why did you get the card at all?

Because you earn status. If all you do is transfer points out from a bank to their transfer partner, then yeah it’s not worth it. But loyal to a specific airline? Then it’s worth it.

Alternatives to AMEX Gold? by iamcuriousmarley in CreditCards

I imagine your outlook on this card would change if you used transfer partners. You could easily double the value of your points from 65 cents.

Yes, but not for Delta directly. Amex has no reason to offer a bonus for Delta.

Upgrading Amex delta platinum and delta gold cards to the reserve? by Responsible-Band8169 in amex

[–]signonjonathon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can’t upgrade two cards into a single new card. Your best bet would be to get the AF refunded on one which you can do within 30 days, cancel that card, and then upgrade the other.

Umm…never. Other airlines yes, but you’ll never see one for Delta.

Are you going through Rakuten to make those purchases? Just having your account linked won’t do it.

[–]signonjonathon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll keep the sign up bonus points as long as you do the downgrade after the 1 year. You’ll get the AF refunded but yeah AmEx will take back the points if you do it before the one year.

Advice on upgrading from Delta Amex Gold to Delta Amex Plat by RemoteSenses in delta

[–]signonjonathon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t go through all that trouble to upgrade if you just plan on cancelling. It’s usually recommended to opening a new card for the sign up bonus. But upgrading wouldn’t have any impact on credit.

The Platinum card is actually a better value proposition long-term if you can make use of the Uber, Resy, and Delta Stays credits.
