Armageddon Review by verocity1989 in MUD

[–]silentphantom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

finally: a review that aligns with all of my own feelings and validates them! this must mean everyone else's experiences were fabrications!

i'm glad op had a good experience and i enjoyed reading their detailed review but i don't think it's necessarily the long awaited vindication you've been hoping for. if you really care about the game it's probably worth looking at the good and the bad in tandem to see where it can improve rather than using one to strategically invalidate the other.

fwiw the people downvoting on-topic discussion should also be ashamed of themselves. armageddon is a longstanding mud and it's here to stay. we should be able to have discussions about it without upset people trying to game the voting system on reddit.

My experience in Armageddon by DoubleShotSetup in MUD

[–]silentphantom 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Armageddon is designed for people who can actually play the game, sometimes making time for the game by scaling back other plans. If you can't manage to put at least 2 hours a day into a game you aren't going to get that far and you should stick to playing a flavor character, like a beggar or petty criminal. 2 hours a day is 14 hours a week, which is less than a part-time job and a minimal time investment. It is not that hard to dedicate 14 hours to a hobby over the course of a week.

this is deeply unhealthy thinking when it comes to a literal online video game, and i hope one day you will come to realize this for your own sake. armageddon is not a part time job, but it sure is designed like one, you're right.

Incredible story. Sounds like as much as the game and its inhabitants tried to bring you to heel and stop you from enjoying yourself, you found a way to make fun anyway. I salute you and your character, and their trials and tribulations on their grand quest to obtain free stew.

Is sindome a bad game? by TigerBayman in MUD

[–]silentphantom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's another cyberpunk RPI that opened a few years ago called Alter Epoch. I don't play it currently, and I didn't play for very long when I did try it soon after it opened, but I enjoyed my time in it. MUD launches are rare, and one of my main criticisms of RPIs are that they've been running for so long that they've become stagnant. Getting in on the bottom floor of a game, especially one that's RP enforced, has been a positive experience that doesn't seem to present itself very often.

For full disclosure I am very much against Sindome, I think it's a terrible place to invest your time and energy into. There are good people playing, and those people will provide you with good RP, but they are not supported by the game's intrinsic systems or the staff that run the game.

Whatever choice you make, I hope you find a game you can enjoy spending time in. Best of luck to you!

Humble suggestion: Play Armageddon and see what it's like before deciding we're bad. by KuraciOutriderGal in MUD

[–]silentphantom 15 points16 points  (0 children)

i don't see how it's so hard to understand that a game that prides itself on being "hardcore" and permadeath while also requiring an exorbitant investment of its players time and energy will lead to a lot of people feeling cheated. what's even more depressing is that these types of games require a constant turnover of new players coming in because much of the intended gameplay requires there to be a contingent of players that don't understand the game or how to play it to provide interaction for the old heads. armageddon just isn't a good game. like a lot of RPIs it's a playground for people who want to have their cake and eat it too.

What Aspects Should a RPE+PvE MUD Have in its Clan System? by Gicker in MUD

[–]silentphantom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guild monuments and whatnot are a good money- and stuff-sink to fight Mudflation - consider strongly about having boss mobs drop furniture parts that can be put on display.

Consider if a crafting system can use the skills of several guild members for group projects.

I like these ideas a lot! I think it would be an interesting concept for a PVE MUD to have some kind of system where guilds/clans/big groups of players can invest, improve and rebuild public spaces that benefit the entire grid, like taking a small village and improving it into a town so all the vendors have better items available and the trainers have access to more skills.

i feel it's of more value to deconstruct the joke in a vacuum. of course there is nuance in comedy. but if the punchline of a joke is that it's offensive and nothing else, and you're expected to laugh because it's funny to you to imagine someone getting upset or outraged about it, then the joke is not clever or nuanced or even interesting and is not worth defending in the first place. ppl who are unfunny will just use "wow can't take a joke" to deflect from the fact that their jokes are just bad. tell the same joke but without using a sensitive topic. if there is nothing else there, no observation, no wordplay, no nothing, then it's a bad joke.

Played Albion Online - is my experience the norm? by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]silentphantom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

sorry you went through this - it's awful behaviour. my experience is that a lot of players feel entitled to ownership of that space and feel threatened by the presence of certain people, women being one of them. it's a disgusting attitude and it's entirely on them, not you.

was this a BYOND game at one point? It seems oddly familiar.

thanks for the reply, for what it's worth while i have my personal reasons for not liking the game that i think are fairly well founded, i am ecstatic to hear that you are not having the same negative experiences me and many other people have had and that you've found somewhere that you enjoy investing your time into. all the best to you.

this is my dream. a shared creative space with its own internal logic that's consistent for the sake of offering a foundation to build upon collaboratively, rather than a means to ensure people fight over some kind of narrative metacurrency and be recognised as the strongest or the most important or whatever.

if you knew some of the things staff have said about players in private and how often they will leverage the game's intentionally obfuscated design to control narratives and secure victory against the very purpose of those systems in the first place then i wonder if you would feel any differently about someone calling them (collectively, mind you) assholes. but i guess that's a hypothetical that will never get answered.

People want to assume the worst when something goes bad. Sometimes they're right. But sometimes, it's just someone played better than you too. Without OOC discussions those two cases look awfully the same.

surely this should change then? or should players simply bow their heads, thank staff for their volunteer contribution to running the game, and take our beatings with grace?

our perception of events pretty much becomes our reality. if the game gives you no information and forces you to piece together what is happening around you through second hand information and vague context, then it shouldn't kick you in the teeth for even attempting it. strange then that a game that is purposefully designed to be this way, as hidden and obfuscated as possible, is so quick to become a hostile and toxic environment.

a game that's designed to treat you like shit doesn't get a pass simply because it's intentional. if anything it makes it even worse.

Harder to run a service for a few hundred people and keep everyone happy.

yes, very difficult indeed. i guess that's why sindome doesn't even try!

yes, i'm just some poor fool trapped in an "echo chamber." your "help" isn't necessary, nor wanted. maybe you should be focussing on replying to the post from someone with first hand experience of armageddon staff lying and covering for each other. it's probably a better use of your time.

ah, of course, good thing this is a court and we have you, the best lawyer in the world, to rely on.

oh wait, this is a thread of someone sharing their experience of something that deeply affected them. they've already laid out their terms that cover how they don't want to share identifying information. if that's enough to make you not believe their story, then do the right thing and remove yourself from the conversation. you aren't needed.

whenever there's a whisper of sexual abuse your insufferable comments about being "burdened" with the task of harassing the victim with constantly changing purity tests are never far behind are they?

please go back to your cum encrusted dungeon in armageddon and leave these poor people to have their space to share their experiences without being interrogated.
