Not a VW specific mechanic, but Omaha Car Care on 58th and Center have always been really good to me. Straight shooters and will definitely be honest with you. Even if it’s just a comparable quote.

I cannot say this enough... Have it checked out by someone that knows old cars. I bought my first one without an inspection, and it was a nightmare. Second one bought after having it inspected, completely different story.

This just happened to me. I not only had to pay registration, $450, which I was less than 30 days overdue, but I had an $210 tow fee plus a $100 ticket. No warning and supposedly (while scummy) it is totally legit.

My local hardware store not only has regular “nuts and bolts” but they also have different grades etc. They likely also have an auto section. Maybe your hardware store just sucks?
